How Did You Go? – Rd1

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 24 2019

Tough week for most with the Ruckmen (in general) underperforming along with premiums such as Oliver, Merrett, Dangerfield & Heeney. Then there was the age-old problem of having the right rookies on-field.  Anything over 2100 should be very solid for Rd1 this year.  Remember to keep calm, there’s still a long road ahead……..

  1. 2110/Gawn

Poor captaincy option and having Petruccelle, Butters and Hore on the field instead of Parker, Scott and Wilkie cost me in excess of 100 points.

Should hopefully finish this round in the top 10k.

Plenty of upside for Catta’s Clan, Balta & Collins on the ground & Parker & Scott on the pine! Oliver / Grundy & Heeney to lift in R2.

Outstanding efforts by Cogs, Fyfeinator, Macrae, Cripps & Drew.
Fantastic effort by most of the rookies with Constable, Clark, Walsh, Setterfield, Butters & Duursma all doing very well to kick off the season.

Isn’t it great to have the footy back 🙂

A little disappointing, I’d say. Will probably miss qualifying for SCT Cup again. Main thing is minimal injuries and we can re-group for Rd2……

Solid last game climb up with Fyfe and Goldi playing well. Looked sad at the start of the day when it looked like I was last in a few leagues but you can’t tell how many players to go for the others, just yourself. At the end of the day, very happy with most except Collins.

Rookies all did well even though Walsh and Butters on field didn’t perform as well as lower priced rookies although they Still did well.
Grundy score scared me so I went Gawn to Goldstein which worked out however I then upgraded Sheed to Martin.
Biggest disappointment Oliver however only rnd 1.

Hard not to think what could have been with perfect rookies on field . But overall very happy with potentially darling and gawn my only 2 disappointing premos

Fyfe saved me from total debacle. Have Balta, Collins + Bailey Smith on field ahead of Drew, Duursma + Bailey Scott. Could’ve been better, could’ve been worse……

        1. Same. I panicked and traded the wrong rookie out, and the wrong rookie in? I hate trading after Round 1, but I’m not impressed with a couple of those rookies – I’m looking at you, Collins, and well may you hang your head.

  10. 2131/Gawn/ don’t think I’ll make top 10k with this….

Bit disappointed with some of my decisions, but overall not too bad. Also I’m worried about my rucks. Spent a bloody fortune on these two blokes and both were disappointing. What’s worse is that I haven’t seen a decent replacement out there for them except the Hoff maybe…. Well it’s just round one, back to the drawing board. Good luck to all the coaches!!

  12. I was a bit disappointing at 2025 (Cripps VC).

A lot of talked up midpricers failing me.

Dad’s team hit all the right midpricers , with his last minute change from Libba to Rocky, as well as Sheed.

2309 is a massive round 1. the old fella might actually take the biscuit.

Pretty happy with that tbh. Only regret was trading in Collins including having on-field and trading out Westhoff would you believe……oh what could have been!

Had most of the high scoring quality rookies playing though which obviously helped boost the score except for Bailey Scott.

Was expecting a 2050 with 2 in the last game. Then Fyfe and Scott pump out a 250 between them. If it wasnt for the likes of Oliver, Gawndy and Petruccelle on the field instead of Parker it could have been better. The other coaches had to deal with some lacklustre performances too, so shouldn’t complain.

with a couple bad field choices with my rookies, but sounds like I’m not the only one.

If Grundy,Gawn,Oliver and Danger can all fire and score what we were expecting then I think I’m gunna be alright.

Everyone else just did okay. Doubt I will trade, darling definitely gets another week. Duursma might be fielded before Collins tho

    The excellent:
Drew (onfield) and all other rookies
    The good:
    MCrouch
    Cripps (VC/C)
    Neale
    Steele
    Whitfield
    The bad:
    Danger
    Heeney
    and he ugly:
    Grundy, Gawn and Oliver
    Hopefully they’ll bounce back.
Midpricers? All far out-scored BEs but nothing to write about

Feel pretty philosophical about it. Could have been better/worse.

    1. Not bad at all.

Oh, and the thing seeing your team on twitter inspired me to do was to look at the cows again and see if I could open up a midfield spot for Matt Crouch. Which I did and could, swapping Kelly out from the forwards. Reminds me I need to update my team reveal with my actual team.

  21. Most ripped off player of the week award:

    Libba.

“The 2016 premiership hero was typically at his best in the clinches, accumulating 28 possessions (13 contested) and game-high tallies of clearances (eight) and centre clearances (five) ”

    13 contested possessions, 28 total, 8 clearances.

