Bennell pulled up well from his first game in 16 months after repeated calf issues and trained on Tuesday, with an expectation he will appear for Peel again this weekend. Youngsters Ryan and Cox were not considered for senior selection this week after breaking club protocol and drinking ahead of a six-day break. The Dockers have officially ruled out young key defender Alex Pearce for the season after he suffered a setback with his broken leg suffered in January. Puopolo appears set to return for the round 20 clash against Richmond, while O’Meara is now back in full training and will also play some games before the end of the season. Gibson is starting back with skills training again and is on track to play what could be a farewell game before the end of the season. Don’t expect to see Birchall, Rioli and Frawley again this year; they’re running, but the language out of the Hawks suggests they’re likely to be placed in cotton wool until the pre-season. Freeman will miss at least a couple of weeks after a teammate fell into his right ankle in the VFL last Saturday. Gilbert trained away from the main group on Tuesday after surgery for a knuckle in his right hand that popped out against Essendon in round 17.
