Kelly v Newman

Written by Motts on July 15 2010

Both priced at $517k, both averaging about 97 ppg, both named in the Movers this week. If you were upgrading a backman this week and didn’t have either of them, which one would you take?

Who are your VC / C options for Rd10? (max three)

  1. Hmmm…Newman, only by the fact that he is captain. Kelly on the other hand is a DPP – equally attractive.

    1. I honestly thought Kelly would be doing better than this. I’m the only one to have voted for him so far. It was his DPP status that got me over the line.

      1. I’m concerned at his midfield time reducing as Corey comes back and GAJ is played through there more often.

  2. Yes, Kelly has DPP, but you also need a mid that is a back DPP for it to work, and I wouldn’t want any back in my mids except for Goddard, and even then it is more advantagous to have GOD in your backs as the midfield has far more options. I think DPP is sometimes looked into too much.

Newman also has a 16 in his average and a shocking start to the year, as of late he is on fire and can pump out whopping scores.

    Newman for me

    1. Agree with you DPP thoughts. It’s useful only if you’ve got a bench DPP but it means that you don’t make upgrades that you’d otherwise make. I’ve still got DPP Davis and Rohan and will keep them because it provides me with mid injury coverage ’cause i can swap one of my fwds into the mids and Davis is a DPP with Waite providing injury coverage in fwd/back.

Useful yeah .. overrated possibly .. colours upgrade decisions

  3. Just wondering, am I the only person who has never used DPP? I never found out about it until round 2 and by then my team was made. I had players who could do it from the back to mid and from the fwd to mid, but no mid players who could go anywhere.

Have I been majorly disadvantaged by not using it?

  4. This poll is proving quite pointless in a decision over choosing one of them…both locked 22 votes each doesn’t help.
