Lake

Written by Motts on April 2 2012

Those of us who took a chance on Brian Lake might be feeling a little dudded this morning. Admittedly he was playing on one of the biggest talents in the game, Nic Naitanui, for most of the game but even so a return of 30 is unacceptable.

This week he’ll probably line up on Kurt Tippett. Are you going to be giving him one more chance? Or have you seen enough?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. At the rate he’s going, I’m tempted to trade him for Marty Clarke!!!! Despite his non-thrilling score on the weekend he’ll likely at least make his break even and free up some $$$
However I *really* don’t want to trade after just one round. I think I will give him one more week and make my decision prior to rd3 and subsequent price rises.

  2. Fought the urge for a very long time to stick with my pure GnR. Glad I did.
I dont see a fit Lake performing like that every week though, he’ll be back.

  3. How many people are actully making trades this week?
Next week is just another points round and a chance for players to rebound.
I wouldn’t be wasting a trade in round one.
Unless your desperate to get rid of a dud of course (Lake).
    We should have a poll??

  4. Depends on how many other issues you might have in your team eg broughton and how many gun rookies you may want to trade on the bubble next week. I’ll be stubbornly holding on to him for at least round two

  5. I’m trading this week. Looks like Christian Howard will be out for a while (keeping Parker though – will just bench him as he recovers). Will also need to trade in A Kennedy to cover for Parker. Whilst I’d prefer not to be trading (or to have 2 injuries in the first round) a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do – and it was my own stupid fault for taking Kennedy out at the last minute for Shiel.

I’m guessing I might need to trade out Harris/Lake or Boumann next week – my backline is a mess.

  6. Made this trade not sure if I should keep it or not because I’m unsure about using trades this early on, next week I might use another one or two to get cash cows I missed but other then that I don’t think I’ll use up any trades in the next few weeks so I think it’s ok to make this trade. I’m a bit annoyed that I didn’t think of doing this a while ago but anyway…

    In- Birchall, Paine
    Out- Lake, Clarke

Thumbs up: Good trade, keep it
Thumbs down: See the ‘reverse changes’ button? Yeah click on that.

  10. Didn’t get him so happy about that. Picked Broughton over Birchall however……why????

On subject of SCTTL, there was a certain someone in my league (SCTTL5) who didn’t get the memo where your supposed to pick the same side as everyone else!!!!!!!

  11. Will give both Lake and Broughton one more chance this week. Already have Birchall. Will be keeping an eye on Adcock for Broughton.

The whole GWS backline for Lake. He did my head in.

  12. Lake and Broughton, i hope you’re happy, messing up so many supercoachers backlines.. I’m actually considering trading one of them this week. A rational thinking El Greco would think “Hold your horses, it’s round one, you don’t want to use all your trades by round 12 just like 2009, do you?”
The problem is, if i give them another week, i may miss the chance to put in clay smith? Just like i missed out on Podsiadly, Curnow AND Barlow.

  13. Dodged a bullet after having Lake for most of the pre-season. Followed my gut and went against a poll I put up for Pendles/Lake vs Watson/Heppell. Going to be a painful wait until RD13 to get Pendles in but I reckon I got this one right.

I am thinking about one trade though – G.Broughton. +cock is looking pretty tempting. Anyone know if he has he been playing midfield all preseason? Either way I’ll probably wait a week. Broughton’s got the Swans who don’t really have a threat like Stevie J so he might be back in the middle for the week and +cock’s got the blues (coincidentially the name of favorite BB King/Ron Jeremy collaboration) so will find it a bit tougher than on the weekend. After that I think I might pull the trigger, even if Broughton knocks out a ton. Just can’t have him ignore the football for three quarters like he did.

  14. That’s cool Juddy I don’t get offended very easily, I deserve a good ribbing about that.
I’m sure I had an E in the mids, I have a suspicion that while I was messing about with the SC app I stuffed it up, ah well lesson learnt.

My daughters SC team ripped a 2,258 and the boys a 2,161, I would say they are going to win there schools comp by a mile

  16. Lake –> Hargrave or Dempsey
    Broughton –> Adcock or Birchall

Liking these trades….but will probably wait another week before pulling the trigger

  18. Surely at 280,000 Lake can’t go down THAT much in one week. Like maybe 10,000-20,000 but not heaps…

  19. Buddhas addiction SCTTL has traded Lake to Mohr, freed up some cash and Buddha feels he has better scoring and money making potential. Also Brown to C. Smith before that horse bolts.

  20. Don’t know what I was thinking with lake, looks like I’ll be burning a trade next week, lake to bugg

  21. He is either a keeper or a cash cow. He cannot be a keeper if he throws up the odd 30, cannot be a cash cow with this low score. Therefore he needs to go.

  22. Alot of people are going to burn a trade getting rid of Lake this week.

I was one of the people burnt by Lake last year.
I didnt know he was injured, So i told myself never again.
This year i realised he was injured last year, so i gave him another chance.

Yes i know he did crap but he played against Cox and Nic Nat who were resting up forward.. So of course they never went ball hunting down the ground. So he was stuck in the Goal square. And its almost impossible winning a marking contest against those 2.

Next week if i’m correct, he’s playing Adelaide so he will probably be on Tippett and i wont be surprised if he follows Tippett up the ground if Tippett goes ball hunting. This can see Lake rack up his usual points.

Keep him in the team one more week..
If your not confident, put him on the bench,
but i dont see a need

  23. Two things on Lake. Firstly, while I thought that the SC show on Fox Footy was pretty poor, the one thing that I did take from it was that Lake picked himself in his team. I had been tossing up between whether or not to select him right up until that moment. Apart from the injuries, his season last year was so terrible because he was shot mentally. His head and body are both in a better place this year, and trading him after one week is, frankly, stupid (I apologise if anybody is insulted by that, but if you put any time whatsoever into picking your side, then you should be very upset with the fact that you have given up on yourself and your judgement after four quarters of footy).

Secondly, food for though. Last year Yarran was hyped during the pre-season. I know many people who jumped off him after a 32 against Richmond in the corresponding 2011 fixture. In the next three weeks? 114, 111, 105 and a season average of 90 (if you take out that first game).

Basically, what I am trying to say, is that making a snap judgement after one week is silly. Realistically, who has the cash to trade him to anyone very good? So you are looking at either a minor upgrade, or a trade to a Hargrave, Clarke, Bower or rookie player. Even if he pulls another 30, what have you lost? Maybe 50-60 points for your overall season total. Why not wait a week, when prices still haven’t changed and other options have given you another viewing and you have had time to clear your head from…whatever you call what he served up on the weekend? It’s a marathon, not a sprint

*In the interests of full disclosure: I have him…
