  1. Has Goodwin past his prime, he scored well in the Nab, but I’m not sure he can score big numbers this season. Any thoughts?

    1. For me, I think he’s past it. Might do well at the start of the season, but will most likely drop off as the season drags on. I’ve had him the last couple of seasons for good results, but have left him out this year.

  2. How many Rooks Should you start in the midfield? Every man and his dog is going to have Martin, but do you start another rook and with the extra cash top up your forward line

  3. i personally have 3 starting rookies
but not sure in what stead this is going to leave me

Complete topic change, but what is the go with Dangerfield, many injuries, and wondering if he is worth sitting in my forward line?

  4. Three things:
    1) Does anyone think Mitch Robinson-Carlton is a good player to get or is it too risky? [Rather than a 100k player]
    2) Would having Hille and Natanui be a good combo?
    3) What do you think of Medhurst/R. Gray

    1. On your second point – I have both ruckmen starting in my side. I’m confident enough in Hille’s knee to get through the year and for him to get back to his best. Natanui is a freak. He will be incocnsistent, but he’s going to have more good games than bad games this year.

With the cash you save on those two spots, you’ve got room in the cap to have an extra premium somewhere in your starting side.

      1. 1) Yep.

        2) I was with Shaneo till today when I finally decided to pull Tippett in from my forward line and drop Hille, replacing Tippett with Ziebell up forward. For me, it was ‘Hille or another small forward?’, and even with his knee on the mend I went for the small forward. Tippett is an animal and will average 100 this year. (PS NicNat is also my second ruck.)

        3) Medhurst.

    2. 1) Take the 100k player, Robinson will be in and out of the side and you will stand to make more cash off the 100k .
      2) Hille is a risk I reckon, he might be good to play but big men take time to get back into full flight so I don’t think you’d see his best until round 10 or so, can you afford to carry him for that long?
      3) Take Gray, talk is he’ll play midfield a far bit and I reckon Medhurst is severely overrated (for supercoach) he is flashy and even in his best season (2008) he is still only averaged under 90 points so assuming he gets back to that form his scores will stay similar. The Pies have a strong midfield as well so he won’t get much game time in there to improve his scores.

  5. What does everyone think about having 3 geelong players in the midfield? I’m thinking of having Ablett, Bartel and Kelly. Is it too many cats??

After a few days of consideration, what’s your take on the 3 mid rook strategy?
I’ve upgraded Trengove to Mitch Robinson as M4 so I’ve gone to a hybrid model however I think there’s more upside in his scoring ability/durability despite the extra 100K. Can Ratts be trusted with the “more of a midfield role” or is this PS junk talk?
Can’t believe everyone is jumping on Hooker/Medhurst/Betts etc based on a bit of kick and giggle however good luck to all. I’ve even decided to leave out BBBBH.
    Cheers

    1. I think the 3 rook strategy is totally valid Deano and worth the punt. I’ve toyed with the strategy myself but have since upgraded one of them to Mitch R based on his preseason form, his enthusiasm for the game, his ability to kick goals, and the knowledge that Ratts has been riding him pretty hard because he knows Mitch is up to it and can get better.
You know what, Deano? You are so right about people jumping on those players because of a bit of preseason form. Even I, the person who hates Collingwood more than anyone, subbed Medhurst into my team today. Paul Freaking Medhurst?!? What was I thinking??? Thank-you for returning me to sanity.
      BBB stays tho ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. This is the top ten Supercoach Player Rankings for Season 2009
        1 Gary Ablett Geelong
        2 Leigh Montagna St Kilda
        3 Dane Swan Collingwood
        4 Lenny Hayes St Kilda
5 Nick Dal Santo St Kilda
        6 Brendon Goddard St Kilda
        7 Paul Chapman Geelong
        8 Adam Goodes Sydney
        9 Nick Riewoldt St Kilda
        10 Marc Murphy Carlton

As you can see saints had 5 in the top ten so it doesn’t matter how many players you have from the same team.

          1. Still have the 3300 rule though which affects the peripheral players in teams such as these who have a number of premiums.

