Game Chat – Hawthorn vs Geelong

Written by Thommo on August 11 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: MCG Saturday, August 11, 1.45pm AEST

So much is at stake when two of the competition’s greatest rivals meet for the second time this year. The winner will all but certainly qualify for the finals, while the loser faces a real fight to make it in September. The Hawks have found some form and are looking at four straight wins for the first time since late 2016, while the Cats have only lost twice in a row on one occasion this year, and they come into the game only an errant Gary Ablett shot for goal from knocking over Richmond. Two fine midfields go head to head this week and both clubs can score, so it might come down to the depth players from both sides. Who can make a name for themselves on such a big stage?

R4, 2018, Hawthorn 17.16 (118) d Geelong Cats 18.9 (117) at the MCG
R17, 2017, Geelong Cats 13.10 (88) d Hawthorn 12.13 (85) at the MCG
R4, 2017, Geelong Cats 20.14 (134) d Hawthorn 6.12 (48) at the MCG
2QF, 2016, Geelong Cats 12.13 (85) d Hawthorn 12.11 (83) at the MCG
R1, 2016, Geelong Cats 18.8 (116) d Hawthorn 12.14 (86) at the MCG

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

        1. Think I’ve worked out my titch curse! The only times I’ve chosen him he’s been tagged and had his worse scores 🙁

          1. I went with him over Danger as well. Knowing Danger has been scoring badly in 2nd half, and Titch already started working through the tag, I am not yet panicked. Check back later for that though!

  2. cant touch Ablett today , he’s making the umps look ordinary with all his frees for diving , throw in a couple of zones & a netball bib n he could play another 10 years ..

  3. I know it’s not related to this game but just looking for some quick input / advice.
My wife has Howe and one trade remaining – she’ll cop a donut if he’s likely to be back next week but Lachlan Murphy doesn’t make for good cover.

T/U – trade Howe out now, he won’t be back next week
T/D – keep that last trade, Howe will be back next week.

    1. no point finishing the season with 1 trade left ,
if you have 20k & can switch someone into the backline ,
I’d take the Bont for Howe , has a soft run home except for the tigers in the GF but may still score well in that game if the tigers rest players or he’s on & will outscore Howe easily from here ..
