Game Chat – Port Adelaide v Geelong

Written by Thommo on June 22 2019

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, Saturday, June 22, 7.10pm ACST

What it means for Port Adelaide: After spending the past month on the road, travelling to Launceston, China and Perth, the Power are finally back at home. But it’s far from a happy homecoming, taking on the premiership favourites.

What it means for Geelong: The Cats are absolutely flying having won eight straight heading into the bye. After a chance to refresh, the ladder leaders will be aiming to continue that momentum in the second half of the season.

The stat: The Cats have had the wood on the Power, winning 14 of their past 15 encounters. The streak started in the 2007 Grand Final when the Cats belted the Power by 119 points.

The match-up: Scott Lycett v Rhys Stanley
Two of the big improvers in the Official AFL Player Ratings go head-to-head in the ruck. Lycett has risen 161 spots – from 299th to 138th overall – while Stanley is 98th overall after starting the season ranked 207th. Lycett will share the Power’s ruck duties with Paddy Ryder.

It’s a big week for: Harry Taylor
The reliable defender reaches a significant milestone when he becomes the 17th player to play 250 games for the Cats. Taylor, who celebrated his 33th birthday last week, continues to play a key role in the backline.

Thommo’s Tip: Cats by 30 points

      1. I find a lot of times that women’s soccer, especially at the international level, is infinitely more watchable because they actually play the ball instead of playing for free kicks.
