Written by Motts on March 25 2012

1st game of Round 1 is run and won. Sydney not that impressive, GWS quite good. How did the players in your team go?

  1. rookies were quiet impressive, i had shiel on field and got subbed out with old mcdonald on bench dam!

  2. agreed, i had him as Captain in my SCTTL, i expected 110+ but i guess he only played a half arsed game.
but thats the risks we take.
oh well i guess ablett will be my captain from now on.

on another note i was very pleased the way GWS played, it seemed like they went hard at every contest, Bugg & Kennedy both on field rookies.

i know its a big call, but i reckon they will upset a few teams definitely have a lot more closer games than GWS did last year if they keep up the intensity.

disappointed that Parker got subbed off, but im not worried he will come good . 62 SC points in half a game is solid IMO.

  3. Had Mummy, Giles and Smith on the ground. Bugg and Kennedy as emergencies – looking at starting a non-scoring player to pick up their scores. Perhaps Lee Spurr in def and Couch/Dell’ollio in fwd

  4. pretty happy with my rookies that started in my 22 last night, kennedy, bugg, shiel, smith, cameron. Giles did well on my bench. goodes and mummy were a bit dissapointing but weren’t terrible.

What are your thoughts on J.Cameron? I’ve got him on my team, he started off pretty slow but then in the second half showed some good signs once he got around the ball more.

  5. Was tossing up prior to game between young Kennedy at GWS or Kerridge. settled on Kerridge and think I may have made an error. Kennedy was very good.
The rest of the GWS rookies are a fair way ahead of the Suns at same time last year and I wouldn’t mind betting they knock off the suns this season.

Terrible idea from god almighty Demetriou to make us all wait until next weekend form the rest of round one… I don’t get that at all.

  6. 7/ 551 projected score 2152
had a little bit of luck selecting which rookies should be in my starting line up . I know its only round 1 but some of the kids showed some good signs . I was a little bit worried having 7 gws players in my squad . It might come back and bite me when sheedy starts to throw his team around in the coming weeks .

    goodes 90
    a kennedy 104
    giles 88
    bugg 88

  7. Pretty stoked!

Def: Bugg 88, Mohr 86. Mid: McDonald 100, Shiel 34. Ruck: Giles 88 (bench). Fwd: Kennedy 104, Smith 55, Hampton 49 (bench). Also, I have Mumford 1st Ruck 96. Not a bad start..

Next week, I pose the question…

  8. Catta’s Clan
6/Gaz/451………A Kennedy on the bench & I’m hoping Magner doesnt play next week now, then I’ll put him on the ground & get Kennedy’s 104 as my (emg)!

As for GWS overall, apart from a 20 minute lapse of concentration in the 3rd quarter, for 80% of the game they seemed very competative & did extremly well! As for Sydney, quite a few of their players looked like they were going at 50-60%…..IMO they should have ran that game out in the last 1/4 & beaten GWS by 90 points.

GWS kids………Kennedy 28 touches, Bugg 27, Greene 27 & Giles 12 touches & 26 hit outs against the HUGE body of Mummy awesome effort! Special mentions Mohr, Hoskin-Elliot, Hombsch, Hampton & Smith.
GWS seniors…..Cornes 24 & 6 tackles, Palmer 25 & 7 tackles, Ward 22 & 7 tackles & JMac 23 touches incuding 6 tackles & a crunching shirt front that might just see him gone for 1-2, just thinking Parker getting subbed off won’t help his cause with the MRP. With plenty of big bodies to come back from injury, at full strengh & from what I saw of their kids last night…..I’m thinking GWS will be a lot more competitive that I thought before the game last night.

All in all, in was brilliant to have the footy back on & I cannot wait till next Thursday, Friday & the week-end as there will be some ripper games.

  11. Took a huge risk in Parker at M4. I’m such a newb!
Spewing I didn’t have Greene and had Bugg and McDonald on the bench.
FML….and it’s only the first game. This season is killing me already

  12. 6/547 – Shiel on instead of Kennedy (Last Minute decision) hurt. But all good for a proper look at them. Think Shiel will be the GWS Krakouer/Kermit until he gets a decent tank in him. Was blowing pretty hard right away and cramping when he come off. Would like to thank Sheedy for finally letting Mohr run off and get him in the play. Curtly Hampton should play more throught he middle. Toby Greene looked the goods. One thing that worried me was most of them looked flat footed at contests. Reckon If they got involved in those contests, Kennedy etc could have been up for some bigger scores. Good signs both for GWS and for our SC Rookies too.

