Game Chat – Richmond v Essendon

Written by Father Dougal on May 27 2017

Venue: MCG, Saturday, May 27, 7.25pm AEST

Last Time They Met: R17, 2016, Richmond 16.6 (102) d Essendon 11.17 (83) at the MCG
R10, 2016, Richmond 16.9 (105) d Essendon 10.7 (67) at the MCG
R22, 2015, Richmond 10.14 (74) d Essendon 7.5 (47) at the MCG
R9, 2015, Richmond 10.12 (72) d Essendon 8.11 (59) at the MCG
R20, 2014, Richmond 14.11 (95) d Essendon 11.11 (77) at the MCG

Game notes: After a rough patch of form, Essendon has tapped into a potent combination of speed and toughness that has its season back on track. The Bombers are settled at the selection table and players appear comfortable in their roles as a trademark style of play emerges at 5-4. They hit the annual Dreamtime at the ‘G match on a high against a Richmond side that has been crushed by heartbreaking losses three weeks running. After a 5-0 start, the Tigers have slipped to 5-4 and they desperately need a win to break the cycle of close losses that are cruelling their season. Damien Hardwick’s men are producing good football for long periods, but they are crumbling at critical times and losing credibility as a contender in an even season.

    1. For those that didn’t realise this was accidentally posted last night with the west coast v Essendon stats, just to clarify why this was said. 🙂

    1. Plays a very SC friendly role, me likes. Went early on Greenwood this week so I could squeeze him in next week instead.

      1. Considered bringing him in this week and will strongly consider next week. Also Greenwood is currently running at a 100% contested possession rate (5/5).

    1. In the scoring anomolies article we should do a positive cd vote and a negative cd vote, and telly it at the end of the year. Will help us decide who to pick and who to steer clear of. Top3 positive to date for mine;
      1.Bontempelli 2.Pendlebury 3.Dangerfield

      Top3 negative to date
      1.Treloar 2.Cameron 3.Rance
Special mention to Orozio Fantasia he looked unbelievable in the first 1/4 and yet he’s score is very mediocre. I didn’t see the last half did he go missing or something?

  4. Does CD have any idea how to score Alex Rance . better to get 30 uncontested like Hibberd rather than a match winning game week after week. I will pick Rance and take the lesser score because he is a champ ( and I do barrack for richmond)

    1. Just saw the post about McGrath , good on the kid but it just shows up the weakness in CD scoring. One of the ch7 commentators tonight said Rance is the best defender he has seen.

      1. Yeah there are some players who are cut out for supercoach because of their play style where others do tremendous amounts off the ball and don’t get rewarded for it

    2. So you’d rather have him in your SuperCoach side than a higher-scoring defender, simply because you’re a fan?

      1. I should have said I picked him because I thought he would be a top six defender and I will stick with him , but I still think he is short paid by CD. However supercoach scores aren’t always about the best players and I grudgingly accept that.

        1. Oh, there’s no question that the SuperCoach scoring system undervalues key-position players. Not as badly as Dreamteam tends to, but it’s still not ideal.

  5. Welcome to the side Dusty.

Nearly made him captain but thought Pendles in the day tomorrow against the lions….
