I'm Excited

Written by Motts on April 16 2010

The boys are lining up for battle against an opposition for the first time in 2010 this round. I’ve gone over my team about 50 times already but just can’t stop looking at it.

Who else is excited?

  1. i am, first up im versing a mate from TAFE who has an average very close to mine, it should be a close match….i regain heath shaw but lose buddy, i reckon i will need a 2200 + to win this week, wish me luck!! lol

  2. Can’t Wait Mottsy….. but dilema has kicked in. Shuey was left out (unexpected for me), Dangerfield was named, but may not play, Franklin has a one week rest, Moore can’t get another run, and Banner is on the extended bench, so who knows what to do. Trying to save trades, and may end up giving a doughnut to my opposition…… If I don’t give up a doughnut, I’ll be happy.

    1. Nothing wrong with a round 1 doughnut Big Sexy. Its all about the pinty end and ensuring you are firing when it counts. As you know trades are gold. Save em and reap the rewards later.

      1. Yeah boyz, i can hopefully wear a Doughnut…. but finished swapping Dangerfied into my midfield and have Banner as an emergency, so should be ok….. unless Brisy Boy is right and JB doesn’t play…. I drafted him for Riewoldt about an hour ago.

        1. JB will play Big Sexy. Banner aint much of an emergency but better than a poke in the eye with a stick mate. Dangerfield I think is unlikely to play and could well be worth trading. I still think a zero can be brave and probably warranted week one…until the dust settles. What is the calibre of the opposition this week BS?

          1. I’m in the same boat this week BS. Agonising over whether or not to waste a trade or ride the wave of a zero scoring player.

As stupid as it is, Graham Polak getting a game is my biggest hope of getting 22 scoring players this week! Midfield and Backline ommisions/suspensions/injuries may take their toll this week.

            Lucky it’s a marathon…..

        2. I brought Bastinac off the bench and left Danger as an emergency. My big decision is do I keep Schonemakers or trade him (with my 156k balance) for an upgrade, or even swap him out for Silvagni? What do you guys think?

      2. peter, pinty should be spelled as pointy, you did the same mistake when you answered your own post as Mickey M, that’s just sad and to top it off you answered it back as peter, Christ kid your a weirdo.

  3. I feel a bit lucky in that the guy i am playing has averaged a touch better than me but this week his outs are ROO, Buddy, Clarke, Connors, Shuey, and maybe Dangerfield. If he still beats me i will be quite annoyed!

        1. Definately Rioli has a sore groin according to afl.com. Will those that traded him in this week get burned down the track?

  5. I’m keen fellas. I need to shuffle a few lads from the pine into the starting side and, I still have the Roo dilemma however after some input from my assistant coaches, messrs James Boag and Carlton Draught, I am going to just stick roo on the bench and save a trade at this stage in the hope the performers and youngsters given the nod to play will show-up on game day. The bloke I am playing has a decent side however, he has been hurt by omissions and injuries. A light night on the track last night and I am sure the lads are cherry ripe for the first head-to-head. bring it on.

  6. I’m just tinkering with my side, fairly confident and have become aware of an opportunity. I could offload Pendlebury and with cash reserves could purchase one Son Of God and end up with change. Am I onto something here or should I just sit tight. Currently have a sound backline, forwards a little light with Roo on my bench and a midfield consisting: Bartel, Gilbee, Higgins, Pendlebury, Martin, Trengive with reserves Barlow and Morabito. What the thoughts Motts?

      1. I’ve done the same thing this week. If Jones does the same kind of job on Barlow that he did on Harvey a couple of weeks ago his score will suffer. Barlow had Ling on him last week and he scored 50 odd. Richmond are playing Melbourne – Martin is starting to look real good, as is Trengove. Both will be keen to impress this week against substandard competition.

        0

        0
      2. I reckon they’ll target him with a hard tag. He’s provided a heap of run with some nice in-close disposals to set-up inside 50’s. Just not sure whether Jones will go to Haselby or Barlow and I’m thinking Barlow considering his form and effectiveness. To be honest, i’ll play with the side a Gazzilion times before kick-off so just throwing it out there…

    1. If you want Gablett you’re going to need to trade a premium to get him. Pendles hasn’t started the year all that well so he’s as good an option as any.

