Game Chat – Hawthorn vs Gold Coast

Written by Thommo on September 20 2020

Where and When: Adelaide Oval, Saturday 20 September 2020 at 1:05pm AEST

Last time they met: Rd 22, 2019, Hawthorn 18.10 (118) def Gold Coast 7.6 (48) at Marvel Stadium

Match Preview: The Hawks and Suns are out of contention for finals so there is little left to play for today but pride. The Hawks have shown little more than glimpses of form in recent weeks but they are bidding farewell to premiership stars Puopolo and Captain Pinchy, Ben Stratton, so surely they can find another level today.

The Suns may not have retiring stars but they will certainly be looking to finish the season well. You just know Stewy Dew will want to finish on a high with the plan to bring winning form into 2021. At their best, the Suns really should have Hawthorn’s measure.

Supercoach Watch: Hawthorn – Tom Mitchell is in many sides but that is really the only Hawk you want in your side. I pity you if you picked up Wingard.

Gold Coast – Greenwood is the most popular Sun while a few teams still have Luokosius. This is not really a hugely SC relevant match!

Thommo Watch: Tom Mitchell is my only SC player today.

Thommo’s Tip: Hawks by 12 points.

  1. Don’t think I’ve seen a list of such ugly scores this late in a season:
    CRipps 26
    Haynes 34
    Williams 66
    Ridley 64
    Riccardi 76
    Smith 84 …

pretty ordinary scoring in a final round.

    1. Unless they can land real stars at the trade table (ie: not Wingard) it’s time for the Hawks to draft players. No more paying overs for spuds or B graders.

        1. Nah, we need to go for a top midfielder or tall forward or nothing. Williams is a good player but not good enough to trade in during a rebuild.

          1. Yeah, I’ve heard that Carlton may target him in the off-season, which I think will be a mistake as we’ve already brought in a lot of ‘B’ grade players from other teams (including several from GWS).
