R14 – Last Minute Nerves

Written by Motts on June 24 2011

Europe once said “It’s the final countdown”. Now they had no idea about SuperCoach but they could have been talking about these last couple of hours before R14 lockout. Is anyone waiting for the final teams to be announced before making their trades? If not, who have you brought in this week?

At this risk of firing up my opponents this week who read the site late on Fridays, I have traded Darling for Callinan and McGlynn (finally!) for Swan. At $450k and with both byes out the way, I just couldn’t resist him.

  1. Time for some good old fashion trade advice, going for the league win:

Out options are Heppell and Lower
In options are Shaw and Newman

All options are pretty equal, but I’m leaning towards Heppell to Shaw atm. Let me know in the comments guys, just need a push in the right direction.

  2. I’m very similar to yourself angry but I’m stuck between hurn and shaw. Hurn is in fantastic form but I’m worried his opposition had something to do with that and shows breakeven is 144

  3. Long Term Strategy

    Option 1:
Originally I was thinking to save 6-8 trades for finals to cover bye players and to tweak the team to in-form premiums. That would mean holding on with something less than premium team throughout the next 6 weeks. But would ensure you don’t run out of trades and be left stranded with LTI.

    Option 2:
Now, I’m thinking keep 4 max trades for finals (only using them for injuries in finals). I have 9 trades left. Thinking to use 5 in the next few weeks to get the team to tip-top premium form. Where possible, trading out final bye players (Car, Geel, Ess). Somewhat riskier but means the team is more solid earlier.

    What’s your long term strategy?

    Option 1 – Thumbs Up
    Option 2 – Thumbs Down

  4. Which is the best one to trade

    Thumbs up Danny Stanley

    Thumbs down Puopolo

Stanley has finished his buys and has very good job security
Puopolo has one bye to come but is playing some solid footy.

Keep in mind that the player left will become an emg. by finals time anyway.

  7. After seemingly copping two donuts early in the week I am now fielding a full team! Missing around 500 points worth of scoring, so not expecting a big total… Anything over 2100 and i will be happy…

  15. anyone thinking knights might be late out? he has a BE of 118 so if he plays, how much do you think he will go down. Say if he gets his average of 65? And is it worth trading him out just to avoid that price drop? I have 6 trades

  16. Off to the G for the game so good luck to all.
No changes to the We’reflyinghiiiiigh outfit this week with the easy draw in SCT1 league.
I officially hate DFOs. Any advice on how to get out of going to Chapel St tomorrow would be welcome (yes I do have a set of kahunas.)

  17. I’ve got a mate who I’ve been giving some advice to on SC (he is also a reader of this site). His side has been getting better and his lines are almost complete, but he has a ruck dud in Brogan. I suggested to him this week that in a few weeks time, if 211 has bottomed out, trade Brogan to 211 (he has enough cash). The whole week he’s been saying: “No, Brogs is a adequate Ruck 2 and should do pretty well, his a gun”. Since I’m not getting through to him, I really need some of you to help me. Tell my mate his crazy and should get 211!

  18. Here’s what I just got from the Twitterverse. Unconfirmed at this stage:

“Mzungu & Pav both face fitness tests late today & see how they pull up tomorrow….likely 1 will miss”

  19. Late change for Hawthorn: Murphy out, Cheney in. Sub is Bateman. Essendon unchanged. Sub is Melksham.

  20. So my team is just about done now. 6 trades left. One rookie in each line, all will stay untill finals. The.ln they’ll slowly make way for premiums in form, fingers crossed no injuries, of course. The only problem: I’ve got close to $2,000,000 warming the bench, with Buddy, Adcock, NRoo, Goddard and Fischer sitting this on out. It hurts doctor. IT HURTS!!!

  21. Quick question: given the above scaremongering about Pav and Mzungu, on who would you match Bewick and Darling as EMGs for?

Currently got Bewick for Pav, and Darling for Mzungu?

  24. Trades this round:

    Harris —-> Sylvia.
Heppell —-> (a very regrettable) Shaw.

In this case Brain > Heart.
    I still hate you Shaw.

Think I’ll be right this week.

  28. I am going to have a go at Essendon – I am an Essendon supporter.

Ryder and Hille what the hell are you doing boys? Get out of your beds and wake up. Stop being so bloody lazy.
Stanton, no wonder the fans hate you mate. You are supposed to be proving yourself for them.
Fletcher, stop trying to be an 18-year-old. Your like 360 years old. Don’t try and take your opponent on in a kick in from out on the full. You may have long arms but your not a fricken cheetah.
Mcveigh hit a target, same woith you Davey and Howlett.
Hirdy my man – why play Jobe in the forward line??? What are you thinking??? He is our number one midfielder and your hiding him in the full forward position. And stop playing 3 ruckman – Play Hille full-forward, Belly in ruck and change between those 2. If you have to play Ryder (which I don’t think you should) play him at the position he started at – DEFENCE!!!
Hurley, Zaharakis, Jetta, Heppell, Hibberd, Bellchambers, Pears, Lonergan, Hocking (you star) if we didn’t have you guys we would be down by 200 points already.
Welsh, Prismall, Monfries and Myers you guys are close to being sprayed at by Ollie.
I could go on about this all day. Sorry for clogging up the space but I had to do that 😉

  29. Early and brief injury news:
Rioli: tweaked hammy (history of hammys so expect the worst), Watson: hammy tightness, Myers: hammy, Sewell: left knee, medial damage, pretty serious one would think, Lonergan: also did his left knee medial.
Hammys and medials the story of the night, will cause a few headaches certainly for SCers.

  32. Read an article that some jock posted on fanfooty at 7.20pm saying mzungu was going to miss game, so I imPulse traded nick roo to boomer to cover a donut. I think the article was a load of garbage….. Should I be pissed?? Everyone else going Sylvia, so thought I’d try be different.

  33. To get the ball rolling…
    180/2/Ablett
Heppell (66) and Hodge (114) played.
    Here’s hoping Heppell’s doesn’t lose too much more $$$
The leader of the comp has Watson, and hoping many in the top 100 have Cyril also. Very disappointed I missed the Isaac Smith train. It has well and truly left the station. 3 tons in your first 4 games of AFL is incredible.

  35. 3 60’S in the backline already, this isnt good.
Im goin to need a few blinders i think.

What the hell should I do with ryder?
No money in the bank at the moment and not doing a double trade.

    Any options?

  36. 301/4/Jesus

  38. “For those with Rioli, Dr Larkins said he’s hammy is more of a strain then a tear like last time”. – Quote off a user off TS. Hopefully that is the case and it’s only a couple of weeks on the sidelines for Cyril. IMO, the sub rule is increasing the amount of injuries!

  39. Dear Matthew Pavlich,
Please pull out! My emergency is Isaac Smith and he scored a massive 112! Take the week off, and come back fit and firing.
