Game Chat – Port v Western Bulldogs

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on March 7 2020

Where and when: Bennett Oval, Saturday 7 March, 4.10pm AEDT

Watchlist:

Dan HOUSTON (PORT) DEF/MID @ $484,800

96 SC from 71% TOG in Marsh One was in the trajectory those of us on the Houston train wanted him on. A touch more assertiveness and a triple digit score today should seal things.

Mitchell GEORGIADES (PORT) FWD @ $130,800

The contrast of the most Aussie first name with the most Greek last name alone makes me want to start him, but there may be an SC case for Georgiades as well. His scoring is never going to be fantastic, but a departure of talls from Port makes his job security look solid.

Connor ROZEE (PORT) FWD @ $422,100

Always felt the pre-season hype about him was a year or two preemptive, but 108 SC from 57% TOG simply cannot ignored. Attended 8 center bounces in that game, if that number can creep up might he be worth considering at F3? Watch closely.

Jordan SWEET (WBD) RUC @ $123,900

Went under the radar in Marsh One with all of us asking ourselves “Can I go the Triple Dog? Macrae, Dunkley and now Bont!?”. Sweet managed 24 hitouts against Goldstein and Xerri for a serviceable 73 SC. With 8 man benches in the Marsh format and English, we don’t know if he’ll actually get on the park but could be a handy cow if the Dogs add some vertical depth.

Notable Absentees: Ollies WINES (PORT).

  1. Might need one more year on Rozee for Supercoach, but he’s already an amazing player. If he develops the tank to run through the midfield full time, look out.

I take back what I said about Houston, he has to be a lock now if he wasn’t already.

Georgiades is another forward rookie bust by the look of it, cross him off.

The Big 3 Dogs have all looked good, but BOG in the first half in my opinion was Bailey Williams ($300K def).

    1. Houston has actually been my preferred D3 over the Doc all year … just too much worried about Doc coming back from 2 ACL injuries …

  2. Rozee ave 90+ will put him amongst the best Forwards….in my team atm….agree Georgiades..won’t score well imo

    1. Would have like to see Rozee more in the middle today BUT he was definitely part of there best trio, with Boak & Houston, I’m still pretty tempted.

  3. Will there be any rookies this year? Get the feeling a lot of us will have to pay a premium for our rooks

  4. Lycett now off and icing his achilles / ankle – not in the running either for any of those looking at him.

Also, the Bont looks most explosive out of the middle …

      1. just awkwardly priced though …plus he always promises but never seems to do quite enough

Port also have Ladhams priced at $326.7K – commentators were saying that Lycett was actually dropped for him last year .

Comments from sideline just then, they (power) reckon only slight strains on both Lycett and Dixon … so watch injury news on these

        1. Should say that the comment on Lycett by Port was actually “ankle strain” … which was not where the ice was!! The ice was wrapped around his achilles on the camera, not his ankle … so this one will be interesting to watch …

          1. You cant wrap ice or anything else around an achilles because its the ligament at the back of your ANKLE. You’d need to conduct surgery to wrap something around it

  5. Dixon now down with an adductor strain they are saying – iced up, not looking too great either …

    1. Mixture – Hoff can’t be everywhere and Port have lost both Lycett and Dixon … so they are down their big men …

He3 is trying to get to as many ruck contests as he can

      1. So won’t read too much into English‘s score then? How was he with the eye test…

ROB very underwhelming last night, lycett injured & English not having a genuine opponent today means Gawn might get that R2 spot for me after all after trying too avoid it but those 3 were the only blokes on my shortlist

        1. hi didn’t look too bad … but not great either … when it really counted in the last 10 minutes of that last quarter, Hoff outplayed him …

May be a year too early for English … another year and some more size / fitness and he could be quite good …

        2. Completely agree. Lycett was my Goldilocks with Gawn too expensive and Naismith too risky… not sure which to do now??

          1. In the same boat pumba. I think I’ll have to just lock in Gawn. Can’t trust anyone else thus far after what I’ve seen

  6. Big comeback from Port in last quarter to win by 10 – kicked 5 to 1 … Lienert kicked 2 in last minute. Ports little men just over ran the Doggies … not good for Doggies … Hoff was good in last quarter at the stoppages … won lots of hitouts …

    1. slammed into the ground by Hayes in late tackle on sideline … was rested for the remainder of match …

      1. Nope that happened early in the first quarter and he played until a few minutes to go in second quarter

    2. Macrae worrying anybody? Was okay in the 1st marsh but very poor today for a 680k mid! anyone actually watch the match to tell us more? Was he just takin it easy

      1. yeah, I had same thought … just didn’t seem to get anywhere near enough of it …
Bont also spent a bit of time up forward too … which is also worrying when looking at him …

Disposals / CPs / DE / TOG for the doggie big 3:

        Macrae – 23 / 6 / 87 /82
        Bont – 27 / 12 /74 /78
        Dunk – 28 / 10 / 78 82

Make of it what you will!

      2. With premos in Marsh don’t look at their scores, just make sure they’re playing the role you want them to and lock them in. Everyone is playing in second gear.
