Game Chat – North Melbourne v Brisbane Lions

Written by Father Dougal on June 3 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: Etihad Stadium, Sunday, June 3, 1.10pm (AEST)

North Melbourne is making believers of everyone. The Roos added to their comeback story in the west last week, taking down Fremantle by 28 points to move into fifth place on the ladder. They have a tough, suddenly deep midfield, the AFL’s leading goalkicker in Ben Brown, and have conceded the fewest points of any team. Next up is a Lions side that has proven competitive most weeks, but has only one win from 10 to show for it. Making life even more difficult for Brisbane is that it has lost six of its past seven matches at Etihad Stadium. Star midfielders Dayne Zorko and Dayne Beams will have to fire again, while the battle between Harris Andrews – fresh from breaking the League’s single-game spoils record – and Brown will be a fascinating one. Tom Cutler has brilliantly fed the Lions inside 50 this year, and needs to maintain that form against a stingy North backline.

R23, 2017: North Melbourne 19.16 (130) d Brisbane Lions 11.13 (79) at the Gabba
R2, 2016: North Melbourne 17.15 (117) d Brisbane Lions 11.17 (83) at the Gabba
R17, 2015: North Melbourne 16.14 (110) d Brisbane Lions 5.8 (38) at the Gabba
R2, 2015: North Melbourne 20.13 (133) d Brisbane Lions 7.9 (51) at Etihad Stadium
R15, 2014: Brisbane Lions 10.10 (70) d North Melbourne 9.12 (66) at the Gabba

Father Dougal’s Tip: Hard not to pick North against any team now, definately have to take them v the Lions. Roos by 20

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

    1. Damn! Waites a goal kicker of mine in this super weird draft league I’m in. Thank god for Hogan (5) and JJK (6) this week!

  2. Christensen is out for the day after failing a concussion test. I thought my week couldn’t go any worse then this happened and he will score 0.

I really wonder if I will reach 2000 this week

  3. Hey Catta! We’re up against each other again in the Contribs league mate! Another classic match up, Nic Nat V Grundy, Walters V Crouch and Doedee V Murphy – I reckon you are ahead in those match ups and you have Nic’s score on the board! …Kicking myself for not playing Gruelfi and actually also for not holding Kelly and trading Macdonald in in Def instead (which I was going to do as my opp in the SC Cup had Macdonald … just figured he wouldn’t score so large *sigh*)

Good luck mate, I think you get your revenge in this one!!

    1. Hey Macca,

It’s loooking like a classic clash

Got one eye on SC & one eye on my son kicking his 3rd goal from the wing for the afternoon!

Good luck Macca, but it would be remiss if me to not hope for a 1-1 record v you in 2018 😉

  5. Gee Ahern is impressive, interesting to see how he backs it up v Geelong next week at the Cattery

If he goes well again, perfect downgrade option after his bye if picked for his bubble game.

  6. Mitch Robinson what a champion, carried a calf knock in Q2 to finish the game at 85. Placed on report but happy with effort.

      1. Miss him over at Carlton for sure. Like Betts, knew they were both going to continue to have excellent careers after leaving the Blues.
