Game Chat – Port v Sydney

Written by Motts on August 10 2019

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, Saturday, August 10, 1.40pm ACST

What it means for Port Adelaide: The Power can potentially move into the top eight and be another step closer to finals action if they back up last weekend’s victory against Essendon and knock over the Swans.

What it means for Sydney: The Swans will be desperate to snap a five-game losing streak and build some momentum for next season after a painful two-point loss to Greater Western Sydney in the Sydney Derby last weekend.

The stat: The Power have won the past two meetings, but the Swans still lead the overall ledger 20-9. The Swans have a great record at Adelaide Oval, having won four of their five games at the venue, including both encounters against the Power.

The match-up: Darcy Byrne-Jones v Tom Papley

Power defender Byrne-Jones has had a stellar season, averaging 22.6 disposals per game and rising 49 spots in the Official AFL Player Ratings to sit 203rd overall. He’ll likely get the job on Papley, the Swans’ best small/medium forward (124th overall) and their leading goal-kicker with 31 for the season.

It’s a big week for: Isaac Heeney

The Swans star will be looking for a big performance to celebrate his 100th game for the club. Coming off a four-goal effort against the Giants, Heeney will be a handful for the Power defenders when he’s roaming forward.

Big call: The Power’s ruckmen to have a combined 60 hitouts against an undermanned Swans ruck department.

Mottsy’s Tip: Port will win back to back games for the first time in ages. Power by 30.
