I Spy With My Little Eye

by Duck on February 18, 2011

Week 2 of the NAB Cup rolls around and tonight we have Essendon, Brisbane and Saint Kilda playing.

Who are you looking at, who needs to impress for selection and who’s head’s on the chopping block if they don’t perform?

The Cashcow reckons ….. Dyson Heppell, Michael Hibberd, Claye Beams, Jared Polec, Tommy Walsh and Jamie Cripps are worth a look.

Looking out for Hurley, Cripps, Heppell, Adcock, Montagna, Riewoldt and Gilbert.
I’m also hoping Essendon at least beat Brisbane. As a Essendon supporter I am praying that Hirdy has done a good job with the boys.

Definitely Heppell and Hibberd (in particular Hibberd after the article I read in the Hun during the week with Hird’s praise for him) from the Dons. Hurley too, but to a much lesser extent. Mark Williams would have to have an ‘out of this world’ weekend to even consider him for mine.

Brisbane is Beams for sure. I’m also interested to see if anyone out of the ordinary spends a lot more time in the midfield with the changes from 2010.

St Kilda is not all that interesting to me. Tommy Walsh, but not really from a fantasy footy viewpoint, just interested after Goddard’s comments on him this week.

Does anyone fancy Mark McVeigh for 342?
Remember when he was a premium midfielder? After an injury in 2009 he came back but never really looked comfortable playing across the half back line last year. Maybe it just took sometime getting used to and he’ll star again. Or maybe under Hird he’ll get a serious run in the guts and get some good ball.
Thoughts?

Went to the game tonight ..

Interesting to observe Mitch Clark playing as backmen

Didn’t get much from it in fantasy realms other than confirming the obvious that Joey and BJ will be SC gold. They didn’t try tonight and they still oozed class.

I know they played last week, but…

Cameron Bruce, anyone?

Will he play? Will he play often? Averaged high 90′s last year and is $490K.

Has been a player you can bank on in previous years but how will he go at the new club?

David Armitage seems like he might be a nice pick. (Although he does most pre seasons) If he can hold his spot at his price he might be a nice 4th/5th mid…

Not much has changed in the St Kilda midfield since last year Mark – he’s still going to have to find a spot behind Joey, Dal, Lenny, Ray, Peake even Godds. Didn’t get a game during last year’s finals….I’m passing.

Thanks Motts, is the general feeling that Enright is past it?
I’ve got Enright, but, am leaning towards Grimes to free up a few dollars to bring in Murphy. I think he’s gonna have a huge year and become one of the best couple of mids in this game.

And just on KD, how stinky is Ricky Nixon? Taking advantage of a chick at her lowest ebb. The guy is scum. Hope all his clients leave him.

Don’t worry, by the end of the week the AFL/HS/Nixon will have us believe that she took advantage of him and he is the victim in all this. Already begun with the “stolen” credit card details to fund a flight to NZ. How ironic that the Saints are paying for the accommodation where he was conducting his “inappropriate” business.
Tricky Ricky must have thought all his Xmas had come at once ’cause that’s a head only a Mother could love. That’s what happens when decisions are made with the little head and not the big head!

As I’m sure you all saw, Mark Williams was the hero last night and i think that may just give him the confidence to play the really good football we all know he’s capable of. For 230 he could be a serious steal this season.
Thoughts?