  15. Herald sun all week been pluging supercoach on radio saying you can win $1000 a week and $50,000 overall. How can you if you can’t get into your team as their website had a meltdown? Subsequently my team was incomplete. Maybe I should’ve done it earlier but nonetheless it’s not acceptable HS. Go stick your digital pass up your a@@e.

  19. Shiels and D.Smith on the ground and McDonald, Giles, Cameron and Bugg on the bench. Oh well would have been better to have McDonald and Bugg on the ground but they are the breaks. Glad I only made mummy the vice captain. Ablett all the way for captain.

  20. I lke the “Match Centre” set-up this year! I think it is only showing our ‘unique’ players according to the team we are versing… obviously it is showing us all our players now because we aren’t versing anyone! But I think it will be great!

  22. 441/6/GAJ

Tried the loophole with Goodes but it didn’t quite work out how I’d like so here’s hoping Ablett does his usual against the Crows.

No tons as yet but some very good scores from the GWS backline rookies and Giles in the ruck with the 1-0-3 strategy half working out so far.

Did anyone else go with the Sam Rowe/David Hale combination in the RUCK/FWD’s as per Tippett and Petrie last season?

  24. 443/5/GAJ

    Mumford, Bugg, D.Smith, Kennedy, McDonald

    Bench: Giles, Shiel

Liked what I saw from my rookies last night and I thought Shiel looked excellent in the first quarter. I seem like I’m the only one happy with big Mummy. Thought he played rather poorly, getting pushed around by Giles and looked disinterested, yet still pocketed a more than serviceable 96. Imagine what he’ll get when he gets hungry for the footy!

  25. I posted in the wrong section this morning.

    236/4/NDS

Despite the crap score I think I can make peace with it. Had Bugg, Shiel, Coniglio and Devon Smith on ground. Had the emergency on Kennedy for the giants, if Cripps doesn’t play at least I have that up my sleeve.

Reports coming in from twitter that both Saad and Milera have had solid games for the Zebs. We’re leading comfortably over Box Hill. Milera was seen limping from the ground though. Beau Wilkes has kicked 3 goals too, has looked damaging. I thought he will play in Dawson’s role? No Siposs, Ledger, Cripps, Stanley or Winmar… so I’m tipping Cripps at least to play next week.

  28. Ok guys need some help.

    Premiums in each position:

    backs: 3
    Mids: 4
    Rucks: 1
    Fwds: 4

Got enough cash to get one more premium under $550K
What position should i get another one in? i’m pretty happy with the set up of my back and forward premiums and rookies, the 1:0:3 ruck option looks like it may work well this season. So i’m thinking another premium mid? like bartel, cotchin, montagna, etc.

    what are you thoughts?

    thumbs up- Get a midfielder
thumbs down- Different position (comment what position you think and a player)

  30. Anyone notice you can go around the grounds in the sc app? It tells you what everyone in your league has scored? Logged on using safari and you can’t see that using the site. Does not tell you how many players they have used, only their score. Is it on the main site and I just can’t see it- or??

  32. Quick one…

    Thumbs Up: Shuey & Sidebottom

    Thumbs Down: Murphy & Gaff

I think I like Gaff cos he wont be wearing the green vest this year and in the full games he played last year he scored really well.

  36. Think that Daniel Azzopardi & flannigan’s ball are both not doing too well after they both stupidly tipped GWS to beat Sydney in the SCTalk footy tipping comp.

  37. Shiel got the red vest. Mohr and bugg look like great picks. McDonald should get enough pts to go up in value. Those who went one premium ruck will be laughing. I’m not though. I foolishly put despite-his-height-I-hardly-saw-him-do-anything mumford as captain. Slow start to the season for me. I bet ablett scores close to 200 against Adelaide again as well, just to vinegar my wounds

  39. pretty happy with Kieran Jacks effort….have a unique looking midfield with him and jack redden so i hope he can keep that form up….stuffed up my rooks selection having the GWS guys on the pine…but their $$$ sure to go up so not totally dissapointed…..tis only earliy days

  40. Still not sold on Dangerfield in M4 at the moment, but I can’t really settle on a replacement. However, I think I may have found a valid option:

    Thumbs Up: Dangerfield (M4) / Kreuzer (R2)
Thumbs Down: Porp (M4) / Cox (R1/2 with Mummy)

Will Porp and Dangerfield score similarly, or near enough that Kreuzer -> Cox will offset the difference?
