Ideal Team – DEF

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 24 2017

While we wait for Rd5 to finish up, now is the perfect time to reflect upon your perfect team – your ‘Ideal 22′.  We ran similar polls before Christmas last year, but there have been a few changes in the pecking order, I’m sure.

Over the next two days, we’ll be running polls to determine which final Supercoach line-up everyone is aiming for.  There are plenty of ways to ask the question (highest avg, pts scored from Rd1, etc), but I’ll settle on this one………….’Which DEFs do you ideally want to see in your side at the end of the season?‘……..you have SIX choices (players are in order of their current avg after Rd4).  You can always share your best six DEFs with us in the comments below……….

Which SIX Defenders do you want in your team by seasons end?

  1. Tough to say at the moment. I reckon there are 4 absolute must-haves:
Taylor Adams, Sam Docherty, Rory Laird and Heath Shaw are all absolute guns. I can see Doc and Laird in my DEF for many years to come. Shaw will come good, I’ll look to bring him in shortly at a discount.

The last 3 remain unclear. I would probably say J. Howe in at the moment. Personally having Pendles, Adams, Treloar, WHE and then Howe and even possibly Grundy might be too many pies. (GO PIES!)

I don’t think you can go wrong with any 2 of Montagna, Simpson, JJ and or Rance.

  2. Started with Laird, Shaw, Adams & Lloyd. Will be looking at Docherty & Johannisen as my final 2 upgrades in DEF.

  3. Started with Docherty, Laird and Howe.

Adams is a must have and then I’ll pick up Shaw and one other bargain defender (Lloyd, Montagna, Rance, JJ, Simpson – will all get the job done for the right price)

With the way Otten/Marchbank and now with 103 rolling through Hamptons average, upgrading this line shouldn’t be too painful.

    1. He’s been amazing but won’t happen – he’s gone from my side as soon as he stops making money before their bye

  4. Shaw is a ? For me. It was shown last year if teams put a forward tagged on him his scores suffer considerably. Jury out for me on him…

  5. I’m in the minority, but I’m having trouble seeing Shaw as a top 6 defender right now. He doesn’t seem to be involved in the switches as often as he was, and there were times on Saturday night where he looked like he was struggling to keep up.
He’ll be very cheap in a couple of weeks time, and I hope I’m wrong, but I’m looking elsewhere right now.

  6. Currently have Shaw, Laird & Doch. Taylor looks like a definite target. The final two places will be better judged later in the season when the men have been sifted out from the boys a bit. I am confident that Shaw will pick up and pump out some consistently good scores.

  7. I have Shaw. Doc and Laird.

Last 3 spots are for Adams and two of Rance, Simpson, Roberton and JJ.

I really like the look of Roberton as a POD.

Who I end up with will depend on price and form.

If and its a big if. Otten keeps up this average I will save a trade and keep him at D6.
