Game Chat – Richmond v Collingwood

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on March 1 2020

Where and when: Norm Minns Oval, Sunday 1 March, 4.10pm AEDT

Watchlist:

Marlion PICKETT (RICH) MID @ $123,900

Pretty much in everyone’s side after that standout Grand Final performance. Just needs to look serviceable and you can lock him in.

Darcy CAMERON (COLL) FWD/RUC @ $123,900

Don’t see the Pies running Cox, Reid and Cameron when Grundy returns – one of them goes. Cameron’s got the Marsh Series to stake his claim.

Trent BIANCO (COLL) DEF/MID @ $117,300

Been likened to Jake Lloyd for his elite accumulating ability; racking 22+ disposals in all of his NAB League games bar one. One of the few DEF rookies who aren’t top shelf priced, hopefully he can get some games.

Usually when I assemble these watchlists I shoot for a minimum of 4 – 5 players, however there was very little for me to go on this time around by way of pre-season reports on rookies and the relevant premos pretty much select themselves. Welcome any insights in the comments if anything’s escaped me.

Notable Absentees: Bachar HOULI (RICH), Dustin MARTIN (RICH), Brodie GRUNDY (COLL), Brayden SIER (COLL).

  1. Pickett, Dawkins, Cameron, bianco.
If trealor goes 160+, I’ll be too confused on who to start v’s bont, Oliver and danger.

    1. I wouldn’t read too much into Treloar’s score considering Richmond is missing Cotchin and Martin, plus Pendlebury and Sidebottom aren’t there to take points off him.

    1. He seems more of a Fantasy Player as his high possession count didn’t amount to good SC scores last season.

That said, he might do an older age breakout as they are all the rage for defenders at the moment.

    2. Shockingly inconsistent, as someone who regrettably held him throughout 2019, I would advise against.

    3. I’ve had him the last 2 seasons… not this one … so likely to go well … I still like him, but he’s the ultimate teaser.. If he has more mid time then maybe …

    1. Think you might be onto something, TOF.

With an apparent lack of rookies, we might have to give those 200k~ 2nd/3rd year “rookies” a look. Eg. Noble, Vandenberg, Keays, Ham, Bonar, Bewley, Schultz, etc.

      1. Totally agree GD. Add Green from GWS and Ash to that list and Serong from Freo. Thinking there will be some cheaper rookies like Brander, McInerney, Pickett and Gould that will get a game but feel we might have to pay a premium to get the rookies with more security this year.

    1. Looked innocuous. Walked fine to the rooms. Looks like they iced it as a precaution. Why risk one of your guns in an MS game?!
      Hopefully I’m reading it right.?

      1. Buckley said in his Presser that Treloar has done or got a nick to his hamstring. 19 days before the Pies 1st game so
Treloar is an unlikely starter with 21 days being the standard recovery time for a hammy.

Remembering how bad Treloar did both of his Hamstrings two years back no risks will be taken by the club mark my words.

    1. Always gets mine. I’d enjoy watching him play rather than pick him in SC. Believe me, you’ll hate him come Rd8!!

  2. Bianco only 23% tog? Doesn’t look good for rookies this year. Going to be a mad dash come 5pm on the Friday before lockout

    1. Which bit? Vlastuin? If that’s what you’re referring to, it’s because the last time I started him … he killed me. Imperious yes, but all the SCpts seem to dissipate to those around him when the serious stuff starts.

      1. Correct allsaints, very very good afl player. Not a sc scorer , similar to rance who was a great defender and an ave sc scorer.

        1. Another opinion allsaints there seems to be a bit of angst re lack of rookies this year. Aren’t we all in rhe same boat , there isn’t a secret pool that the top 100 are going to find somehow.

  3. Darcy Cameron was my R3 at start of preseason as I though he’d push Cox out.

More likely they drop Reid at this stage? He looks cooked.

    1. Cameron looked great, I was under the impression he was a big lump who just beat up on NEAFL players but he’s surprisingly athletic, a pretty good kick, sticky hands & decent in the ruck.

  4. I don’t know where he fits in but geez I liked the look of Tyler Brown, used the ball well, made good decisions in general & a great size, not sure where he fits in SC wise, if at all, but definitely has ability.

    1. Bianco & Rantell both looked good in their cameos but such low TOG hard to see them in the picture for R1, RCD a worry to only getting 55% TOG with charity game guys missing, Ross looks like he’s first in line for any extra midfield minutes.

  5. Running Xerri R3 and Cameron F7/8 at the moment.
Think they will both struggle to get a game behind Grundy and Goldstein and be used as insurance policys or more likely to be played alongside/forward rotations, as in – too much of a risk/waste to have both?
