How Did You Go?

Written by MJ on April 6 2015

Round 1 is done and dusted. How have you pulled up? Battered, bruised and wondering how it all went pear shaped? Or sitting there feeling pleased with your selections?

Give us your score in this format:
Score / Captain / Overall Ranking

Whatever you do, just remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor is a SuperCoach season won or lost in the first week.

Who were your heroes and villains?

  1. Just a heads up, Twitter is attempting to divert users from using your twitter link claiming you ‘insert malicious software’ and other ugly claims.

Short of what I hoped but much beter than last year.

More players unexpetedly below expectations than I like; but little to be done about that. At least I have a better idea which rookies to put o the field next week.

    Heroes: Tex Walker & McIntosh

Not Heroes: Dusty Martin, Jack Redpath, Crips. Lots of guys who were just a little short. Lots….

Heroes: McIntosh, Saad, Kennedy, vandenberg, heeney, bontempelli,
    Gray, Swan

Villains: newnes, Lubumba, Goodes, Selwood , Cripps, Salem, Martin

Overall I’m pretty happy. A few really disappointing scores

Quite happy with my team’s performance in Round 1. Just a quick shoutout to Hibberd, Cripps and Martin to lift their game next week.

Sidebottom, Griffin and Selwood are problems. Wondering if I should keep Sidey for the 4 weeks as a loophole to get the best out of my rookies? Some good quality there … but that leaves 600k on my bench. Options include Wines & J Lewis. Any opinion on either of them or using him as an early loophole?

Tex looks like a good selection … if he can keep it up.

Heroes: B.Smith, McIntosh, Burgoyne, Wines, vandenberg, ellis-yolmen, Heeney, Goldy, Bellchambers, Bontempelli, Gray

Villains: Martin, Selwood (is he gonna keep having these low scores), Cripps, Ahmad Saad ( wtf 21 from a full game??? ) and Newnes to an extent

I have never scored anywhere like this in the first round before. A few to thank are Treloar, B Smith, Sidebottom and Gray. Quite a few respectable scores from the rookies helped a lot.

  8. Just quickly pointing out that our Tech Leagues are sitting 2nd and 3rd overall!! How awesome is that?? Or is it depressing that the Tech side is better than the one I spent the last three months working on? 😉

    Disastrous start.

A lot of head scratching after the lowest round score that I can remember. A couple of corrective trades are on order me thinks. Cripps and Newnes on the block (along with the annual easter camping trip)

In my eyes I had four big PODs in the midfield. Sidebottom was about to go over 150 before he broke his thumb. He’s out for 6-8 weeks according to Buckley so there’s one trade down. Parker was racking up the touches but at a poor efficiency rate before getting knocked out. Jack Steven had plenty of it but at 59% efficiency, managed 100 pts. Lin Jong had a big last half and did well for his 97. Pretty happy with those picks.
Best move I made was changing my rucks before lockout. Had Maric and Goldstein still sitting there on Thursday morning. On a whim changed Big Ivan to Bellchambers. Then after the Saturday games, moved Goldstein to McEvoy. Only for cash reasons, and McEvoy was the only decent cheaper option available. Will sit out the rucks situation for a few weeks till they bottom out. Quite sure they’ll lose a bit of cash.
I went with the Richmond boys, Deledio and Martin, because I thought the Tigers could very well start the season with 5-1 after six Rounds. And they’d have a big part in that. Then Lids gets carried away in his attack on the ball and Dusty barely got his hands on it. While I’m happy that my Tigers won without much influence from these two (and Cotchin), I’m disappointed from a SC point-of-view.

Big shout out to the Tech Leagues!! Three of the top seven leagues after RD1, what a side!! 😉

And the SCT Abroad League is ranked 316 overall!! Not bad considering most don’t get to see much of the footy, great effort guys!!