    1. Taps
I don’t deny that his numbers have been good in the NAB however what impresses me with MR is:
      -last year’s high scores (100+)showing he can produce and the 20s/30s are always going to come in Yr1 but yr 2 brings more consistency;
      -coming from Tas he has had to work harder than usual TAC, VIC/WA/SA youngsters for recognition (#40 in draft);
      – he plays a SC style of cont. poss. and high kick/HB ratio;and
-with Judd, Gibbs Murphy etc he will not even be on the radar of opp. teams for a tag so the potential is there for a SC sl_t at the Blues in the Stevens role and Hadlee has shown he’s not reliable.
Having said this I was convinced Walker was going to take this mantle last week but he’s in the Medhurst category.
      Cheers

        1. Too outside, too unreliable, too much expecting everything to happen for him rather than making it happen. I’m as far away from the Blues as can be after Juddy’s disgraceful betrayal after we took a huge punt on him and delivered him a Premiership as Skipper and a Charlie to boot! Best you consult Motts about the BooHoo Baggers. That being said, SC is about leaving those prejudices behind and making intelligent unbiased decisions – who wrote that under my name ???!!!

  8. Deano,
Why wouldnt u go with medhurst or hooker?
Same price as a “standard pick” ziebell/dangerfield /ladson/hunt yet playing alot better.

    1. Steve
Medhurst has only averaged over 62 in one (88 in 2008) year in his 160 game career. I think there is too much risk given Mick has him on a last chance policy with Sidey/Beams/Mcaff coming through. Also. being from the West, I watched him too many times doing up his bootlaces when the going got tough at Freo.
Hooker I think is interesting although his KPP status worries me – especially with another youngster at FBB and Dempsay will be the one released to rebound if he remains healthy. Finally, take a good look at the opposition he scored those points against – same goes for Stanton!
      Cheers

  9. guys, give me some feedback on my team-

defenders- Goddard, Mattner, Macdonald, Gram, Grundy, Russell, Kennelly. (Silvagni, Dare)

midfielders- Ablett, Boyd, Vince, Hodge, Ball, Trengove. (Moles, C Beams)

    rucks- Clark, Warnock. (Stanley, Bass)

Forwards- Petrie, S Johnson, Giansiracusa, Tippett, Hall, Dangerfield, Yarran. ( Podsiadly, Casboult)

    1. Too many Swans players for mine, they just don’t score enough, I’d swap Mattner with Gilbee!
I’d swap Petrie for his Kangas captain in Harvey as well he’ll be back to his 2008 best this year!
Ball is a Supercoach risk I reckon, he gets the pill but doesn’t use it that well there will be someone better around the same price…

    2. I wouldn’t run Warnock as your starting ruck, maybe swap Tippett to the ruck (esp. as you have Petrie), or grab someone like Seaby.

  10. My last cheap mid spot is down to Shuey v’s Moles? Still not sure? My feeling is that Moles LTI elevation may come back round 7 & he may not get much gametime with Dogs mids. But not sold on Shuey, does anyone know how his games were after his great Port effort?

  11. Thanks Motts , missed that post & Paul already read that article but Eade said he may not play round 1 and that doesnt leave much time for an increase in $$$ if his LTI comes back.

Shuey 54 in his third game……decisions, decisions!!!

  12. Hey guys,

Really stuck on my backup forward line..I already have Rockliff starting. I afraid Pods wont get much of a go from April onwards, Gumby getting crocked and even Hitchcock not getting a fair run with Motlop back. I’ve even started to think along the lines of Roberts and Petersen. Who do you guys recommend for the two subs spots in the fwd line??????

