Game Chat – St Kilda v Hawthorn

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on February 20 2020

Where and when: RSEA Park, Thursday 20 February, 7.10pm AEDT

Watchlist:

Dougal HOWARD (STK) DEF/FWD @ $376,500:

Will line up at full back with plenty to prove after moving over from Port, vertical ability and DPP make him one to watch.

Jade GRESHAM (STK) FWD/MID @ $456,500:

Chatter over the pre-season pointed to a potential move to the midfield. Now at the right age for a break-out and named as a follower. Dissatisfied with F3 options, I’ve got my eyes on him.

Hunter CLARK (STK) DEF @ $402,200:

Our resident stats wizard AllSaints accurately called Clark’s SC potential off of half back last year. Ratts seems to have since got the message and has slotted him there.

Tom MITCHELL (HAW) MID @ $630,900:

Definitely the main attraction tonight. Solid minutes, full contact and any reminders of his Brownlow year dominance will see him rightly spike in ownership.

Max KING (STK) FWD @ $123,900:

Will make his long awaited debut at full forward. Job security is already solid, add decent scoring out-put and we’ve got ourselves a cash cow.

Notable Absentees:

James SICILY (HAW), Dylan ROBERTON (STK), Dan HANNEBERRY (STK).

  3. I am watching the game on Kayo. Bradley Hill seems to be playing very well. How does that translate into SC points?

      1. Is he playing through the midfield at all?
Wanting to keep a close eye on him through the pre season. Stats look good. Do we think he could be a sneaky pod to begin with come round 1?

  4. A little of track here —- but anyway… Delete if necessary

This one’s for all the internationals that also happen to be tight-asses, like myself and want to stream the footy.

Digital subscription prices vary widely, so it pays to shop around. Adelaide being the cheapest and Collingwood only $5 more expensive. At the other end of the scale, the Swans and Bulldogs believe that they are worth a lot more to watch exactly the same thing, but still cheaper than the actual watch afl website.

    WatchAFL €149/ $244AUD

    Geel 190.00
    St Kilda 187.00

    Collingwood 160.00

    Bulldogs 210.00

For clarity, I was technically a Freo supporter last year when I paid only $140. So if you don’t mind being a member of another team. Looks like I will be a Crow member this year… ! My family will definitely dis-own me this time!

  5. Didn’t get to see the game but looks like a good win for the Sainters.
Titch looks like he will be in every team on his return season, good players just find the ball.

I am hoping that someone can fill me in on Rowan Marshall’s game? Did he play well?

If the score I found for him at 117 for 3/4 of a game is correct he will well and truly satisfy me in the R2 position but like every one at this time of year it is all guess work. Will Gawn be ready to go Round 1? if not think plenty might jump on Rowan.

From stats the other stand out was Hill with around 65 from 62% game time. Did he go well?

One last thing – Billings – is he the real deal this year or just like last year and a pretender? Not a bad score.

Cheers guys as I can’t afford Kayo 🙂

  6. It’s still so early but I was happy with the guys that are pencilled in my team ATM, like Marshall, Ceglar. king was mostly disappointing though.

A few to add to the watch list for next game and I might have to re-think titch.

      1. I’ve tried, but I have to give up several of the likes of Doedee, Roberton, Rowell, S Hill to do it.
        6 deep……..hmmmmmmm

    1. You said it Wighty one Doggie has to go, it is Dunkley. But Oliver in my opinion would be the weakest link of your Midfield bcoz he may start slowly if it works with your bye strategy.

  10. Didn’t watch the game, can anybody tell me how Gresham went?

Based on scores, looks like he was a bit hit and miss, I do note his limited time on ground though.

    1. He did…..Marshall instead of Gawn almost gets me Titch at m6 with a bit of juggling. But the Grawn c loop for most of the year looks so enticing.

    2. I haven’t been able to find this in print anywhere but there’s a podcast that claims Ryder said Marshall will be the primary ruck with Ryder playing forward unless Marshall is up against a good tap ruckmen then Ryder will give him a chop out.

Ceglar is far from a good tap ruckmen so Marshall got to be the man.

There next pre season game might be a good test of that theory
