Another week and another injury concern for Sloane, who has had his fitness battles this season. This time it’s a significant one, with the Adelaide co-captain undergoing surgery for a thumb fracture. It will see him miss at least the next month. Walker is expected to be available from his knee injury, while Atkins has made a faster than expected recovery and the Crows think he will be ready to tackle St Kilda next Monday. – Callum Twomey

Early prognosis

The Blues remain hopeful scans will clear Cripps (shoulder) and Murphy (hip) of any serious damage, with the important duo both finishing Sunday night’s win over the Dogs on the bench. Silvagni should put his name in contention to play this week after missing a fortnight due to a fractured rib, while Dow and Marchbank are outside chances to return from respective knee issues. – Riley Beveridge

Early prognosis

The Pies have a number of injury concerns ahead of Thursday night’s clash with the Cats. They expect Daicos to recover from an ankle injury in time to be available for selection, while Elliott (shin) and Scharenberg (ribs) should also be fit having finished last week’s match on the bench. Reid should come into contention again soon after a long layoff with a calf issue, but youngster Kelly will miss the remainder of the season after being sent for surgery on a nasty elbow injury. – Riley Beveridge

Essendon Bombers

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Patrick Ambrose  Foot  TBC
 Tom Cutler  Calf  1-2 weeks

 Kobe Mutch  Wrist  1-2 weeks
 Jake Stringer  Ankle  6-8 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 14

Early prognosis

The Bombers are hopeful McKenna’s finger injury sustained in last week’s win over North Melbourne will not see him miss much action, but it’s not ideal for the speedy half-back in his disjointed season. Daniher continues to build up his training but the Bombers won’t put a timeline on his return. Cutler will soon be ready for senior selection again while Heppell continues his recovery from ankle surgery. – Callum Twomey

Fremantle

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Reece Conca  Hamstring  1 week
 Brennan Cox  Hip  Test

 Griffin Logue  Toe  TBA
 Alex Pearce  Ankle  TBA
 Sam Sturt  Ankle  2-3 weeks
 Sam Switkowski  Back  TBA
 Hayden Young  Ankle  TBA
Updated: Monday, July 13

Early prognosis

Cox was a late out for the epic win over St Kilda but should be fit for Sunday’s derby against West Coast. The two casualties from the Saints clash were Darcy (concussion) and Young (ankle) and the Dockers need more time to assess their recovery. Skipper Nat Fyfe picked up a cork in his left leg and felt some awareness in the right hamstring that caused him to miss a game, but he is confident he will face the Eagles. Sturt injured his ankle at training last Thursday and will be out for a fortnight, while Conca is progressing well from his low-grade hamstring strain and should return next week. – Chris Correia

Geelong Cats

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Tom Atkins  Ribs  2-3 weeks
 Oscar Brownless  Shoulder  3-4 weeks
 Mitch Duncan  Hamstring  Test
 Josh Jenkins  Back  1-2 weeks
 Quinton Narkle  Hamstring  3-4 weeks
 Stefan Okunbor  Achilles  Indefinite
 Rhys Stanley  Knee  1-2 weeks
 Tom Stewart  Shoulder  2-4 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 14

Early prognosis

Duncan is more unlikely than likely after being removed from the win over Brisbane with a minor hamstring strain at quarter-time. With an 11-day break to follow Thursday night, don’t be surprised if the Cats hold him till then. Narkle’s injury is more severe and he will be sidelined for most of the three-week stay in WA. The Cats believe Atkins’ injury is now medium term, while Jenkins isn’t expected in match practice this week. Stewart is making quick progress from surgery a fortnight ago and will join in parts of training this week. – Mitch Cleary

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 George Horlin-Smith  Foot  3 weeks
 Mitch Riordan  Knee  Season
 Matt Rowell  Shoulder  Indefinite
 Rory Thompson  Knee  3 weeks
 Luke Towey  Eye  3-4 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 14

 Zac Williams  Hamstring  2 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 14

Early prognosis

Lloyd suffered delayed concussion against Port Adelaide on Sunday so will be monitored this week. The Giants have a relatively healthy list with the main concern around key defender Taylor, who faces a stint of at least several weeks on the sidelines as he deals with a bacterial infection in two joints. Speedy half-back Williams is not quiet ready to return. – Callum Twomey

Hawthorn

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
Luke Breust  Fractured jaw  2 weeks
 Will Golds  Knee  Season
 Dan Howe  Foot  Indefinite
 Mitch Lewis  Hamstring/hip  TBC
 Conor Nash  Shoulder  Test
 Jon Patton  Hamstring  4 weeks
 Jack Scrimshaw  Ankle  3-4 weeks
 Mathew Walker  Ankle  1 week
Updated: Tuesday, July 14