  7. I’m up against Goosey this week ….. unlike other years i expect to be very competitive this year. Time will tell.

  8. ok i did the trade:
    OUT: Roo IN: Pav
    OUT: Tippett IN: Kreuzer
with 20k change. wanted sandilands but Kreuzer apart from last week has been ripping it up. Big round this week boys get around me

      1. you got jamar? why? he has never played a full season in his whole 9 year career…and in that time he hasnt been a high scorer….no offence magoo but IMO that was a waste of a trade….

  9. I have thought long and hard about my Riewoldt replacement over the week, but am still tossing up between Chapman and Pavlich.
Absolutely love Paul Chapman and would be great to have another Geelong player as they seem to rake in the points, but my only concerns are that his questionable hamstrings could go at any given time and that getting him over Pavlich doesn’t allow me to save the extra coin for a future midfield upgrade… possibly Luke Ball -> Gary Ablett.

If I buy Pavlich then I do have sufficient cash to do the Ball/Ablett trade at this point in time, but hopefully GAJ depreciates in price a little as well in the coming weeks, which was my anticipation in not buying him at the start of the season.

Chappy, Pavlich or another lower priced alternative ie. Jared Brennen/Shaun Higgins

    1. Considering my current forward stands as:
Brown, O’Keefe, Riewoldt, Hall, Medhurst, Franklin, Gray
      Gumbleton, Hitchcock.

    2. my opinions are as follows:
      – i did a trade riewoldt for chapman- even though he misses a few games a year, he will play the majority of the season, and he is a bloody high scorer, so he is in for me
      – i dont think u should get pav and ablett this week, i reckon get chapman, save the other trade, because Ball DOMINATES against hawthorn, and wait for abletts price to drop.

so thats my 2 cents worth lol i hope i havent made it harder for u lol good luck MJ

  10. I’d go Pav over Chappy just coz of the hammy factor. But I’ve been saying it all year, i think boomer harvey is great value this year. I know he scored 11 against the saints but he isn’t going to cop a clint jones tag every week. His other two scores were 110 & 176. Avg: 109 in 2007 & 112 in 2008. Has played 22 of 22 every year from ’05 to ’08 and in ’09 when he freakishly dislocated his elbow he only missed 7 games. Scored 169 the game before the elbow injury, scored 0 the game he got injured (which brought his price/avg down massively), then scored 114 the game he returned from injury. He is a gun!

  11. Need help with who to include:
    1) Rockcliff or Gumbleton
    2) Maguire or Waters
    3) Barlow or Bastinac
    4) Bartel or ROK

—> Who to trade for Riewoldt?-Higgins or Rioli?

Good luck to everyone in their first game

    1. I’ve already ruled out both Higgins and Rioli for my Riewoldt trade because of their injury histories. Rioli’s OP is a particularly difficult injury to recover from.

  12. I’m in three different leagues again this year after winning all three last year. The only difference is that one league is a $50 league, one is a $20 league and the other one is just for fun. So there’s a lot on the line for me this year. A reputation to withhold and a heap of cash at then end of the rainbow!!! I’m quite nervous this year because i know that everybody else will be even keener than last year and better at it as well. Can’t wait till Sunday night when all the results are posted and the ladder starts taking effect!!! Oh yeah and good luck to you all.

      1. Averaged 2208 over the first three rounds, but that’s after scoring 2427 in Round 1. Had tippet weighing me down, harvey scored that 11 and made roo capt last week so they all hurt, but other than that pretty happy with everything else. Sitting ranked 1st, 2nd and 2nd by total points in the three respective leagues that i’m in this year. So i’ve had a reasonable start. How are you doing? Any cash leagues?

        0

        0
          1. Yeah, the $50 one is between friends, although there’s a couple of the “coaches” that i haven’t actually met as they’re friends of friends. So the pool is $800, winner gets $500, 2nd place gets $150 and winner of minor premiership (9th) gets $150. Makes the minor premiership a bit more interesting too.

The other cash league is the glen waverly cricket club one with marc murphy’s brother leigh (gun at cricket). Leigh’s just behind me in third spot. Only $20 each and not exactly sure of the final prizes for that one. $250, 50 & 20 i think.

