Game Chat – North Melbourne vs Gold Coast

Written by Father Dougal on April 29 2017

Venue: Etihad Stadium, Saturday, April 29, 7.25pm AEST

Last Time They Met: R5, 2016, North Melbourne 18.11 (119) d Gold Coast 11.15 (81) at Metricon Stadium
R14, 2015, Gold Coast 19.11 (125) d North Melbourne 10.10 (70) at Metricon Stadium

Game notes: North Melbourne could quite easily be 3-2 and sitting inside the top eight, if not for its inability to close out matches against Geelong, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle. The Roos are instead 0-5 and simply must beat Gold Coast, which returned to earth with a thud in a heavy loss to competition pacesetter Adelaide. The Robbie Tarrant-Tom Lynch showdown could go a long way to deciding the contest, with the young Suns focal point booting four goals in the corresponding clash last year. North Melbourne will need savvy on-baller Ben Cunnington to maintain his red-hot form to help win the midfield battle.

    1. hey champ … what site do you get these words from? Last year I used the AFL site and team lists and there used to be a thread like “Satuday teams” etc that got updated each match, with words exactly like above … can’t see it anymore??

      1. He’s deliberately doing this to punish us all for not picking him. He’ll probably go and play 22 games, too.

  2. I remember the last time a player was on 115 sc with 25odd possies at half time….

We were 2 points down and that player went on to get 229sc and 48 possies….

  6. It hurts knowing that Peter Wright could have been a Carlton player if we hadn’t traded our first round pick in 2014. Still, at least Jaksch and Whiley are working out well for us…

  7. i actually think this is going to be my worst week ever…….. JOM 39, Newman 59, Beams 66, Stef Martin 68, Housten 51 just to name a few! im about 900 from 11! Well ill come back next year. Was ranked 2800th before the round. Not anymore!

    1. That’s some bad luck there. Did he VC GAJ or actually put the C on him? I can understand putting the VC on GAJ vs NM….

    1. Witts.

      1. a starchy plant tuber which is one of the most important food crops, cooked and eaten as a vegetable.

  9. Double ton for Ablett 24 mins into the last quarter.

Tonight’s performance by Ablett perfectly epitomises Cher’s classic “If I could turn back time”.

“If I could turn back time
If I could find a way
I’d take back those words that’ll hurt you and you’d stay
I don’t know why I did the things I did
I don’t know why I said the things I said
Love’s like a knife it can cut deep inside
Words are like weapons, they wound sometimes
I didn’t really mean to hurt you
I didn’t want to see you go
I know I made you cry, but baby
If I could turn back time
If I could find a way
I’d take back those words that’d hurt you
    And you’d stay
If I could reach the stars
I’d give ’em all to you
Then you’d love me, love me, like you used to do
If I could turn back time”

The Ablett of old has returned and has skyrocketed back to supreme relevancy.

      1. He’s going to be one of the hardest ones to decide on, too. Super risky, but with tremendous upside if he can stay on the park.
