Injury

Estimated Return

 Tom Doedee  Knee  Season

 Sam Jacobs  Knee  Test
 Shane McAdam  Calf  2-3 weeks
 Andrew McPherson  Hamstring  1-2 weeks
 Paul Seedsman  Knee  4-8 weeks
 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Seedsman could be back in as little as a month after suffering bone bruising to his knee in last week’s loss to Geelong. It’s a much better diagnosis than the initial thought of a torn ACL. Jacobs is a 50/50 chance to play against North Melbourne on Saturday night, but he’s more likely to return from a knee injury in round five.  Lee Gaskin

BRISBANE

The Blues will wait on fitness tests for ruck duo Kreuzer and Phillips this week, while forwards McGovern and Curnow are an outside chance to play the Suns. In good news, Lang, Macreadie and Williamson will return over the next fortnight after battling injuries throughout the summer. – Riley Beveridge

COLLINGWOOD

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Lynden Dunn  Knee  Season
 Will Hoskin-Elliott  Knee  4-5 weeks
 Will Kelly  Ankle  1-2 weeks
 Darcy Moore  Ankle  TBC
 Nathan Murphy  Ankle  TBC
Sam Murray  Provisional ASADA suspension  TBC
 Brayden Sier  Rib  TBC
 Matt Scharenberg  Knee  8 weeks
 Daniel Wells  Foot  Test
 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Moore rolled an ankle in the loss to West Coast but played out the game so he should be fine to face the Western Bulldogs, despite the six-day break. Wells appears set to make his long-awaited comeback via the VFL and father-son Will Kelly is perhaps just a week away. The news isn’t as good for Murphy, who had just returned from a left calf problem when he suffered a right ankle injury. A non-starter in the VFL was Sier, who left the track early on Thursday as he battled a rib injury that affected his breathing. Hoskin-Elliott‘s recovery is slower than expected, and a longer-term view will be taken with Scharenberg as he makes his way back from a third knee reconstruction, but the season seems over for veteran Dunn after a second anterior cruciate ligament rupture in nine months. – Ben Collins

ESSENDON

 Joe Daniher  Calf  1 week
 Cale Hooker  Calf  1 week
 Jayden Laverde  Ankle  1 week

 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Essendon will lose McKernan and Mutch to long stints on the sidelines with their hamstring tears from last week. But the club is hopeful of regaining Hooker from his calf injury, after he was close to returning last week against Melbourne. Daniher will train on Wednesday with the main group and could be available next week.   Callum Twomey

 Shane Kersten  Foot  TBC
 Griffin Logue  Hamstring  3 weeks

 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Fyfe’s sickening head clash has left him in serious doubt for the Western Derby, while young ruckman Darcy should be fit to put his hand up to return after battling a corked quad. Blakely is slightly ahead of schedule and has been running strongly in the rehab group recently. – Travis King

GEELONG

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Jed Bews  Groin  1-3 weeks
 Nakia Cockatoo  Adductor/hamstring  Indefinite
 Jordan Cunico  Ankle  12-16 weeks

 Tim Kelly  Ankle  Test
 Mark O’Connor  Hip  Test
 Scott Selwood  Hamstring  1-2 weeks
 Zach Tuohy  Knee  Test
 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Kelly will need to prove his fitness at training after suffering a low-grade ankle sprain in the win over Adelaide. Walking freely, the nine-day break will assist his chances. Henry comes back into the thinking after a minor hamstring complaint, while O’Connor is expected to overcome a corked hip. Tuohy is considered a chance to play VFL, however the Cats will think about training him for longer so he can walk into the AFL side. Cunico has undergone an ankle reconstruction after a fracture in the VFL, but the club is hopeful he can again feature this season. After three weeks out, Guthrie will likely return via the VFL. Mitch Cleary

 Izak Rankine  Hamstring  2-4 weeks
 Josh Schoenfeld  Ankle  Test
 Rory Thompson  Knee  Season
 Harrison Wigg  Knee  Season
 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Finally a bit of relief for the Suns with a few players set to come back through the NEAFL. Corbett, Schoenfeld and Fletcher should all play their first games, while Horlin-Smith’s back problem has lingered for another week.  Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Co-captain Callan Ward (knee) has been declared a certain starter but Greene will have to train well on Wednesday in a bid to prove he’s ready to take on Geelong on Saturday afternoon. Deledio will likely have to find another training regime to try and get on top of his persistent calf issues, while Sheridan will also miss the next month. – Adam Curley

 Jarryd Roughead  Corked thigh  Test
 Liam Shiels  Hamstring  2-3 weeks
 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Jaeger O’Meara (hip) and Luke Breust (buttocks) came off mid-match on Sunday for treatment, but returned and were two of the Hawks’ best players. Roughead was a late out after colliding with Chad Wingard at training on Saturday, but should be fine to play in round four. Conor Glass was held out of the VFL as the match-day emergency, but Mathew Walker and Ned Reeves also didn’t appear at state league level. – Marc McGowan

 Guy Walker  Shoulder  Indefinite
 Updated: Tuesday, April 9

Early prognosis

Early prognosis: Tom McDonald will be given every opportunity to get up for Thursday night’s game, but the short turnaround leaves him in doubt. Lewis should be fit to play in round five and will be back in full training by the end of the week. May will have his first run on either Wednesday or Friday and will build his conditioning from there. Joel Smith is still several weeks away after a pre-season groin injury has turned out to be worse than initially believed. – Ben Guthrie

Early prognosis

Wood and Garner suffered fresh setbacks in the VFL on Saturday night – the latter withdrawn after feeling tight in the warm-up – but both are considered minor and they could play this week. Important small defender Williams is still as many as three weeks off, while Jed Anderson (hamstring) and Sam Wright (quad) made successful returns in the VFL. Walker’s recovery from his PCL injury last year has stalled, with the second-year midfielder developing a small stress fracture in the same leg. Daw continues to make encouraging progress and ran over ground for the first time on Monday since suffering serious injuries in a fall in December. – Marc McGowan

Richmond’s injury problems are getting more serious by the week, with skipper Cotchin now joining the growing mass of senior players on the sidelines. However, Josh Caddy (ankle) played 70 per cent game time in the VFL last week, while Houli trained with the main group on Tuesday. Short is a big concern for the Tigers, having damaged ligaments in his arm when he dislocated his elbow, while neither Weller nor Aarts played VFL on the weekend. – Sarah Black

 Early prognosis

McVeigh’s loss is huge for the young Swans after he had a faultless pre-season, while Hayward had surgery on Sunday. Grundy’s back issue is lingering which isn’t a good sign for the veteran. Ling was the NEAFL runner last week and will make a return to the field on the weekend on limited minutes if he gets through training unscathed. – Adam Curley
