Knight and Kelly are in doubt for Sunday’s crucial encounter with the Western Bulldogs at Ballarat. Knight was a late scratching from last weekend’s loss to Collingwood with hip soreness, while Kelly copped a knock to his shin and finished the game on the bench. Ellis-Yolmen has been ruled out for the rest of the year with bone and tendon issues limiting his progression from a shin injury. The big-bodied midfielder hasn’t played since round 13. – Lee Gaskin

De Goey and Aish will target the Pies’ first final, while Wells and Sier appear set to return in the VFL. Quaynor still seems some time away and Kelly is also being managed conservatively, while Reid faces an uphill battle to play again this season. The suspended Stephenson will be available at finals time but the campaign is over for Cox, Langdon, Beams and Dunn. – Ben Collins

Early prognosis

The return of Bellchambers after his calf injury is particularly timely given Clarke will be off his feet for a couple of weeks with bone stress in his fibula. Hooker is also expected back after missing last week with a groin injury. Zaharakis underwent surgery and is unlikely to be available for the rest of the season, even if the Bombers went deep into September, while first-year Bombers Mosquito (hamstring) and Gown (foot) have had surgery on their issues.  Callum Twomey

Clark’s quickest possible return will be in the first final, while Fogarty is more likely to overcome his hamstring for the first VFL final during the AFL pre-finals bye. Rohan trained on Tuesday with a decision on his availability to come later in the week, likely to be through the VFL if cleared. Cockatoo has now missed the past fortnight with hamstring tightness but the Cats are hopeful he can play VFL this weekend.  Updated: Tuesday, August 20

Early prognosis

Max Gawn (hamstring) and Jordan Lewis (corked shin) are right to go after minor incidents last round. The club is yet to confirm if Oscar McDonald and Petty are fit to play after missing last week. Unfortunately, it’s one and done for debutant Chandler, who fractured his finger during his first AFL match, but played out the game. Weideman has now had surgery on both hips, with the aim of re-joining the main group in December. VFL side Casey is still a chance to make finals if results go its way, with Sparrow the only one who could return. Sarah Black

Anderson‘s latest hamstring setback is likely to sideline him from the Roos’ season finale against Melbourne, while last week’s late withdrawal, Ahern, is in some doubt as well. However, they are confident Tarrant will make the trip to Hobart. Tyson‘s horror first season in blue and white is over after sustaining a shoulder injury in just his second VFL game back from a persistent calf problem. First-year forward Taylor also won’t be seen again in 2019, after missing the past fortnight’s matches. – Marc McGowan

    1. Everyone with trades want Gawn to miss, everyone without trades want Gawn to play. I form part of the latter.

Personally I don’t know how anyone has survived this far and still has trades left to spend.

      1. I have one left having run out at Rd17 last year!
Was more careful this year, but also realised that going for overall at about Rd16 would be a thankless task. Focus then switched to finals and retaining trades for this type of scenario.
One thing I will say is it hasn’t been as much fun!
To be honest, having between $500k-$1.2mn. of premo value sitting on my bench EVERY week for 17 straight weeks (Rds5-21 incl.) has simply annoyed the fu3k out of me. 🙂
I may have found a way to combat this to an extent next year, but a lot of it will of course simply remain down to our luck with injuries.

      2. Well, i realised last night that i had neglected the team that my wife made for SCTalk league (as i didn’t make the finals in that league, so gave up looking at it) but i did make it thru in the public league, still won last week somehow, still have 5 trades and $420k itb – trying to figure how i can transfer that across to my main team!

      3. According to Afl.com.au he is right to go? Or do they still rest him to avoid any risk and give Preussy a run?
