Adelaide Crows

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Darcy Fogarty  Shoulder  Test
 Jordan Gallucci  Achilles  Season
 Wayne Milera  Foot  3 weeks
 Rory Sloane  Hand  3-5 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

Fogarty has missed the Crows’ past four games with a shoulder injury he suffered at training. The club had originally hoped he would only be sidelined for a week, but the expectation is that he is available to meet the Bombers this Sunday. Sloane remains at least several weeks away. – Callum Twomey

Brisbane Lions

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Marcus Adams  Foot  5 weeks
 Cameron Ellis-Yolmen  Calf  Test
 Connor McFadyen  Knee  Season
 Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

No new problems for the Lions on the weekend and they could have an extra player available. Ellis-Yolmen hurt his calf two weeks ago and is probably another week or two away but will be tested. – Michael Whiting

Carlton

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Charlie Curnow  Knee  Season
 Brodie Kemp  Knee  Season
 Matthew Kreuzer  Foot  3-5 weeks
 Caleb Marchbank  Knee  1-2 weeks
 Nic Newman  Knee  Season
 Jack Silvagni  Knee  1-2 weeks
 Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

The bad news for the Blues is that Silvagni injured his knee in his return from a rib injury while playing in a scratch match and could now miss the next fortnight. However, Paddy Dow (knee) made it through that practice game and is expected to be available to play. Important intercept defender Marchbank remains a couple of weeks away due to a slow recovery process from bone bruising to his knee. – Riley Beveridge

Collingwood

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Dayne Beams  Mental health  Indefinite
Jordan De Goey  Finger  6-8 weeks
 Levi Greenwood  Knee  1-2 weeks
 Jeremy Howe  Knee  8-12 weeks
 Will Kelly  Elbow  Season
 Tom Langdon  Knee  Indefinite
 Ben Reid  Calf  Test
 Trey Ruscoe  Hamstring  Test
 Matthew Scharenberg  Ribs  Test
 Steele Sidebottom  Suspension  1 match
 Anton Tohill  Concussion  Test
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

Star duo De Goey (finger) and Howe (knee) will both be racing the clock to return before finals, having each undergone surgery on their respective injury issues. However, the Pies could regain Reid (calf) and Scharenberg (ribs) for this week’s clash with the Eagles. Sidebottom is still one game away from returning from suspension. – Riley Beveridge

Essendon Bombers

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Patrick Ambrose  Foot  TBC
 Joe Daniher  Groin  Indefinite
 Martin Gleeson  Managed  Test
 Dyson Heppell  Ankle  Indefinite
 Tom Hird  Foot  Season
 Lachie Johnson  Knee  5-7 weeks
 Dylan Shiel  Suspension  1 match
 Jake Stringer  Ankle  5-7 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

Gleeson was managed last week and didn’t feature in the Bombers’ scratch match but was named an emergency, so should be right to come back if selected. Daniher’s calf strain last week set his return from groin troubles back an extra couple of weeks, leaving more uncertainty about if the key forward will play this year. Stringer has flown to the Gold Coast but is some time away from getting back onto the field with his ankle injury. – Callum Twomey

Fremantle

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Reece Conca  Hamstring  Test
 Nat Fyfe  Hamstring  2-3 weeks
 Stefan Giro  Ankle  2-3 weeks
 Joel Hamling  Ankle  TBA
 Jesse Hogan  Calf  1-2 weeks
 Griffin Logue  Toe  TBA
 Alex Pearce  Ankle  TBA
 Sam Sturt  Ankle  Test
 Sam Switkowski  Back  TBA
 Hayden Young  Ankle  TBA
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

The Dockers escaped Sunday’s Western Derby loss without any major injury concerns. An eight-day break before taking on Geelong should give Taylin Duman plenty of time to recover from a sprained thumb, while Conca and Sturt are both chances to return. Young has had surgery on his ankle, while Logue is battling turf toe and the club is hopeful the pair will return before the end of the season. – Chris Correia

Geelong Cats

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Gary Ablett  Personal  Indefinite
 Tom Atkins  Ribs  1-2 weeks
 Oscar Brownless  Shoulder  2-3 weeks
 Jordan Clark  Shoulder  4-8 weeks
 Mitch Duncan  Hamstring  Test
 Josh Jenkins  Back  1-2 weeks
 Quinton Narkle  Hamstring  1-2 weeks
 Stefan Okunbor  Achilles  Test
 Joel Selwood  Hamstring  2-3 weeks
 Rhys Stanley  Knee  1-2 weeks
 Tom Stewart  Shoulder  Test
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