  13. Bastiniac, never really thought of him but going on those scores not too bad and may do that swap. Also looking at stats & these posts Cale Hooker looks the goods & may replace Krackouer

    1. Stevo
Little bit of work required here – you’re obviously a Blue Boy so firstly, unless you’re supplying Ratts with something, I’ve got more chance of playing than Dare and Cas. Try Nason and Rocky/Hcock. Clay Beams is also a far better cricketer and there is a multitude of rookie mids that will play. This is where the cash is made and the game won/lost.
Lingy has dropped SC ave in the past 5 years so I would consider replacing him with a good rookie to upgrade elsewhere (Grundy/Lockyer for premiums.)
Def are sound with reasonable uniques however I would reconsider Grundy as he will take on a KPP role this year with Ken/Eski back in the mix
Won’t touch your starting rucks due to your preface however consider dropping Bass for McCauley as he is mature age with senior experience and next in line for a fragile Lewy.
Don’t like the first 3 however the others are grea (love the Yarren gamble as a Black & White supporter). Consider replacing Locky as I had him last year and the old legs are catching up on him.
      7.5/10
      Cheers & good luck

  17. Like it a hell of a lot, Cam. It looks remarkably like some of the previous incarnations of my own team. Be sure Hitchcock or Pods gets named in R1 coz Buddy isn’t playing. Not a fan of Cloke’s but if you like him who am I to argue? All up I’d give it a 9/10.

    0

    0
    1. Thanks a lot Motts. I’m a Pies fan so I’m having Cloke in lol. I will make sure i have someone to cover buddy. By the way, who would you prefer, Kelly, which would make it 3 cats in the middle, or Cooney, then I have 3 brownlow medallists? What do you think?

    1. A lot of people are on Pods (myself included now), but I wouldn’t scoff at anyone who picks Gumby. If he’s fit (big if), he’ll be in their starting 22 every week – same can’t be said for Pods, not yet anyway.

  18. I am hoping to get some feedback regarding my sc team. I have 52k to spend and am looking at 3 options.

    1. holding on to it to help an upgrade in the future.

    2. using it to upgrade 1 of 3 low end defenders (m.maguire/p.davis/j.trengove-last 2 are my bench)….maybe in combination with extra cash from a ottens downdrade trade?

    3. upgrading ottens to Kruezer-not sold on Wood/Brogan/Jamar…..or d/g to Seaby/Hille/Mumford if I can get a suitable defender in the trade…my other rucks are n.natanui/r.warnock/r.stanley

    Any thoughts?

    1. Depends on who else is on your back line already. If it’s looking pretty solid I’d say go with Kreuzer. PS Drop Trengove from your back bench (I don’t think the PTA Trengove will play at all this season) and look at Silvagni (check he’s named though). That’ll give you another 23k or so to play with. You might look at the Ottens out for Seaby trade and with then you’d have 159 to up Maguire with…though depending on who you already have back there, there aren’t that many options. Having said that 114 (Maguire’s value) + 23 (Silvagni for Trengove) + 84 (Seaby for Ottens) + 52 (your kitty) = 273. Malceski is $273,500, maybe you can just afford him if you don’t have him.

      0

      1. b/l is Goddard/Hodge/Kennelly/Malceski/Farmer/Waters/McGuire
        Davis/Trengove.
I feel like I need 1 more defender but am unsure of suitable options in the pricerange…I am looking at Hunt/Raines or Schoenmakers.

        0

        0
      1. I already have Tippet in f/l. Have thought about relocating him and delisting Ottens to free up $ in the b/l, but then I need to replace him, so I am leaning toward keeping him in the f/l.

        0

        0
        1. Either way a good option might be to bring Tippett into your forward line and replace Ottens with any one of a number of forwards for his price. Whether it helps your back line it or not it still might be a good move.

          0

          0
          1. I’m leaning towards delisting Ottens, Trengove & Stanley( salary cap squeeze), changing Tippet to ruck, bringing in Harbrow to b/l, rookie 83k ruckman and R.Roberts to f/l…I have Rockliff/Podsiadly on bench, so, one of those three will now get a game.
It seems like a better gamble than McGuire/Davis/Trengove as the last back.

  19. Mottsy what’s your opinion on houlihan?? He is a consistent performer, averaging 80+ and has worked very hard over the summer. His preseason ave was 86, in the top 5.
Also is griffin a worthy risk after his phenomenal finals performance and preseason?? Should I consider Ball instead?
    Thoughts??

    0

    0
    1. Houla is worth the risk – always pretty efficient with the ball and as you say, has worked hard over the summer and has something to prove.
Was just talking to a mate about Griffen. Yes, I was burnt by him on occasion last year but he did finish off strongly and has started this year well. So yes I’d put him down as a worthy risk.
I’d take Griffen over Ball but I’ll put it to a poll later today.