  11. ‘The Shorn Sherrins’……..the ballsy team
    1988 / Ablett / 51358

Considering they carried Daisy’s four points over the weekend, I think the shaved balls did pretty well. Stevie J performed well in the loss to the Hawks, although he had another brain-fade (exactly why he was selected for the team). Dangerfield started the season well. Judd and Higgins will rise in value provided they can stay on the park long enough. And Cyril……teasing everyone again. He’s playing well, so the hammies must be ready to go soon enough. This team just makes me cringe whenever I see it. With that injury, Daisy has to go. I could do the safe trade and take Tex. I’m gonna go ballsy and take Cooney 😉

  12. Amazing start to the SCTTL leagues.

Well, except for Team “tysons goldsack” jumping into SCTTL 1 and ruining it for everyone (completely different team).

Somewhat glad as I’d have started with Rocky and Lids otherwise.

  15. 2177/JPK (looped from Fyfe)/2463rd

Last year I bottomed out at about 125000th early in the season (first SC for 7 years :/) but finished ~16000th. Was hoping to just beat that overall so utterly stoked with this round

    Heroes: Sloane, Wines, Bonti
    Villains: Newnes, Cripps, Taylor

  16. 2109/Fyfe/10394

Heros: McIntosh, Smith, Lewis, Fyfe, Swan, Heeney, Pendlebury, Clark, Hogan,
Villains: D.Martin, Newnes, Hibberd, Cripps, Salem

It’s was a alright round, I had some standout players (Lewis) but the worries are in Hibberd who might get traded for Gibson and Martin and if he doesn’t perform he’s out of here. But I don’t really want to make trades this early in the year.

  17. 1926 / Fyfe

My bench included McIntosh, Adam Saad, Heeney, CEY and Hogan, which cost me over 200 points. Switched between Swan and Bonts for weeks, then picked neither and watched them both raise the bat. Somehow have even less hair than I started with.
BUT…Ollie Wines was terrific, Gibbo at D1 was a good choice, and I had 5 ninties to go with 5 tons. Probably won’t trade this week, and still doing better than last year!

You know lots of people had bad rounds when they change the Sportingbet adds to Lifeline ads on the Supercoach results page.

Top 5 – Bonts, Rich, Grey, McIntosh, Ablett.

Bottom 5 (on field) – Martin, Cripps, Salem, Goodes, Newnes/Selwood.

  19. Highest possible score for SCTTL’s was 2126.
In Tech League 2 we had only 1 manage this (Eagling), Overall League Rank #2 is soured slightly by the inclusion of “tysons goldsack’s Team” who failed the basic’s of rule following drastically 🙁

Treloar, Rich, Bonts and Garlett all did well.
Daisy will go, possibly for a high scoring Rook cash cow or should I get a premium in…decisions, decisions.

Best was Brodie Smith (144), best kick in the AFL. Also good were Saad, Danger, Fyfe, the unlucky Parker, Heeney, CEY, Goldstein, Gray and Swan.
Poor were Pearce, Selwood, Cripps and Martin. Lost McIntosh and Vandenberg’s scores on the bench.

9 tons on the field, 1 on the bench (McIntosh). I wonder if McIntosh can pull off another big game vs the Doggies.

Had a couple of keeper players well under par (Dusty!), but avoided the injuries so not a bad result in the end. Happy I brought in Ablett at the 11th hour last week. I saw that game (go dees!), and he was well under prepared but still pulls 119. Amazing.

  23. 2014/ Fyfe / 40k

Happy overall as I had another 200 on the bench based on rookie choices and no injuries.

negatives were martin and wells. Both are long term picks and will pick up as the season progresses. Also McIntosh, Vandenburg, Heeney on the bench.

positives were rest of premiums got their 100 + and Bonts (last minute pick after a lot of thinking). Also Ablett getting a low one as I have set up for a price drop swap with him (no pre season so expect a poor start). Saved a lot of cash for it and the swapper had an excellent first game so right on target

  24. 1945/Fyfe/i don’t want to know.

    hero: Lewis….that is all

Villain: me. I talked up Treloar and McDonald in my reviews yet doubted the research and last minute traded them out along with Ollie Wines for Lumumba and Griffen, etc. The night is dark and filled with terrors.

