Game Chat – Hawthorn vs Brisbane

Written by Thommo on May 13 2017

Venue: University of Tasmania Stadium, Launceston at 1:45pm AEST

LAST FIVE TIMES

R10, 2016, Hawthorn 21.9 (135) d Brisbane Lions 13.9 (87) at the Gabba
R22, 2015, Hawthorn 21.8 (134) d Brisbane Lions 9.8 (62) at University of Tasmania Stadium
R1, 2014, Hawthorn 21.13 (139) d Brisbane Lions 13.13 (91) at University of Tasmania Stadium
R14, 2013, Hawthorn 21.17 (143) d Brisbane Lions 12.13 (85) at University of Tasmania Stadium
R12, 2012, Hawthorn 19.21 (135) d Brisbane Lions 11.4 (70) at the MCG

Game notes: Add the Lions to the list of teams itching to have a crack at the Hawks after years of being lorded over by the men in brown and gold. Lions coach Chris Fagan will have a plan to beat Hawthorn after nearly a decade there as a key football staffer, but the question is whether he has the personnel to execute it, and the signs are emerging that Brisbane is starting to flag after a bright start to the season. If the Hawks of last week turn up then they should get their third win of the year, but we thought that a fortnight ago and they were walloped by the Saints. In 2017 it is all in the head for Hawthorn.

Thommo’s Tip: Hawthorn by 24 points.

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  1. Wasn’t going to get Berry, but just noticed he is listed as a follower. Thoughts?

    T/U – yup he’s a shoo in
    T/D – tread with caution

    1. Ranked 2nd at Brisbane for Centre Bounce Attendances and is averaging 5.5 tackles since Round 6. 12 contested possessions from 27 disposals in the past fortnight.

    2. I brought Berry in this week. He seems highly rated, is finding his feet at this level and seems to have good JS especially with injuries at Brisbane.

    1. Bloody hell… I’ve got Mitchell as my captain in Fantasy and RDT! Since when did coaches from the Clarkson school run hard tags? I thought they all did 18-man zones? Oh well, at least my SuperCoach score isn’t screwed…

      1. I’ve just remembered that Bolton often uses Ed Curnow as a tagger. But he’s the exception, not the rule.

    1. I have him on the bench with the (E) too, but loopholing with Newman. Watch Horse do Horse things and bring Newman in as a late change.

35 at quarter time, won’t kick 4 goals but would love an 80+

  2. Thommo is it too much to think of two wins in a row this season?
Barracking for the Hawks and Berry and Barrett.
