Game Chat – Gold Coast v North Melbourne

Written by Motts on June 8 2019

Where and when: Metricon Stadium, Saturday June 8, 4.35pm AEST

What it means for Gold Coast: After losing to premiership fancies Greater Western Sydney and Geelong in the past fortnight, it’s the first genuine chance for a few weeks to break a seven-game losing streak. A win would reinvigorate the Suns as the second half of the season begins.

What it means for North Melbourne: Another chance to solidify the Rhyce Shaw regime. After taking over from Brad Scott as coach last week, Shaw got off to the best possible start with a physical, high-pressure demolition of Richmond.

The stat: Historically, Gold Coast has done as well against North Melbourne as it has against any other opponent. The Suns have won five from 11 matches (a winning percentage of 45), which is identical to their record against Carlton. They are 3-3 at Metricon Stadium.

The match-up: David Swallow v Ben Cunnington

Two of the hardest men in the AFL should square off in the midfield. Cunnington is ranked second in the competition for both total clearances and centre clearances and although Swallow might not always be his direct opponent, the influence of both around the stoppages will go a long way towards determining the result.

It’s a big week for: Jack Ziebell

Big milestone for the Kangaroos skipper this week as he chalks up game number 200. Ziebell has shifted from the forward line back into the midfield in recent weeks and was excellent in the win over the Tigers. He has lost in games number 50, 100 and 150.

Big call: Gold Coast snaffles it at the death

Mottsy’s Tip: Suns by 5

  2. I think i am going to go for it and bring in Macpherson. 5 round average of 100 and being playing a lot more midfield time. Named to start on ball unlike fwd pocket. Massive risk to back him, but i think it is worth a shot. Try something different, could make this an incredible season

  3. Unfortunately I overlooked Danger and Cripps for the VC, have got it on Cunnington.

Brought him in this week, let’s see what he can do.

  4. Wouldn’t surprise me with this round of shock performer rookies that burgess my worst rookie will top score with a 70+ replacing Clark or answorth for points this week.

  5. Macpherson has started well in finding the ball but 37% DE has hurt the score. If he can keep these types of quarters up with efficient ball use, he’d be a ripper

  6. Burgess doing a number on Ben Brown lol. 7 goals for the Roos, but none from Brown.

  8. And I called it. Burgess nearly at the combined score of answorth and Clark combined and it’s only halftime. Sigh

    1. when he 1st went back into the guts he was 420 k ,
i saw it but didn’t trust scott would keep him there , spewn ,
probably missed the boat after this week ,
although will probably still make an acceptable POD

    2. I was considering him or MacPherson, but i just couldn’t trust Ziebell due to him playing so many different roles. Just 2 weeks ago he was playing as a deep forward. I was thinking Shaw might keep him in the mid, but 1 game wasn’t enough for me to back him in.

  10. Accidentally put c on O Baker instead of stocker as wanted to take vc of Danger.
In bye round if I place Bines on field with C will I still get O’Brien’s score as E

    1. yes
if obrien has the E on him & you leave him on the bench
& they both are 2 of your 3 rucks on the ruck line ,
then you can put bines on field with the C & the E on obrien & get obriens pts
no good if obrien is in the fwd line though

        1. Thanks Pj
Unfortunately don’t have Gawn so O’Brien is my 2nd ruck after trading out Goldstein earlier in year to captilise in other positions

  12. I’ll take that score of about 85 for Macpherson due to his 57% DE. Not his best of scores but just being more accurate would have changed a lot to his score.