Never done so well and truthfully, owe it to the collective wisdom of this site.
last year, you guys helped my avg up by about 70pts per rd….this year, I’ve already started 100pts up on last yrs first round…hope to maintain it. Thanks everyone.

    Heroes: Tex/Lewis/McIntosh/Rich

    Villains: Cripps/Salem/Dusty/Swallow/Newnes

I’m thinking of putting Salem on my bench instead of Hogan for next round, is that a good move

Also thinking of trading Swallow to Bontempelli as it gives me cash to play with over the next few weeks

  29. LoEC1(JJ’s Circus) 2011/Fyfe/41,000ish – worst start in 6 years and 300 down on round1last year. On the positive it shouldn’t get any worse.

Think I got a little sucked in by the pre season bolter syndrome despite the SCCTL team. Only 6 tons – Fyfe/P10/McI/GAJ/Gray/Goldi. Had 4 x 50s Cripps/Harry T/Salem/Dusty and left Heeney/Saad/Hogan on the bench.

Really expected better from (foolishly) Harry O/Goodes/Griffin/Neale (who’s score was hugely inflated by kicking the goal to put ’em in front)

SCCTL (Fixed Interest) 2115/Kennedy _ gonna leave team as is this week.

On a side note, my 14 YO son (Crows fan) got 2283 to sit in around 200 and boy has he let me know all about it!!!

Not at all what i had hoped for.

Villains: too many to mention, but I’d like to give a special salute to martin and selwood.

Heroes, not many. Led largely by my starting rookies (mcintosh, v’berg)

I stuffed up my math. Thought I had enough to downgrade Maric to lewie and upgrade Cripps to swan. Turns out I’m about 30k short. So I’ve gotta decide whether to still swap maric for lewie and either grab the Bont in my midfield, or burn a third trade next week to grab swannie. Just not sure he’s worth 3 trades.

Third option, trade maric to lewie and just sit on the cash for now

    Decisions decisions!

  31. Just heard from my partner, the lovely Rrrrrricho. She’s a Hawks supporter and so loaded her team up with the likes of Burgoyne (111), Gibson (108), Roughie (105), Cyril (98), and McEvoy (76). She left out GAJ. Here’s how she went:

  32. 1915/Pendles/a billion

Worst start ever in the modern era. Big failures in Lids, Griff, Newnes, Joelwood, Hibberd plus high scoring rookies left on the bench costing me about 200 points were instrumental in the calamity. Fair to say the trade button will be on fire the next couple of weeks. Only way is up from here. ????

First SC in 5yrs or more so pretty happy just a few newbie mistakes. Not putting mcintosh in, trusting my gut with rich instead of wells and making jlewis my VC loophole. Really looking forward to competing this year.

  34. 1870/Fyfe/…close to 100K…ughh..

Similar story to you Yiorgi. Joelwood, Martin, Goddard, Hibberd, Newnes all stunk, not to mention the crap rookie selections of T.Miller, Sheed & Goodes while leaving the likes of KMac, Vandenberg & CEY on the bench.
Only bit of respite was no injuries. Another week like this though & I may as well pack it in for the year already!

  35. DEMONS OF DARCH
    2,046/Fyfe/27,755

    The Superstars:
McIntosh, Sloane, Bontempelli & for there price I’ll add in Hogan, Clark, Heeney, Vandenberg, Saad, & CEY

    The Good:
Simpson, Ablett, Fyfe, Pendles, Beams, Nic Nat, Luey, Swan & Bennell

    The Bad:
My coaching, I lost 190 points because of bad bench decisions.
My defence, is anyone’s good? Simpson & Saad made 103 & 89, had McIntosh benched and then scores of 73/69/59/53.
Sheed & Cripps, for bigger bodied midfielders and more exspencive midfielders they just didn’t cut it.

    Desicion Time:
One more bad game from Hibberd and it could be a straight swap for Gibson or a cheaper overpreforming option in Hunt.

What a round can’t Believe Gaz didn’t lay a tackle gonna be very risky with him in my team now, so many under performing premos omg, plus i had Miller on field for Heneey which hurts