Just four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured collarbone, Stewart is in line to play against Fremantle on Monday. Duncan is also expected to return for the match that will fall 18 days after his hamstring strain sustained in the round six win over Brisbane. Selwood’s setback is a ‘standard’ hamstring on the same side that he had surgery on to repair a tendon in the off-season. Clark has avoided surgery but will miss a significant chunk of the season. Narkle is still likely to be sidelined, while Jenkins is still recovering. The Cats described Atkins as medium term last week and Ablett has returned to Victoria to be with his family, needing 14 days isolation in Queensland when he opts to join the Cats on the second leg of their quarantine. In positive news, Okunbor is expected to play in a scratch match against Fremantle’s reserves next week just six weeks after rupturing his Achilles. – Mitch Cleary

Gold Coast Suns

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 George Horlin-Smith  Foot  2 weeks
 Mitch Riordan  Knee  Season
 Matt Rowell  Shoulder  Indefinite
 Rory Thompson  Knee  2 weeks
 Luke Towey  Eye  2-3 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

It’s been a rare sight for the Suns over recent years, but their injury list is in relatively good shape. Horlin-Smith and Thompson should be available in the next fortnight, adding more depth to a squad that is as healthy as it’s been for some time. – Michael Whiting

GWS Giants

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Isaac Cumming  Hamstring  8-10 weeks
 Toby Greene  Shin  Test
 Adam Kennedy  Hamstring  1 week
 Sam Reid  Calf  2 weeks
 Sam Taylor  Back  TBC
 Callan Ward  Knee  3-5 weeks
 Zac Williams  Hamstring  1 week
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

All eyes will be on Greene this week as he looks to prove his fitness for Friday night’s clash with the Tigers. The Giants expect him to play and they need their superstar small forward back. Williams is still another week away with his hamstring injury but will be a boost when he returns, while Kennedy’s ongoing hamstring concerns will see him available in another week too. The club isn’t sure exactly when Taylor will be back from his septic arthritis but he has left hospital and is back at the club. – Callum Twomey

Hawthorn

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
Luke Breust  Fractured jaw  2 weeks
 Jon Ceglar  Fractured toe  Test
 Will Golds  Knee  Season
 Dan Howe  Foot  Test
 Tim O’Brien  Ankle  1-2 weeks
 Jon Patton  Hamstring  3 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

O’Brien is the newest injury concern and will miss at least a week after hurting his left ankle early in Sunday’s defeat to Melbourne. The timing isn’t great, with Patton still out for a few more weeks and fellow key forward Mitch Lewis out of sorts. Ceglar is also in some doubt, given his injury will be problematic for a ruckman. However, Jack Scrimshaw (ankle) is likely to return and Jarman Impey is two scratch games into his comeback from a knee reconstruction. Howe will make his long-awaited return in a scrimmage game against GWS but Breust is still a fortnight off. – Marc McGowan

Melbourne

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Marty Hore  Quad/Toe  Indefinite
 Kade Kolodjashnij  Concussion  Indefinite
 Tom McDonald  Eye  Test
 Harry Petty  Groin  Indefinite
 Aaron Nietschke  Knee  Season
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

The Demons erred on the side of caution and left McDonald out of Sunday’s game, but coach Simon Goodwin tipped the key forward to be available to face Brisbane this weekend. Whether he is selected is the dilemma. They continue to have as good an injury run as any club, after hiring strength and conditioning guru Darren Burgess in the off-season. – Marc McGowan

North Melbourne

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Jed Anderson  Quad  Test
 Charlie Comben  Back/Knee  TBC
 Ben Cunnington  Back  TBC
 Taylor Garner  Hamstring  1-2 weeks
 Kyron Hayden  Concussion  Test
 Ben Jacobs  Head/neck  TBC
 Flynn Perez  Knee  TBC
 Jy Simpkin  Ankle  Test
 Tarryn Thomas  Ankle  TBC
 Dom Tyson  Calf  Test
 Ed Vickers-Willis  Turf toe  Test
 Will Walker  Quad  Test
 Jack Ziebell  Hamstring  4 weeks
 Cam Zurhaar  Calf  Test
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

It’s pure carnage at Arden St, with no club suffering more on the injury front. Coach Rhyce Shaw said Ziebell reinjuring the hamstring that kept him out for the previous fortnight was “bad luck” rather than mismanagement. Ziebell is set to miss four weeks, which is extra costly with the truncated fixture to come. Zurhaar was a late withdrawal from Saturday night’s game but should be right to return, while Anderson will be close as well. Hayden’s status will be guided by how he fares in the concussion protocols after coming off second-best in a collision with Tiger Tom Lynch. Simpkin played out the match after in-game treatment. The likes of Nick Larkey, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Kayne Turner are increasing their output post-injury in scratch games. – Marc McGowan

