Game Chat – Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs

Written by Thommo on June 14 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: Adelaide Oval, 7.50pm AEST

SUMMARY
Thursday night football returns for the first time since round two and features the Power as they attempt to consolidate their position in the top eight. The eighth-placed Power (7-4) have won three of their past four games, including a last-start victory over reigning premier Richmond, but are coming off a six-day break. In contrast, the out-of-form but well-rested Bulldogs (4-7), will be hoping the bye helps them end a three-game losing streak. Tory Dickson’s hamstring injury is a blow to a Bulldogs’ forward line that has struggled to hit the scoreboard. Port’s All Australian ruckman Paddy Ryder, who continues to manage an Achilles injury, should dominate the Bulldogs’ tandem of Tom Boyd and Jordan Roughead, while prolific ball winner Jack Macrae will need assistance to help tame Ollie Wines, a resurgent Chad Wingard and Sam Powell-Pepper. The Power set a high standard for themselves with last week’s victory over the Tigers. The key now is to back it up in a game they’re expected to win.

  2. I wonder how many would have traded out laird if they knew he was going to be out for a minimum of 3 weeks , no honesty @ the crows ..

    1. Wouldn’t have been as many due to the carnage that week as well as the fact that he is still in really good form.

    2. He broke a bone in his hand. Was never going to come back a week before the bye. I never heard anything from Adelaide suggesting he was in this week after missing one match.

Both leave me with a whopping 16 on field thanks for nothing Laird, Coffield, Phillips, Murphy

  4. Free against McLean? What a joke, both players going for the ball. He was still on his feet, for Christ’s sake

    1. Worst rule in the game now. Has over taken the holding the ball rule which I despise. Every umpire has a different interpretation and it’s never consistent.

    1. Picked him up tonight for M Walters. Can get Walters back later, but missing these two with the carnage was going to hurt me.

  6. Bulldogs should target a big full fwd next year , their small fwd line has no targets to crumb off , even a crap I like Hawkins would make a huge difference ..

      1. They have Boyd. They had Schache.

They have an actual viable ruckman in Campbell, but they keep him in the magoos where he consistently gets 40+ hitouts.

They don’t need extra draft picks, they just need to grow a brain and pick their best players in their best positions.

    1. You mean like Boyd? Or maybe Schache? Hmm maybe someone older like Trengove? And that’s ignoring that theyve still got Redpath to come back into the team.

They need more than a key forward, they need to learn how to use a forward.

  8. McLean’s 22 SC to HT is killing me.

9 disposals, 3 frees against, 44% disposal efficiency and only 59% game time played.

        1. Can’t tell you exact number, Ben…….but quite sure it’ll be over 200+. Expect Macrae to drop under $550k in a hurry over next few weeks…….

  9. F me I accidentally put the C on Macrae and the V on Titch instead of vice versa, could have picked a better week to make that mistake.

    1. Just a lazy 56 points for the term, good to see. I took a risk bringing him in a couple of weeks ago, could be a nice pod if he can get anywhere near his best

    1. It seems like blokes playing for their next contract are supercoach gold. Dusty last year, this year its Wines who has just started negotiations, McGovern looking to get a deal at West Coast and Gaff having his best year ever. Look for the free agents!
