Game Chat – Hawthorn v Fremantle

Written by Motts on July 13 2019

Where and when: University of Tasmania Stadium, Saturday 13 July, 2.10pm AEST

What it means for Hawthorn: The Hawks need to be near-perfect to keep their slim finals hopes alive, but September footy will still be on the agenda for Alastair Clarkson. Victory in Launceston will keep the momentum going.

What it means for Fremantle: The season is quickly slipping away from the Dockers. Injuries are compounding lamentable losses and finals suddenly look a distant prospect. They need a win on the road to settle the nerves.

The stat: Fremantle has a dismal record in Launceston, winning just one of its 11 games at the venue. That win came in the famous ‘siren-gate’ victory over St Kilda back in 2006.

The match-up: Dan Howe v Nat Fyfe

Stopping the inspirational Fremantle captain could be key to Hawthorn’s hopes of securing victory in Launceston. Howe has done a good job on a number of talented opposition midfielders recently, limiting Scott Pendlebury’s influence on Friday night. Expect him to go to Fyfe this weekend.

It’s a big week for: Mitch Lewis (Hawthorn)

The young Hawthorn forward enjoyed a breakout performance last week, with his contested marking and ability to hit the scoreboard a highlight of his display. He’ll now be looking to add consistency to his game and has a great opportunity to do that on Saturday.

Big call: Breust recaptures his best form, kicks five in a cruising Hawks win.

Mottsy’s Tip: Hawthorn by 30 points

    1. Hope you’re right, but we hate Tassie. Shits me that we have to go there every year. It’s an hour flight from Melbourne. Sent Collingwood down there!
Oh, I forgot, the draw is about $$$$ not fairness. Rant over!

Hawks are my tip in the AFL Gauntlet this week, I’m down to the final 480.

the pies winning last night knocked out another 40.

  1. Commentators on the radio are saying someone ‘kinda chicken winged’ Fyfe and he is now off the ground.

  4. I didn’t do this on purpose, put the E on Sicily and was going to captain Gardner to take Grundy VC score. Now going to give captain loop hole elsewhere and field answerth

  5. Lobb was on 83. Gets contested mark and a goal. Goes up to 85. How? Sicily average but took marks from opposition kicks when game was on the line and barely scores for it
