‘Insert Team Name’ Needs Your Help!

‘e=mchammer’ is a long-time Forum member that has had a great run this season and is currently sitting 10th overall.  He’s in the mix for some prizemoney and would like some advice from you,

‘Top 10 with 4 trades and no Gawn (or cripps)

Had to trade him out to avoid the donut so i bought Lycett in with the plan to DPP him to Worpel. Kelly and Hore threw a spanner in the works last week. Worpel finally performed and Gawn has a high BE still so can hold off a week but i didnt expect him to bounce back so quickly.
T/u : Get Gawn now at all costs
T/d : Hold for 2 weeks and save those trades’

  2. I’m right there breathing down your neck….

I am taking the approach of use the trades and keep your fingers crossed. Its an all or nothing approach but I don’t want to be looking at the end of the season seeing I was 50 points outside the top 10 and knowing I could have traded earlier for those points. At this stage every point is so valuable.

Obviously the flip side is copping a zero or something later because you have no trade and no cover. With 4 trades left I would go for it if I were you.

I personally am going the aggressive approach as I prefer to take the risk, and I would struggle seeing the points I am giving up.

Good luck, and lets hope we can both end up in there!

      1. Not great. Got the solitary trade left. Had to trade to avoid the Gawn donut and get rid of Kelly. Can cover everywhere but defense though, so got my fingers crossed (that normally works well right??).

    1. Similar position 197th from memory we are 750 points behind leader.

However, only 400 odd points outside top 50 that is what I’m aiming for but will be ecstatic to finish top 100

  3. Gawnie is obviously the man you want in the of the two, as does Lycett for Worpell.
Lycett went large after the break against lesser opponents, his score came back to earth last week against Steph.
Next 2 against opponents he should beat.
My gut says hold the trades for the hammies & carnage that will come in the next 2 months, but as Chris says when the $ is on the line sometimes you roll the dice. Good luck!

  4. I’m 20th with 5 trades left and was going to wait for Gawn to drop another 40k + and pick up next week because he was playing f against Nic Nat. Now that Naitanui is out I can see Gawn going large this week

    1. That was originally my thinking too. Hes bounced back very well and is only going to dominate!

  5. Can you do it with one trade ?
Hope for a good week from lycett and swap the week after after max falls
The thirty you miss you will make up for by keeping the extra trade.
The very best of Good luck .

    1. An option for your remaining trades could be:

      Rd18:
Out: G Logue and B Bewley
In: K Dunkley (via N Answerth) and I Hill (GWS fwd/mid)

Then at some stage the last 2 trades can be used to trade
      Out: D Clarke, ?
In: M Gawn (via W Setterfield and S Lycett), ?

? to ? free up the necessary 0 to 70,000 for M Gawn.

Will leave you with N Answerth as def cover, Setterfield covering the mids and Worpel covering the fwds/mids at F7 with Lycett for ruck cover.

Grabbing a fwd/mid dpp like I Hill allows B Crouch to be looped with J Worpel at M8 or Lycett and Worpel to be looped at F6.

  7. You’re 10th, i’m a lot more than that. I’ve made countless dud trade decisions this year. I’ll help by watching creepily from the sidelines.

    Go on…

    1. Haha invaluable input there RB thanks mate. Completely unrelated topic but my late uncle was named in North Melbourne’s top 150 of all time (Neil Doolan). Regardless pf my outcome this year its a great result for the fam!

  8. Hey, hammer. I’ll give my two cents.

Think you’ve gotta get Gawn in ASAP, clearly the #1 SC player.

He’s got West Coast this week, so it’s worth considering how our [West Coast] rucks went against the other premier ruck man in the comp [Grundy] last Friday:

Match started and Natanui was handing Grundy his ass; got the first two hitouts to advantage easily, beat him to contests and won the next few hitouts at the stoppages. Given the way we’re managing him, it’s 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off though. Cue Tom Hickey, who came on and absolutely fed Grundy all night. He gave away two stupid frees and comprehensively out-rucked v Grundy.

With Natanui out, I can see Gawn slapping Hickey around. We’ll almost certainly bring in Vardy as a replacement for Natanui seeing though the 2 rucks is integral to our system. Now, in previous matches Vardy and Lycett have double-teamed Gawn effectively but Hickey is a fool and Vardy hasn’t played since R12.

So, I think Gawn will have a field day this round- not to mention the Dees play Traeger Park pretty well, whereas we’ve never played there. Under usual circumstances the consensus would be too obviously wait but I’ve taken a look at the other teams around you and most of them have Gawn, so it might really hurt to not have him this round. It might be short sighted, but I’d pull the trigger.

Then his next two games are against the Saints and Tigers, and he’ll touch both of them the f*ck up.

    1. Thanks mate. I appreciate the input and thats some great insight vs the Weagles. I really, really dont want to trade in a player with over 200 BE even though it is Gawn, but he is the only target right now pending other injuries. I do want him before saints and tiges (will be interesting match up against Marshall). Im just very nervous about having 2 trades with 5 rounds left which is the reality in getting him now. Food for thought though definitely

        1. Good point, was just for the excess cash, as if i can leave a small amount left over after the 2 trades it means i can sideways trade to cover any carnage going forward. I jumped on the thread that Adam sent through and was a very good insight as to where the top 20 are sitting (minus knowing how many trades they have). Getting Gawn now would indeed be a handy move..hmmm.

          1. Points v money. Thought the decision would be easy. Clearly you know better though, hammer. Back yourself in, mate.
