Game Chat – West Coast v Fremantle

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on March 7 2020

Where and when: HBF Arena, Saturday 7 March, 7.10pm AEDT

Watchlist:

Stephen HILL (FREO) DEF/FWD @ $190,600

Reported to have trained well this week and comes at the right time with rookies up FWD, and everywhere else frankly, looking thin. He’ll need to plodder along at around 70~ SC to be viable.

Brett BEWLEY (FREO) FWD @ $252,700

Really liked his performance last week playing on the ball, look for him to back it up again today and potentially slot at F4 to serve a similar purpose as Hill.

Caleb SERONG (FREO) MID @ $175,800

The second-highest rated player at the NAB U18 Championships only bested by Rowell. Very solid stoppage, pressure and disposal numbers, but also demonstrated an ability to hit the scoreboard after booting 33 goals from 31 games. Midfield minutes might be tight, but could slot into a forward pocket role instead.

Sam STURT (FREO) FWD @ $123,900

Matera’s relegation to an emergency opens a FF role up for Sturt. Not much intel on him, but I’ll take any basement price rookies at this stage.

Notable Absentees: Bailey WILLIAMS (WCE), Jack DARLING (WCE), Connor BLAKELY (FREO), Blake ACRES (FREO), Hayden YOUNG (FREO).

  2. Sam Sturt info;

Was drafted at pick 17 in the 2018 afl draft. Struggled with concussion in the wafl which held back his afl debut!

His 2018 NAB stats from 6 games was averaging 12.7 disposals, 7.5 k, 5.2 h, 4.2 Mark’s, 3.2 tackles and 1.8 goals per game at 69.1 dt points (cant get sc)

His 2019 WAFL stats from 9 games (not including concussion affected games) was 13.2 disposals, 5.77k, 7.44 h, 3.88 Mark’s, 2.88 tackles and .55 goals per game at 58.7 dt points.

At 189cm hes still a developing lad that should definitely get games this year at freo, I’d expect a 50ish average from him and could be serviceable in a year lacking rookies.

  4. Lycett was my Goldilocks with Gawn too expensive and Naismith too risky… not sure which to do after the big Port ruckman appears to have strained his ankle/achilles.

TU: Naismith and use the cash elsewhere
TD: Pay overs for Gawn but know you’re getting the best

  5. Can someone please update on fyfe? All this talk about him playing forward more often this season… is he a starter?

    1. It’s preseason, the guns are just there to get a run, can’t read too much into anything.

  6. Much like Macca, I also got roped into to some family stuff tonight and am missing the game. Will watch it later, but following the scores. Need to indulge myself by starting atleast ONE of my beloved Eagles, and it looks like Hurn is comin’ back into my side baby!

  7. Schulz might be an option for a cheap fwd 218k . Scored 101 in Marsh 1 and is on 44 @HT from 80%GT

  8. Looks like Brander will have to do something horrid to lose his spot in weagles team. only on 33 @HT but he’s def/fwd for 133k so not a bad option. Only scored 46 from 72%GT in Marsh 1 though so I wouldn’t be happy with him on field

    1. Brander looked Ok. Hopefully we have a bench rookie at a reasonable price. 75 super coach points 77% game time.

    1. That DE% is a real worry but if he get’s enough of it I suppose he’ll still score fine for a forward.

  9. stop it you badman nicnat… oh so so tempted!
imagine when he bumps that TOG up too 70-80%

Gaff has been at M5 for 2-3 weeks and thats enough to throw away the key

    2

    1
        1. No, WCE are using Nicnat as an impact player and limiting him to 55-65 TOG. He maxed out 68 in 2018 for one game but half were still under 60.

  10. S. Hill set for scans on his quad – didn’t play the last quarter . Making life very difficult for def/fwd structures.
