Game Chat – Melbourne v Fremantle

Written by Thommo on April 15 2017

Venue: MCG at 1:45pm AEST

PAST FIVE TIMES
R16, 2016, Melbourne 12.15 (87) d Fremantle 8.7 (55) at TIO Stadium
R22, 2015, Fremantle 17.6 (108) d Melbourne 8.6 (54) at Domain Stadium
R5, 2015, Fremantle 18.10 (118) d Melbourne 6.14 (50) at the MCG
R16, 2014, Fremantle 15.7 (97) d Melbourne 4.10 (34) at TIO Stadium
R21, 2013, Fremantle 20.13 (133) d Melbourne 5.8 (38) at the MCG

Game notes: Melbourne would be steaming after failing to clinch victory due to a wasteful display in front of goal against Geelong last week. Inaccuracy cost the Demons dearly and they will be looking to rectify that against the Dockers. Melbourne will also be without Max Gawn, with the big ruckman to miss up to three months following hamstring surgery. The ruck task will be made more difficult for likely call-up Jake Spencer, with leading Dockers big man Aaron Sandilands peering at him across the other side of the centre circle. The Dockers caused an early contender for upset of the season last weekend, after Ross Lyon’s youthful team defeated last year’s premiers the Western Bulldogs. Lyon decided to play the kids, and the new approach breathed fresh life into a previously winless side. The Dockers will try to take a similar emboldened mindset into the game against the Demons.

Thommo’s Tip: Melbourne by 30 points.

    1. Got a fiver on them 1-24… I think FURL is nothing if not consistent, whether it be horrible or good…

  1. I chickened out bringing in big Jake Spencer for my team, so get ready for a big game from him! He’ll be up for the Sandi challenge.

    Go Dees!

  6. This quarter is Fremantle circa 2013.

Just lock that ball in until they score a goal.

    Great to watch again.

  7. Go Freo!

Finally dropped a few big blokes and playing the kids.

We actually look like we have good leg speed these last 2 weeks.

Hope we can keep up the pressure and get another win.

  11. Cam McCarthy… First people start him. Then he screws them over by not scoring anything. So they trade him out. And then he goes and scores 100+!

As a non-owner I find all of this to be more amusing than anything else, but I suspect a lot of people are going to be rather cross right now.

      1. Our FURL ……

        Where do I start?

Once a there was a midfielder called M Barlow.

He was a Beast and scored well for all his owners.

Ross sends him forward. He hardly touches it.

        Many Supercoaches …..in a collective voice……….. Scream..

        F**K you Ross Lyon.

This is but one of the stories of The Book Of FURL.

    1. To be fair No Gawn, Lewis or Hogan. 3 top players, taking nothing away from Freo they played fantastic. But any team would find it hard without that quality.

  12. More thoughs:

    – Balic will be in my side next week.
    – Alex Neale-Bulen and Clayton Oliver look they’re the real deal – well done to anybody who started either of them.
    – Jake Spencer looks like a great budget ruck option for the next few months. I’m very happy with my SandiWitts setup, but for anyone still looking for a Gawn replacement for the next few months, he could be a great choice.

    1. We will have a better idea of his scoring potential after next weeks game, If he scores another 100, I for one will be seriously thinking about bringing him into my side
