Game Chat – Footscray v Geelong

Written by Thommo on July 6 2019

Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Saturday July 6, 7:25pm AEST

What it means for the Western Bulldogs: The Bulldogs continue to hang around the finals conversation through a 6-8 win-loss record, but there is no margin for error. They face first-placed Geelong on the back of a strong fortnight.

What it means for Geelong: Maintain breathing space at the top. The Cats have a two-game gap ahead of last season’s Grand Finalists Collingwood and West Coast, and could be a couple of wins from being able to manage their run home without ladder pressure.

The stat: Geelong’s dominance over the Western Bulldogs stretches back more than a decade, winning 16 of the past 18 games, including two finals.

The match-up: Josh Schache v Harry Taylor

An in-form Schache (ranked 463rd in the Official AFL Player Ratings) has returned to the Western Bulldogs senior side with gusto in the past fortnight, kicking six goals. The 21-year-old is likely to face experienced Geelong defender Harry Taylor (211th), a man who has rarely been beaten in a 251-game career.

It’s a big week for: Aaron Naughton

The Bulldogs forward hasn’t kicked a goal in the past two games and no more than one in a game since round eight. It’s a tough position to play for a developing 19-year-old, but Naughton needs to find a way to impact the scoreboard against the best defence in the competition.

Thommo’s Tip: Geelong by 6 points.

  2. If you have two outs from the midfield, would having 2 emergencies on the midfield bench mean both will cover? Or will I only get the lower scoring one?

      1. Damn, thought it would’ve only been the lower emergency (like in NRL).

In hindsight would’ve been great as I would’ve got Rowbottom…

        Cheers, we live and learn!

          1. People copy teams from Facebook and Twitter? I’m not on social media either, so this is the first I’m hearing of it.

PEOPLE OF TWITTER & FACEBOOK-LAND: Copy teams from this site instead! The people here actually know what we’re doing (well, most of the time 😉 ).

            1. Twitter is great for new NEWS, ie the latest is posted so fast, ALL the time. EG today, Preuss being pulled from the Casey side was on twitter before the real world knew. But little else.
There are some great stats on there too and well, it can be fun.
But like you say, for advice, SCT is EVERYTHING.
              That is all.

              1. Indeed. I often search Twitter if I want real-time information on that kind of thing (you don’t need an account to do that).

    1. Clark, no e, has been mooted for more MID minutes for a couple of weeks now. If you still have him, play him above most rookies … should be good for 75 min. Every week. What did he get today?!

      1. 86 I see. There were a couple of us who said it on here a couple of weeks ago. It’s worth reading all threads on SCT. As Salamander said above, best info is consistently on here.
Read his weekly Scoring Anomalies and Rare Gems pieces every Thursday by way of example. Invaluable!