  20. Hey lads great little website you have here…i am brand new to SC so i would like a bit of feed back on my team…this is for bragging rights at my footy club and i hate to loose at the best of times…

Backs: Goddard, Hurn, Gram/Dempsey, ladson, kelly, hodge, hunt (maguire, silvagni)
Mids: Bartel, Hayes, Mitchell, Boak, Trengove, Martin (Barlow, Bastinac)
    Rucks: Kruz, Seaby (stanley, McNamara)
Forw: Riewoldt, Higgins, Gray, Rob Murphy, Hall, Ziebell, Buchanan??? (Gumby, Rockliff)

$35k to spend…any help would be gd …my opinion is my forward line looks weak.
    cheers

    1. Hey Ads, say goodbye to all your spare time because this game will CONSUME you.
      Take Gram over Dempsey.
      Middle looks good.
Rucks are good but unless you’re trying to differentiate I’d have Warnock in your 1st bench position.
Buchanan averaged 60 in the preseason – that’s not gonna win you bragging rights at the footy club. I also think Gumby has to go.
      Good luck, mate.

  21. Does anyone truly understand this 3300 rule? What do live stats mean if it all has to be adjusted at the end of a game? How do they decide who should get the points? Is it just an even spread or does someone go “I think he played well lets give him some more points”?

    0

    0
    1. Can’t say I understand it Matt but its all to do with some mysterious formula that Champion Data won’t provide any details on that “normalises” everybody’s scores. To be honest, I think it makes SC a better competition than DT because no matter what the weather conditions, players scores will never be affected. A game could be played in a swimming pool at Manuka or in perfect conditions under the roof of the Docklands stadium and you’ll always have players scoring hundreds. You can’t get live SC scores anyway. The best that is offered is end-of-quarter updates which you’ll find, of course, on this site during the year.

    1. Looks ok to me. I just have a problem with Carrazzo (if he tags his scores will be affected), Cooney (poor preseason), and Dangers in the middle (take a risk and grab another rookie).
Use the $$ from the Dangers downgrade to upgrade Hille to someone who won’t get injured, and your forward line looks good (although I don’t agree with putting rookies on the field in any position other than the midfield). Other than that its perfect!

      1. cheers for the words of wisdom motts. my only concern was the backline. it feels rather light.

also have you copped any flack for running rookies in your mid-field. the apparent guru’s at my work (who i am dying to decimate) are calling me stupid for taking such a gamble.

        what do you think?

  27. G’day Motts,

Been using this rather spiffy site as a bit of a leg up on my mates for this season and popular opinion has dictated my side to a point. My greatest weakness is my ruck division I feel. What are the best rookie picks (>101,000) in the rucks this year and of course your thoughts of the side overall?

    Backs:
Goodwin, Drummond, Enright, Hodge, Hooker, Kennelly, Waters, Maguire, Silvagni.

    Midfielders:
Ablett, Goddard, Mitchell, Watson, Martin, Barlow, Banner, Bastinac.

    Rucks:
    Tippett, Hille, Trengove, Roughead.

    Forwards:
Riewoldt, Brown, Harvey, Waite, Hall, Medhurst, Rockliff, Gumbleton, Podsiadly.

    1. Spiffy hey? Wait til you see what we’ve got planned next! Duck has been doing some work today and we now have a coaches online counter on the front page. Big ups to Duck!
Warnock should be a lock for your 1st bench spot, who gets that second one is anybody’s guess right now. The fellas I’m tossing up between are Lobbe, Trengove and Roughie. Hopefully the R1 teams has one of them in it which will make my decision for me.
I ain’t sold on Hooker – push Goddard down back for him and bring a pure midfielder into the middle. And if you’ve been tracking my comments you’ll know I hate Gumbleton but otherwise its a ripper mate.

    1. Renoufs a pure dud mate-drop him, i suggest putting tippett in your ruck instead, and using the other cash you have for low up-and-coming player. Also Lobbe is more of a emg ruckman than a forward- get a good young forward mate.

apart from that, your all set by my standards
i applaud your punt on S Selwood.