Early prognosis

Patton is back on the sidelines because of a hamstring setback on Friday night, after missing the previous fortnight with a foot blister that became infected. Scrimshaw will also be missing for several more weeks, while the Hawks are yet to reveal how long they expect Lewis to be out for. Jarman Impey (knee) and Changkuoth Jiath (hamstring) impressed in their returns via a weekend scratch match against the Giants. Nash hurt a shoulder in match simulation a couple of weeks ago and didn’t play in the practice game. – Marc McGowan

Melbourne

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Marty Hore  Quad/Toe  Indefinite
 Kade Kolodjashnij  Concussion  Indefinite
 Tom McDonald  Eye  Test
 Harry Petty  Groin  Indefinite
 Aaron Nietschke  Knee  Season
Updated: Tuesday, July 14

Early prognosis

McDonald missed most of Saturday night’s win over Gold Coast after copping an accidental poke to his right eye from Sun Charlie Ballard. He went to hospital after having some vision issues and was seen with a patch across that side of his face while on the bench but has recovered well. A decision on his playing status will be made later in the week. Outside of McDonald, the Demons again came through the weekend, including their scratch match against Sydney, without any concerns. Nathan Jones (soreness) played in the practice match after missing the previous week, while Charlie Spargo (ankle) wasn’t listed on the injury report. – Marc McGowan

North Melbourne

 Tarryn Thomas  Ankle  TBC
 Dom Tyson  Calf  1 week
Ed Vickers-Willis  Turf toe  1 week
 Will Walker  Quad  Test
 Jack Ziebell  Hamstring  Test
Updated: Tuesday, July 14

Early prognosis

Cunnington is the big one here. He’s missed three of the past four games and football boss Brady Rawlings says the 29-year-old won’t return until he completes a full week of training, so he remains in doubt. Thomas is a concern, too, with the ankle he hurt on Saturday night and is set to miss some time. However, Ziebell is a good chance to be back after a fortnight out, while Anderson needs to pass a fitness test after being a late withdrawal last weekend. Scans confirmed Curtis Taylor escaped a facial fracture from his clash with Dylan Shiel. Nick Larkey (foot) and Luke Davies-Uniacke (groin) came through unscathed in limited minutes in North’s scratch match against Essendon. Walker could play this week after missing the same practice game. – Marc McGowan

Early prognosis

The Power will put Duursma through his paces later this week in an attempt to ensure he’s fit to return from a hamstring issue, while Motlop is being monitored after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s win over the Giants. Sutcliffe will miss the majority of the next month, having also hurt his hamstring in the side’s victory over the weekend. – Riley Beveridge

Richmond

No fresh concerns from Sunday’s win over Sydney, but skipper Cotchin looks set to miss at least another week with his hamstring. Astbury has made a quicker than expected recovery from knee surgery and is a sneaky chance to return this week. Prestia and Nankervis are recovering from surgery in Melbourne, while Houli and Edwards opted to remain home with their families and will be out indefinitely. – Ben Sutton

The Saints escaped the loss to Fremantle without any major injury worries. Hannebery is at least a fortnight away, while Dunstan will be hoping he can put his hand up for selection by season’s end. – Mitch Cleary

The Swans suffered a double whammy with stars Kennedy and Heeney going down. Heeney won’t play again until 2021 after dislocating and rupturing an ankle, for which he underwent surgery on Monday afternoon. He will be in a moonboot for the next month. Kennedy will miss at least the next four weeks with a torn medial ligament. Franklin has increased his running but is still “a few weeks away”, football boss Charlie Gardiner says. Sam Reid played limited minutes in his return in a scratch game against Melbourne at the weekend and is an outside chance to play seniors. McCartin has now missed the past three games with concussion symptoms but will train on Thursday. – Marc McGowan

    1. Heeney being out won’t affect the Swans midfield balance, he didn’t have any CBAs and has being playing as a high HF.

Kennedy’s injury probably allows Stephens to hold his spot and play more inside, otherwise it will just allow those with strong CBAs to consolidate their MID role – less rotations, etc.

For reference, here were the Swans CBAs over the weekend:
      Florent – 8
      Hewett – 8
      Parker – 6
      Rowbottom – 5
      Kennedy* – 4
      Dawson – 3

      1. Thanks GD, I thought with Heeney out Parker might spend more time up forward.

Keeping my eye on Hewett, he has a bucketload of talent and has scored well when not playing as a tagger.

Where did you get the CBA’s from? I couldn’t find them.

  2. Just wondering if anyone has any updates on Mitchell Georgiades
    Port Adelaide Forward?
    Is he worth hanging onto?