When did that only work out to 75 SC points?

    5

    1. Completely went missing in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line. Bont and Macrae stepped it up late, hence their inflated scores.
I have Libba too, going to have to be patient with him while he builds his playing time back up, but I think he’s going to be a good buy.

Zerrett is on my never again list. Have to hold him but can’t wait to push him to m9. I though he’d be OK for a 90 minimum, hoping for a 110.

    1. He only made that 117 because of no other midfielders in one season. That doesn’t equal premo status.

    Rank: 28793

    100+: T Goldstein, R Laird, W Drew, L Whitfield
    80+: B Grundy, I Heeney, C Constable, Z Williams, P Dangerfield
    Below 80: C Oliver, Z Merrett, T Greene, J Darling, S Collins, Z Butters, J Clark, D Moore, S Walsh and W Setterfield.

Only 7 players scoring more than 100 and only 8 exceeding 85 so very happy with my score.

    Z Merrett, J Darling, B Grundy, C Oliver and P Dangerfield combined for 391
in comparison to W Drew, D Moore, C Constable, W Setterfield and J Clark combining for 403 outscoring the aforementioned premium quintet which would be a rare occurrence.

  25. 2149 Cogs

Oh well, bring out round 2!!

  26. 1974/ Gawn

77392 not actually my worst ever starting Rank, was 78979 in 2017, finishing 4216.

So many big names spudded up, and so many medium and little one were off by 10 or so. At least I stuck with my Gawn plan and did not put the C on Oliver.

Not seeing any moves to make however, unless a really good forward or defensive rookie I do not have shows up. I feel it is hard to come out ahead with cow upgrades, and suspect I will need the trade(s) more later on. Premos are all ones I will totally keep if uninjured, and cows will have to grow in whatever time it takes. I don’t think I missed any of the big ones.

Taking Cripps score as C was the right call… Along with Neale & Drew – only positives really.

So much bad… where to begin…

Last minute changes saw me take out several guys i had in my team all preseason & should’ve stuck with them, as it cost me dearly:

    Sheed -> Libba
    Moore -> Greene
    T. Kelly -> Mundy
    Lloyd -> Whitfield

Oliver, Collins & Grundy probably the worst of them all.

Passed on VC Cripps and put C on Gawn. Pure genius. 🙁

Grundy, Gawn and Collins’ 27 hurt, and some 60s (Walsh, Setterfield, Port rookies)

Still think overall Gawndy will get the most points for season. Expecting another 200pts+ in R2 if I field the right rookies… and put the C on a midfielder for goodness sake!

  31. 2095/Gawn

Until last week, Gawn wasn’t even in my team, but a meal and a few drinks with friends . . . .
Unhappy with the last minute trades (not the Gawn trade, he will come good), but the premium side worked, having traded out MCrouch and Witherden for Neale and HAndrews (HANDrews from now on, surely). The rookie side is where I dudded – Parker for Burgess? I blame Mr Bourbon, he is a pour (*) decision maker.
Unfair to be too hard on any player really – post-Round 1 is not the time for knee-jerk reactions. That is post-Round 2, when I realise the H2H is on.

Horrible week for me with Balta and Collins fielded in place of Duursma and Parker 🙁 some premos did not fire also hoping for them to rebound.

    Not too bad a start.
Hurn, Cripps, Neale, M Crouch, Cogs, T Kelly and Drew tonned up. Had Scott on the bench.
Rookies are rookies, not rage trading this week.
Disappointing start from Grundy and Gawn, can only get better.

  35. 1947 – Gawn

Had all the best scoring rookies on the bench in Scott, Parker and Drew missing almost 200 points there. Gawn/Grundy betrayed me and taking McGrath over Newman was a royal blunder.

Zorko, Fyfe (people seemed to be jumping off preseason) and TK (robbed of a better score as BOG) served me well.

    Could be a long year.

Had VC on Cripps and got greedy with Danger.
Was considering swapping Lycett to Westhoff when Ryder was named but stuck with my decision.
Fielded Collins with Burgess on def bench. Late swap Scrimshaw to Burgess.
    Swapped Parker to Balta (bench)
Fielded Drew, Constable, Scott and J Clarke.
No changes this week but will probably look at swapping Balta back to Parker and burgess to another def rookie after week 2

  39. Fair start with 2131.

Got the Goldstein/ Witts ruck setup plan away to a solid start with Grundy and Gawn performing below par. Extra $370,000 allowing to start with 3 premium defenders all scoring 100’s. Getting the rookies right fro round 3 will be the biggest challenge.
