Higgins underwent surgery on Tuesday after hurting his AC joint in the opening minutes of Saturday’s victory over Gold Coast. There is less known about Hall‘s status after an awkward landing on his left leg in the VFL. Macmillan was ruled out last week, but should be in contention for Sunday’s clash with the Giants. Tyson and Wright are set to return after next week’s bye. – Marc McGowan

Ebert has been given the all clear to resume playing after travelling to Melbourne on Tuesday to visit a neurologist. The 29-year-old hasn’t played since round seven due to concussion symptoms. He will likely return through the SANFL. Rockliff will be assessed this week after he was ruled out of Port’s round 11 win against St Kilda in China with a hamstring injury. – Lee Gaskin

Richmond’s injury list is now at an equal season-high of 12 players, seven of whom played in the 2017 flag as well as first-choice player Short. Martin and Vlastuin need to get through training this week, while Brandon Ellis (groin) is available. With the bye next week Astbury and Lambert will be held out for at least another match to give them a solid break. Short is now running without his elbow brace. – Sarah Black. |

Steven made an appearance at training on Tuesday, but there’s no expectation from the club on when he’ll be ready to play. Carlisle could feature for Sandringham this week if he trains well. The ill Saints from the trip to China – Blake Acres, Daniel McKenzie and Jonathon Marsh – are all right to go. – Dinny Navaratnam |

The Swans picked up three injuries during their big win over West Coast, but O’Riordan, McVeigh and Thurlow are all expected to benefit from the bye. Hayward was a late withdrawal with a minor calf strain suffered at training. The club will update its injury list later this week, given it’s a bye round. – Sarah Black

Early prognosis

The Eagles won’t update their injury list until early next week but expect Naitanui to play after the bye, either for the WAFL side at East Fremantle Oval or in a blockbuster Thursday night return against Essendon. Yeo‘s calf and Allen‘s ankle are concerning and there are no official timeframes for their comebacks yet, however Hurn should be back to face the Bombers after a minor hamstring strain. – Travis King

Experienced trio Crozier, Duryea and Morris could all return to bolster an under-siege defence, while midfielder Wallis may also resume. Forward Schache suffered delayed concussion symptoms in the VFL, while Greene dislocated his shoulder. Webb is set to miss an extended period after a training mishap in which he suffered an ankle syndesmosis injury and a fractured fibula. – Ben Collins

*Placed on the club’s long-term injury list
Whitfield estimated “2 – 3 weeks”.
Worth considering a hold or is 2 – 3 too generous an estimate?
Yes is worth consideration. Initially I was going to hold but traded to H Andrews to free up cash to help allow future trades.
Precedence by players in the competition over the past 1-2 years suffering the same or similar injury is between the 2 to 4 week period.
Unsure on the severity as the initial diagnosis at the time of occurrence was a stinger and he was rested for the remainder of the match as a precautionary measure as it was nonsensical to allow him to return to the field.
Also was mentioned on the GWS website in 1 of the articles that the doctor struggled to get a read/diagnose as it wasn’t a traditional clavicle and was in a weird spot.
Surprised last week with everyone insinuating or suggesting that it would 6-8 weeks. Whilst they’ve displayed a tendency to be conservative and patient with injuries in recent time I’d assume it’s more likely he returns between the RD15-Rd17 period rather than the Rd18-20 others were suggesting.
It is GWS remember…
Giving some thought to keeping one of Lockhart or Answerth so I can use Duursma as a D7/M9.
Lockhart currently out of the Dees team but was BOG for Casey on the weekend. Answerth currently in Lions team but I see above that Bailey is only one week away.
Which one should I trade this week?
TU – Lockhart
TD – Answerth
Comment – trade both
Definitely Answerth as he likely won’t make more than $12k now before Rd17. There are better options if you didn’t go early.
Both, if you need the numbers onfield this week and again you can replace one of them with a genuine premo who had the R12 bye, or have another playing rookie option and build your bank for a double upgrade next week.
Good luck
Thanks AS. But looks like I’ll need to do both now with the news about Stocker. Only way I’ll be able to field 18.
G’day all. First timer on here. Great site!
Don’t think it’s that cut and dried, personally. Both averaging the same, Lockhart BE 71, Answerth 37.
You’re relying on Lockhart to get named and Answerth to get dropped. Bird in the hand (player already in the side)?
I hear you DD, but if there’s a rookie available with decent JS, eg Bewley, then there’ll likely make more money in a week than Answerth will in a month.
Cash generation remains a critical aspect when it comes to covering injured premos later on in the piece.
Yeah understand that, just comparing them if only trading one, as I am. Got to punt Clark and want to keep one of Answerth and Lockhart to DPP with Duursma.
If Carlisle is back playing VFL for Sandringham this week (likely) then that’s great news for the Saints second half of the season. Jack Steven was at training this week too.
Not SC-relevant, but had to share 😉
