Game Chat – Hawthorn vs Gold Coast

Written by Thommo on June 10 2017

Venue: MCG at 1:45pm AEST

LAST FIVE MEETINGS
R3, 2017, Gold Coast 21.13 (139) d Hawthorn 7.11 (53) at Metricon Stadium
R14, 2016, Hawthorn 12.14 (86) d Gold Coast 8.12 (60) at University of Tasmania Stadium
R9, 2015, Hawthorn 14.9 (93) d Gold Coast 6.4 (40) at University of Tasmania Stadium
R15, 2014, Hawthorn 17.14 (116) d Gold Coast 10.3 (63) at University of Tasmania Stadium
R4, 2014, Hawthorn 23.10 (148) d Gold Coast 7.7 (49) at Metricon Stadium

Game notes: Quirk No.1: These two sides are playing each other for the second time in nine weeks. Quirk No.2: Despite belting the Hawks by 86 points when they played in round three, the Suns somehow find themselves underdogs to win the return bout. They have the forward weaponry to challenge the undermanned and undersized Hawk back-line, but can they bring the heat on the road? The Hawks are nothing if not proud and after their embarrassing 0.3 first half against Port last week, they turned things around and played a decent enough second half. Having a nine-day break between games should freshen them up nicely and they’ll relish their first home game at the MCG in seven weeks. Provided Gary Ablett and Tom Lynch don’t get off the leash too much, the Hawks should be able to squeeze out the win.

Thommo’s Tip: Gold Coast by 18 points

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  1. I posted this in last minute queries but thought her might be a better place. Should my third trade be a straight swap of Rough to Lynch GCS?

    Up – go for it!
Dn – save the trade and get Buddy/Green later in the season

  2. Still unsure on what to do with Sandi. Thinking of trading him out for Tom Lynch and putting Nankervis in the ruck:

    TU- Do it
TD- Don’t do it and save the trade

    1. Don’t hold him mate. Learn from history. When things start going wrong with him ,it lingers. He’ll miss few more down the track. Only Keep him if you have very little trades left. I traded him out this week.

  3. Looks like its going to be a big one for Ablett. And He is not tagged, I should have put the VC on him. Hindsight…..

  4. Sandi to kreuz or Ryder.
Don’t really want to but only got 18 players and have to count steeled below par 50.
Predicted to loose by 40 so extra points could be very handy. ( opposition player has 20)
Or I could wait see how weekend goes and trade goldy to grundy Monday morning if I’m still a chance

  8. Whilst Cousins was underwhelming on debut his score probably won’t count for me. Lynch on debut you beauty, Witts keeps on being the best value starting pick of the season and Swallow started to show some promise.