  29. guys i need some valuable feedback…tell me my pros and cons, be as harsh as you like

    DEFENDERS-

    Goddard
    Hodge
MacDonald (i like this fellow, had a 80+ preseason)
Gram (just missed out on a Norm Smith, probably made him hungrier..)
Grundy (i think he will grow this year)
Russell ( he will grow the most by my predictions)
Kennelly (practically lost nothing since leaving..)
    (McGuire, T Hunt)

    MIDFIELDERS-

    Ablett
    Mitchel
Vince (more of where 2009 came from!!)
Griffin (up and down like bloody sea-saw last year–think he is more focused now)
Ball ( he gets alot of the ball, but does not use it efficiently
    Martin
    ( Bastinac, Moles)

    RUCK(i know its abit weak)-

    Tippett( too much hype??)
    Warnock (too risky??)
    ( Lobbe, McCauley)

    FORWARDS-

    Giansiracusa( thoughts on him anyone??)
LeCras( can he replicate his 2009 form??)
Houlihan( Did well last year, apparently fitter and stronger this year)
Betts-in the same boat(lol) as houla performance-wise last year
    Waite- his knee worries me….
Hall- is he a 22 round consistant player???
Dangerfield- Preseason not too flash at all…
    Warren- he will grow!
    (Rockliff, Pods)

    36K left……..

a couple of Q’s, do i need more premium rookies on my EMG and do i need a Premium player for my Forward line??
    Thoughts anybody??…

  30. Morning all,
Have Morabito/Scully on midf bench, wonder if I would be better off looking at J.Strauss/Bastinac/Shuey/Moles/L.Jetta/Banfield or Barlow for the final two spots. On field, I have 4 prem’s & 2 rookies -Martin/Trengove.

Also thinking of trading Chappy for Goodes.

    My Midflied so far
Hayes, Selwood, Boyd, Watson, Ball, McVeigh, (Barlow, Bastinac) $51.8k left

    Hayes or Dal Santo?
    Ball or Griffen?
Vince?? Is he set for a big year?

    1. Not bad ,would probably avoid mcveigh best scores behind him
vince is a star leave out at your own peril.Take a punt on griffin
to finally live up to hype.better options in collingwoods mids than
      Ball .eg. pendles,swan.didak.hope this helpsl

  2. How many Rooks Should you start in the midfield? Every man and his dog is going to have Martin, but do you start another rook and with the extra cash top up your forward line

but not sure in what stead this is going to leave me

Complete topic change, but what is the go with Dangerfield, many injuries, and wondering if he is worth sitting in my forward line?

  4. Three things:
    1) Does anyone think Mitch Robinson-Carlton is a good player to get or is it too risky? [Rather than a 100k player]
    2) Would having Hille and Natanui be a good combo?
    3) What do you think of Medhurst/R. Gray

  5. What does everyone think about having 3 geelong players in the midfield? I’m thinking of having Ablett, Bartel and Kelly. Is it too many cats??

  6. Motts
    Cheers

Same price as a “standard pick” ziebell/dangerfield /ladson/hunt yet playing alot better.

    Thoughts??

    Rucks: Kruz, Seaby (stanley, McNamara)
Forw: Riewoldt, Higgins, Gray, Rob Murphy, Hall, Ziebell, Buchanan??? (Gumby, Rockliff)

  21. Does anyone truly understand this 3300 rule? What do live stats mean if it all has to be adjusted at the end of a game? How do they decide who should get the points? Is it just an even spread or does someone go “I think he played well lets give him some more points”?

  29. guys i need some valuable feedback…tell me my pros and cons, be as harsh as you like

    DEFENDERS-

    Goddard

    Any thoughts?

  31. First time player and you guys seem to be a wealth of knowledge . . . what are your thoughts on my midfield? I seriously have no idea!!!!

    My Midflied so far
Hayes, Selwood, Boyd, Watson, Ball, McVeigh, (Barlow, Bastinac) $51.8k left

    Hayes or Dal Santo?
    Ball or Griffen?
