Game Chat – Sydney vs Hawthorn

Written by Thommo on July 25 2020

Where and when: SCG, Saturday 25th July at 3:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Rd 14, 2019: Sydney 12.10 (82) def Hawthorn 9.9 (63) at the SCG.

What it means for Sydney: The Swans are fielding a very young team and they have few expectations on them but they will still want to chalk up a win to keep the crowd interested. Sydney fans can be fickle when the wins are scarce!

What it means for Hawthorn: Anyone who has watched the Hawks in recent weeks will know they have lost the plot completely and they really need to show something today. If they can’t knock off the struggling Swans, the Hawks should shut up shop for 2020 and hunt for draft picks (and not trade them for overhyped flogs).

Thommo’s Watch: I will be watching this match in the hopes my boys show something. Anything! DO SOMETHING!

Thommo’s Tip: Sydney by 1 point? I struggle tip Hawks matches.

  1. Dawson named in the backline for the first time this year I think … will he impact Lloyd like last year?

    1. I like the time clock going up. Builds the suspense if you dont know how much time is left.
      Thumbs up….clock going up
      Thumbs down ….clock going down

      1. I loved the old 5 minute warning clock on Channel 10. Countdown the first 15 minutes but then with the last 5 count up so it added more thrill to a close game

          1. I was at the Carlton-Hawthorn game in 2008 when Buddy kicked his 100th and Fev was on 99 in the 4th – not knowing how much time was left made it even more intense.

    1. Yeah, I think some were hoping a change of scenery would help but it looks like he brought his issues with him.

  2. C’mon Worpel get the ball man, need him to get 15 disposals for my multi. He’s been no where near it so far which is wierd being a contested player in a wet game

  3. Being a hawks fan,and not sc related,it’s been a very slow burn the last couple of seasons, and looking at the list I think we’ll be down the bottom two or three for quite a while.

    1. I don’t mind trading draft picks but the Hawks have really burnt themselves with the Wingard trade. They need some youth, not overrated players who damage morale with their attitude.