Port Adelaide

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Ryan Burton  Quad  TBC
 Willem Drew  Foot  1-2 weeks
 Scott Lycett  Knee  Test
 Steven Motlop  Ankle  TBC
 Connor Rozee  Heel  Test
 Cam Sutcliffe  Hamstring  1-2 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

The Power are still awaiting scan results to determine the fitness of Burton (quad) and Motlop (ankle), after both finished Sunday’s game on the bench. Rozee hurt his heel and will have a fitness test to determine whether he will be available to take on the Saints. Doubt remains over Lycett, who has PCL damage to his knee. He’s unlikely to return this week, but will be tested. – Riley Beveridge

Richmond

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 David Astbury  Knee  Test
 Josh Caddy  Hamstring  4-6 weeks
 Trent Cotchin  Hamstring  1 week
 Noah Cumberland  ACL  Season
 Shane Edwards  Personal  Indefinite
 Bachar Houli  Personal  Indefinite
 Will Martyn  Foot  1-3 weeks
 Toby Nankervis  Ankle  3-6 weeks
 Dion Prestia  Ankle  3-6 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

Another blow for the Tigers with Caddy to miss at least a month with a significant hamstring injury. In better news, premiership defender Astbury is likely to return against the Giants, but Cotchin will be given another week to recover from his hamstring injury. Prestia and Nankervis are rehabbing in Queensland, but are still around a month away from returning. – Ben Sutton

St Kilda

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Josh Battle  Concussion/cheekbone  Test
Luke Dunstan  Pectoral muscle  6-8 weeks
 Ben Long  Suspension  2 matches
 Dan Hannebery  Hamstring  Test
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

Brett Ratten suggested Hannebery was pushing for a return last week but given his history, expect the Saints to be extra cautious. Battle will be monitored after sitting out the latter stages of the win over the Crows with concussion following a nasty head clash. – Mitch Cleary

Sydney Swans

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Kaiden Brand  Groin  1-2 weeks
 Lance Franklin  Hamstring  4-5 weeks
 Will Hayward  Knee  Test
 Isaac Heeney  Ankle  Season
 George Hewett  Back  Test
 Josh Kennedy  Knee  5-6 weeks
 Michael Knoll  Knee  1-2 weeks
 Sam Naismith  Knee  Season
 Colin O’Riordan  Hip  Test
 Ben Ronke  Back  6-7 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

There’s mixed news for the Swans, with O’Riordan – who couldn’t finish Saturday’s game – Hayward and Hewett all in some doubt. Hewett has a bulging disc in his back, while Hayward played out the loss to the Suns with a hyperextended knee. On the flipside, all of Sam Reid (calf), Lewis Melican and Joel Amartey (both groin) will be available. Callum Sinclair (knee) and Tom McCartin (concussion) also returned last week. Franklin is edging closer but is still some way off, while Brand could still be a fortnight from playing again. – Marc McGowan

West Coast Eagles

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Mark Hutchings  Knee  1-2 weeks
 Jamaine Jones  Hamstring  Test
 Mitch O’Neill  Back  Indefinite
 Jack Petruccelle  Hamstring  4-5 weeks
 Luke Shuey  Hamstring  Test
 Daniel Venables  Concussion  Season
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

The Eagles took the cautious approach with Shuey’s hamstring, meaning he should be cherry ripe for Sunday’s date with Collingwood. Hutchings is edging closer to a return via the scratch matches, while Jarrod Brander (hip/back) is available. Jones will press his case for selection but may need an extra week. – Mitch Cleary

Western Bulldogs

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Josh Dunkley  Ankle  3-5 weeks
 Taylor Duryea  Quad  3-5 weeks
 Riley Garcia  Knee  Indefinite
 Ryan Gardner  Calf  Test
 Lin Jong  Ankle  4-6 weeks
 Aaron Naughton  Ankle  4-6 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 21

Early prognosis

Naughton has just started running three weeks after his ankle syndesmosis surgery. Sam Lloyd is off the injury list and kicked a goal against Essendon in last week’s scratch match. Gardner is back training and the Dogs got through their AFL and scratch matches without picking up any new injuries. – Jourdan Canil

  1. Good to see Duncan is not on the list, so should be back this week. Got away with him only missing 1 match if he plays this round.