  13. Hey Motts (and everyone else),

I decided to go against your advice Motts – Purely to free up some money for next week. I am playing my boss, and he has been the most vocal in ridiculing me ~ EVEN THOUGH my average score is, like 300 points higher (I know you are reading this Tim!)

I decided to trade out Nic Riewoldt for Matt Pavlich and trade out Lance Franklin for Cyril Rioli.

My forward line now looks like this:
    O’Keefe / Pavlich / Higgins / Rioli / Dangerfield / Medhurst / Ziebell
    (Emergencies: J.Pod and Rockliff)

I have now freed up $123,200, which I hope to use in a huge upgrade to my mid-field… more on that later.

Let me know what you think.

Good luck for the upcoming round everybody.

    See ya,
    Leesa.

    1. thats a nicely balanced forward line should do well for you. 5 dpp’s suggests that maybe a couple of them could have been selected in the midfield to give you flexibility.. good luck

      1. Tim, if you’re reading this, I hope you lose BADLY to Leesa. She has a ripper forward line and just quietly, I reckon you’re in trouble mate.

Leesa, can’t wait to hear the result. Good luck!

        1. i am reading this leesa, and the fact that you are wanting to beat your humble boss, i find it… admirable.

pass your first test this week, then we will talk turkey! as I have said before, the first three rounds count for nothing. it is, in reality, supercoach’s version of the nab cup.

yes you have had good, no, great scores. you also may be sitting second on the ladder, but…. the real game starts now.

all the best my little protรฉgรฉe.

(and we will be posting our scores in two weeks, to prove who is supreme).

(motts – btw, cheers mate to a great site. keep up the great work)

  14. Thanks guys, winning now does not seem as scary. FYI The remainder of my team is as follows:

    Goddard / Enright / Hodge / Kennelley / Hunt / Waters / Maguire
(Emergencies: Silvagni (Selected Emergency) / Nason)

    Abblett (Captain) / Swan / Gibbs / Cooney / Barlow / Trengove
(Emergencies: Martin (Selected Emergency) / Banner)

    Sandilands / Natanui
    (Emergencies: Warnock / Lobbe)

    Oโ€™Keefe / Pavlich / Higgins / Rioli / Dangerfield / Medhurst / Ziebell
(Emergencies: J.Pod (Selected Emergency) / Rockliff)

I still have $123,200, which I may use to bring in Harvey in my forward line or even replace Gibbs with Motagna (soooo many choices)

I am also still wondering what rookies to play, may switch Barlow with Martin??

Hopefully I score well – I would love 2,200 this week. Anyway good luck to you both, hope you both get wins over the weekend.

    See ya,
    Leesa

      1. Hi Motts,

Yep, that is my little old team. I’m glad you think its good :)Currently my average score is 2,255 ~ not bad for my first time… I think.

What do you think of my ideas for trade-ups? Do you think I am being a little too hasty (i.e. upgrading Gibbs so soon to Montagna?), or should I sit on the cash, for those troubled times through the season. I know you are a blues man, so you would probably frown on the idea ๐Ÿ™‚

PS – I just swapped Barlow for Martin, on the ground (fingers crossed ot pays off. This game is so addictive)

        See ya,
        Leesa

        1. Motts took Barlow off for Martin this week so Motts approves ๐Ÿ™‚

As you suspected, I’m not sure about the Gibbs trade. That kid has just got so much talent and his delivery is something else – I just think he’s going to get better and better. And I just think Montagna is a little overpriced right now. But hey, you’re averaging 2255 so who am I to judge, hey?

          1. For the record I made 2 trades this week:

            Roo for Petersen
            Banner for Pavlich

I then switched Pav into the frontline for Higgins for neatness’ sake so the team now reads:

Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Gram, Waters, Kennelly, Hunt (Silvagni, Nason)
GAJ, Joel, Bryce, Higgins, Martin, Trengove (Bastinac, Barlow)
            Krooz, Nic Nat (Warnock, Lobbe)
ROK, JB, Pav, Gia, JZ, Petersen, Pods (Waite, Hitchcock)

This team WILL win me victories in 3 leagues this week.
