Early prognosis

Betts looks set to return for Saturday night’s clash with his former club Carlton after missing the past two weeks. Skipper Walker has no significant damage to his hamstring and will have to prove his fitness at Wednesday’s main training session. Scott Selwood will be monitored after his concussion stemming from Saturday’s bump from Lindsay Thomas. Coach Chris Scott said Ablett would be considered for the round seven clash against Greater Western Sydney and ran strongly at training on Thusday. Narkle continues to make strides in his return from an ACL, despite being on the long-term injury list, while McCarthy’s return will have to wait until after the VFL bye in a fortnight’s time. Henderson will this week be placed on the long-term injury list. – Mitch Cleary

The star forward copped a heavy knock on his knee and rolled his right ankle against the Bombers. Viney is still at least two weeks away from a return. Cotchin is sore after a right knee knock late in the game against Collingwood and will be given time to prove his fitness. He’s confident he’ll play after scans showed no structural damage, but a decision will be made after he really tests it out later in the week. Nick Vlastuin and Josh Caddy got through the Collingwood game after returning from calf and hamstring soreness respectively and will be available. Rioli continues to toil away at training but is yet to earmark a VFL game to return in. Oleg Markov will miss a couple of weeks with a quad injury he sustained in Saturday’s win over Werribee. – Jennifer Phelan

    1. The only thing that has held GWS off a premiership is the extensive injury list it builds up each and every year. Surely something needs to be looked into down there.
