Game Chat – North Melbourne vs GWS

Written by Thommo on June 13 2021

Where and when: Blundstone Arena, Sunday 13 June at 3:20pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 2, 2020:  North Melbourne 12.8 (80) def GWS 8.12 (60) at Giants Stadium.

H2H Last 5: GWS 3 – North 2

Match Preview: North have improved in recent weeks and, fresh from their bye, they return to their southern fortress in Hobart where they could upset GWS. Also coming off a bye, the Giants need to comfortably defeat teams like North if they are to be any chance of featuring in finals but they have proven they can often lose the unlosable.

The Giants should win this easily but a gnawing doubt in my mind says that North may challenge them. Will GWS stand up in icy Hobart or fold like a cheap deck chair at a weight loss retreat?

Thommo Watch:

North:
In the forward line raffle, I made the very nervous decision to try my luck with Aaron Hall this week. I cringe every time I look at my forward line!

GWS:

I am the proud owner of ZERO Giants. For those Supercoaches with Stockholm Syndrome, Taranto, Kelly, Flynn, Whitfield and Toby Greene (yes, he’s back) might feature in your team.

Also be wary of the return of public enemy #1, tagger Matt DeBoer.

Thommo’s Tip:  Giants by 12 points (tipping record 19/35).

    1. He he you stirrer Troo Roo.

Can you believe I’ve got Bianco ( benched for Highmore ) as cover if he is ?

      For me in this one.

      Whitfield… hopefully 😉
      Josh Kelly….. on debut
      Ziebell..

Will De Boar get used as a midfield tagger ? I think they may trust their midfield. It’s been pretty good lately. I think he may play forward on a Ziebell / Hall type and try and upset their ball movement out of defence.

I’m hoping he’s not on Cunnington, as that may mean he goes to Walsh next week. R14 is going to bad enough.

North seem better in Tassie, so this should be a pretty good game.

Tipping Toby to go well ( >110 ) and tempt a few next week

      1. Nice trade FT, with Kelly.

That seals your victory as he was my only hope. (slim though it was)

        Congratulations.

  1. “public enemy #1, tagger Matt DeBoer.” has signed a one year contract extension with the Giants.

  3. Quick Question,
If Highmore is on my bench as an emergency and I put Ridley on my field and take Cumming off will I get Highmores score even though I already have 18 players scoring on field?
    Hopefully this makes sense
    Thanks

  4. Afternoon, all.

Just Hall and Ziebell here for me.

Ended up passing on Whitty, knew I wouldn’t have the trades if something happened to him – but good luck to those who brought him in, will be a great pick for as long as he’s out there.

Named Kelly in the captaincy article, expecting him to go large.

  5. Oh boy. Last second swap of my loophole Sharp (Bris) has left the C on Whitfield.

    Here we go then!

  6. Kelly, Taranto, Whitfield and Ziebell for me. Not looking like a great start by the Giants but it’s only one quarter

  7. I didn’t know that Greg Louganis was playing for the Giants.
Didn’t see him listed amongst the rookie forwards.
That acting should get a substantial fine.

  8. Top 5k players :
More than 50% of teams went for Whitfield.
Just over 20% traded in Kelly.
Flynn trade out from about 20% of teams – only in 8% of teams

    1. Yeah, needed him to stay low for a few league matchups but watch him have a 50 point last.

  9. Whitfield doesn’t look right. IMO he’s probably carrying a knock.
Onee of SC’s premier burn men strikes again! Can’t say the SC world wasn’t warned.

  10. Roos up 28, wow. Great to see.

Hopefully they close it out. Good luck, RB, TR and Shaggi.

…also helps that Giants losing keeps them off our [West Coast] tail, hehe.

    1. Very disappointed as I thought we were the better side for 3 quarters but we couldn’t just close it out.
It seemed ever 50/50 decision, bounce etc went against the Roos in the last quarter.
However, we are playing better now and won’t be a walk over in the second half of the season.

  11. Two new trades in this week have been very contrasting. Hall has been fantastic, Whitfield questionable…

    1. F*ckin’ nice, Glen!

Knew he’d go large, named in article.

I, of course, couldn’t take my own advice as I don’t have him lol.

  12. Thanks GD, I listened to you. VC Kelly and I am taking it, ( even though Gawn vs a rookie ruck…)

    1. Already got the 2 extra trades, will be able to use 4 of however many you have left next week (bye round).

  13. Probably put the Mozz on the rest of my round, but pretty happy with my recruiting for round 13 – Newk, Hall and Jelly.
