Early prognosis

Milera has avoided shoulder surgery after his collision in the round five win against Gold Coast and should be back within a month. Brown will have a fitness test this week to see if he will play his first game of the season in the SANFL this weekend. The defender has been sidelined since undergoing left ankle surgery in early March. Midfielder Bryce Gibbs has recovered from a virus and will be available to face Fremantle on Sunday. – Lee Gaskin

Livewire forward Elliott appears a certain starter against Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Friday night after missing the Anzac Day clash with Essendon and defender Aish also appears likely to return. Fellow backman Appleby and midfielder Sier could return in the VFL. MayneMurphy and Tyler Brown will be out for about another month each, while Scharenberg won’t be far behind them as he comes back from a third knee reconstruction. The season seems over for veteran Dunn after a second anterior cruciate ligament rupture in nine months. – Ben Collins

Full-back Astbury will need to get through training this week after rolling his ankle, while Graham suffered a minor hamstring injury in the VFL. Captain Cotchin suffered a setback, pushing his recovery time out to 3-4 weeks. There’s better news for Markov, who is nearly a month ahead of schedule after having minor knee surgery on a torn meniscus, while Grigg is now dealing with a hip complaint – Sarah Black

A return for McCartin might not happen this year. Bruce carried a leg injury through the Adelaide loss and needs to prove his fitness. Small forward Lonie is set for a reasonable stint on the sidelines, with captain Geary facing a similar medium-term time out of the game. Watson has suffered a significant AC injury after being stretchered from the ground during the win over Claremont, but has avoided surgery and completed some light kicking and marking – not raising his left arm above shoulder height. Barrass has successfully undergone foot surgery but a timeframe for his comeback, initially estimated around seven-to-10 weeks, is up in the air. – Travis King
