Game Chat – North Melbourne v Sydney

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on March 9 2020

Where and when: Kingston Twins Oval, Monday 9 March, 1.40pm AEDT

Watchlist:

Aiden BONAR (NTH) MID/FWD @ $202,800

“Okay” is about as generous as we can be in assessing Bonar’s performance in Marsh One. Moved well but his score was inflated by a couple of back-and-forth pieces of play. An improvement on that today will see him re-enter into calculations.

Tristan XERRI (NTH) RUC/FWD @ $123,900

The surprise packet of North’s Marsh One game. Put up 98 SC, managed 24 hit-outs, slotted a couple of goals and got a good flow going combining with Goldy.

Jordan DAWSON (SYD) DEF/FWD @ $467,800

Was all over it last week, but that best on ground performance came with the huge caveat of Lloyd being absent. Hopefully today settles whether we’re starting one, none or both of the Sydney’s half backs.

Dylan STEPHENS (SYD) MID @ $189,300

Didn’t seem to find his footing in Marsh One and looked rather underwhelming considering his price tag and draft position. Perhaps he asserts himself in a more settled line-up today?

Isaac HEENEY (SYD) FWD/MID $510,700

Been under the cloud of a thumb injury and the prospect of being slated up FWD until Buddy gets back. Can put those doubts to bed this afternoon.

Notable Absentees: Will GOULD (SYD), Buddy FRANKLIN (SYD).

  1. Need a good game from Xerri. Bonar, Heeney Dawson all on watch list.

No Gould will hurt a lot of people.

  2. Spot on GD, can Lloyd and Dawson co-exist and be successful points wise that’s the big question today. And if any rookies decide to stand up well that would be appreciated!!

  3. I had my write up for James Rowbottom for my Twitter series Under the Radar written last night, and I posted it today when he’s on 42 at QTR time. Now I just look like the biggest bandwagon fan in the world :'(

  4. I am working so I can’t set eyes on my boy, Naismith.

Can anyone tell me how he looks up against Goldy?

    1. He’s going well, in the contest all around the ground. Holding his own for sure, with Sinclair sitting at Full Forward so far.

    2. yep. better around the ground than last week, but even Xerri beat him to the tap 3 out of 4. Scoring well though and has won 17/41 HOs.
Sinclair has given him very little chop out which is a good sign.

    1. Hes tempting me alot, 250k price tag, out tapped sauce last week and got 79 off 55% tog, going toe to toe with goldy right now. Showing more than English that he can stack up against the best.

  6. Papley doing the strut. Is that gonna be a thing in 2020? looked great in the SOO game too. Full of confidence …

    1. Love the Pappers strut. He’s like a school kid every time he kicks a goal. Great to watch.

  8. Rowbottom looks alright but he’s awkwardly priced for supercoach. and the upside ain’t big enough.

Good to see a kid earning his chops though.

From a Sydney SC perspective, basically Naismith did ok, better for the run still lineball between him, Jacobs and Fort, Stephens wasn’t too bad but better options out there.

Don’t write off Josh as past it just yet… but otherwise it was meh.

Taylor, Xerri and Mahoney are the takeaways from this game.
