Game Chat – Sydney v Geelong

Written by Father Dougal on July 28 2019

Where and when: SCG, Sunday July 27, 3.20pm

What it means for Sydney: A massive chance to take down the ladder leaders, who are struggling for form since the bye, and build some confidence amongst the team’s younger players.

What it means for Geelong: After being 10-1 ahead of their bye, the Cats have lost three of their past five games and must get the year back on track against a depleted and inexperienced Swans outfit.

The stat: Star midfielders Patrick Dangerfield and Tim Kelly shared 54 possessions and 14 clearances in Geelong’s win over the Swans in round 11. The pair hasn’t shown that sort of form of late and loom as the game-breakers on Sunday.

The match-up: Ryan Clarke v Mitch Duncan
Former Kangaroo Clarke is ranked 384th in the AFL’s Official Player Ratings and performed some key shutdown roles on the wing earlier this year before being dropped. He might get the job on Duncan (ranked 39th) this week. The Cat uses the footy brilliantly forward of centre, so the Swans must nullify his delivery to help their defenders.

It’s a big week for: Gary Rohan
The former Swan started the year well at his new club but has kicked just three goals in his past seven matches and had a solitary kick against Hawthorn last week. Geelong needs him to find some touch at his old home ground.

Father Dougal’s Tip: Cats by 20 points.

  2. i recon fantasy stats should be changed a bit
a players average score is taken over the games he has played that year
but i recon the av should include the game he has missed as 0’s also
    for example
a player like buddy may have an average of 70 when he plays
but if he misses 1/2 the year his av would really be 35 over that year
would expose a lot of these less durable , so called premos, i recom

      1. if ppl don’t want to loose the current misleading averages
        then make a 2nd average
the 1st reflecting a player that plays 1 game for the season & scores 250
so he can have his 250 average
        the 2nd average
showing the true numbers over the year
        a player playing 5 games scoring 100 in each @ round 10
would have a truer average of 50 per round
        could have both averages

        1. its more of a durability average
could call the current average AGP ( average games played )
in buddys case would be 70
& the durability average AAR ( average all rounds)
in buddys case would be about 35
would be very handy when picking starting team , early trading or when we are low on trades
would be tempted to take buddy @ 350 k with an av of 70
but less inclined , when we see this sort of player’s scoring over the whole season

          1. good for those who don’t have the time to pull out the calculator &
research every player they are thinking about trading in
