I have a very specific goal this year. I’ve been in a league with my mates the last few years and there’s this one cocky, arrogant little SOB who manages to beat me every year. I had him beat in the prelim last year until a certain spiky haired demon who shall not be named pulled out at the last minute and I lost by 7 points!
My goal this year is to finally beat the b@stard!!
Great goal! I know exactly how you feel. Except I’ve been beaten by under 10 points by this one guy twice a year for the last 3 years. I’m not ashamed to say I’ve been left emotionally scarred by the experience.
I have a lsit of players i want later in the year: B delidio, C judd, B gibbs and D thomas. I also want these players in my supercoach team! ( See what i did there?)
Let me guess that “very little influence” is another way of saying “no influence” – did you do minor variations of you main team, or whole new teams ?? 🙂 Not to be pedantic, but “son” and “wife” are both common nouns not proper nouns and hence should not be capitalised.
Thanks Stevo
My 8yo son reminded me of the correct definition of proper/pro/common nouns and their capitalisation application only minutes after making the post but I was hoping that I was holding the seam correctly for it to pass by Motts’ straight bat to Gilly!
Now….shall we talk about metaphors?
My “Son” and “Wife” have also entered SC teams and by the look of their players they are obviously going for the brick in Rds 4 and 6 respectively.
Why are your Son and Wife (1) capitalised and (2) in inverted commas?

And now he baits me on my own website 🙁
Capitalised because they are proper nouns and in inverted commas because they had very little influence on the makeup of the teams.
Ah, now Motts understands. Brilliant.
Yes that’s a bit worse than being baited on the psyche out!
But I’m also a saints supporter so my emotional scars run deep!!

Theres a thread over at fanfooty where if you post your team name they can look it up. Cant remember exactly where it was though.
