The Crows can’t take a trick. High-flying forward McGovern is the latest casualty, suffering a high ankle sprain in the final minute of the side’s Showdown loss last weekend. McGovern will miss eight weeks. In better news, skipper Walker, ruckman Jacobs, Hartigan, Knight, Hampton, Gibson and Keath could all be available this weekend. – Lee Gaskin

With the return of four players last weekend, Geelong’s injury list shrunk considerably. Chris Scott admitted he was concerned after Daniel Menzel missed a third consecutive match with a groin issue. He hasn’t trained in that period and is set to miss again. Brandan Parfitt has started to build up his running and will come into calculations this week if he gets through Thursday’s main session. Scott Selwood “jarred” his back at training last week, with the Cats medical team saying it’s not too serious. – Mitch Cleary

Provided Puopolo gets through Thursday’s main training session, he’ll be on the plane to Brisbane on the weekend to catch up with old mate Hodgey. “After the bye” has been the stock-standard answer to any query about Rioli’s return for several weeks now, while Birchall is in the midst of a mini pre-season so that he’s right to go in the second half of the season as well. Moore hasn’t played for a few weeks, but the poor kid was given the cursed No.36 jumper, which explains everything. – Ashley Browne

There’s a few sore Tigers from Sunday’s win over North Melbourne. Broad and Castagna have minor ailments and will need to see how they fare this week before a decision is made on their availability. Prestia is likely to miss again with a calf complaint with the Tigers to be conservative with his management given his lack of pre-season, but Grigg should be ready to resume after missing a fortnight with a hamstring. Garthwaite is expected to be available despite hurting his shoulder in the VFL on the weekend and Markov is set to return from a quad complaint, while the time may have finally come for Rioli to resume with the premiership Tiger a tentative chance to play against Sandringham on Saturday.     Anybody that has been holding him may want to think again.

  2. Does anybody exactly know whats going on with buddy because it went from being 1-2 weeks to 4 and now it could be up to 6 so would really like to know if anybody has any other news.

  3. There’s always a bunch of names of first year players on these lists that you’ve never heard of and will never see in the seniors. Love that the Hawks have a guy called Changkuoth Jiath. What a name!!

  4. Walters a test for this week would be a fantastic result to be back after missing only the 2 games.
