Game Chat – Geelong vs Brisbane

Written by Thommo on July 28 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: GMHBA Stadium, Saturday, July 28, 2.10PM AEST

SUMMARY
As Brisbane makes the trip down to the Cattery, the players will be asking, ‘Why not?’ Knocking off Hawthorn in Launceston a fortnight ago and almost doing the same last week to Adelaide, the Lions will be out to cause more chaos to a club’s top-eight hopes. Geelong needs to bank the four points if it is to play in September and then worry about building percentage. Last week’s two-point win over Melbourne cost the Cats 1.3 per cent, and saw them falling out of the eight after Hawthorn belted Carlton and gained 5 per cent. When the game was on the line last week, veteran Gary Ablett exploded with 14 final term disposals, joined by Tom Hawkins celebrating his 30th birthday. The Lions will be relying on their younger talent to upset the Cats for the first time at home in 15 years. NAB AFL Rising Star candidate Alex Witherden, first-round pick Hugh McCluggage and young stopper Nick Robertson have impressed in recent weeks.

  2. For those interested, Danger has been moved to full forward again in the second term … hope its not permanent … no hard tag on him anywhere … and lions taking it to them.

Haven’t really been able to watch a lot of games, but Danger is not playing like himself from last year for sure … not as hard at the ball, and not sure why all this time forward?? He’s dropped a few marks and hanging outside of a lot of contested chances … really doesn’t seem himself in this game, or others this year for that matter … would really love to know what is happening with him and at the club … just doesn’t seem ‘right’

    1. He and Dusty this year seem off their norm for sure. I’m really starting to wonder if they are being ‘managed’ or something (with no injury concerns, just keeping them ‘fresh’ and building the teams role players and allowing them to breathe a bit). And as the finals hit they’ll just be let loose. I mean, watching them they seem to be going at 50% compared to last year. Wouldn’t surprise me much to see them both go absolute beast mode in the real AFL finals.

  4. Danger starting the third quarter back in the centre bounce … fingers crossed he stays there for the rest of the match! (yes, I have the VC on him and would somehow love him to get to 140!!)

    1. sorry mate … didn’t watch … but he ended up on 26 … not many in last quarter. He had 2 marks and 1 tackle at HT I think and finished on the same … he’s not 100% this year … his efforts aren’t there …
