Time to trade out Collins?  Who to field at M8?  Why can’t I reverse trades after just two games?  How do I use Gawn’s 145 as Captain?  Can I use the emergency loophole with Stack?  Whatever you need to know, the SCT Coaches will help out where they can…….

  1. Tossing up between Scrimshaw and Duursma for D8. Both playing slightly weaker teams.
    TU – Scrimshaw
    TD – Duursma

  2. Want to take Ross’ score as emergency using Scott, who should I bench

    T/U – Sheed
    T/D – Constable

    1. Redden is injured and will not play tomorrow = potentially more time in the guts for Sheed. He may even be out for a few more weeks. Waterman taking his spot this week.

      1. Yeah exactly, Luke. If you’ve started him then great job and ride it out, but I wouldn’t be trading Rocky in.

        6

        1
        1. Rocky is still a great trade in. Averaging 104 with an injury affected 39 and priced at only 450k with a Break Even of only 31.
Rocky has a high ceiling and is averaging 128 from his 2 games at Adelaide Oval. Port also have the handy Round 12 Bye.
Collins to Rocky a no brainer for me.

  3. Staring down the barrel of a donut in my forward line with the prospect of Petruccelle out. Only rookie I can find is M Lewis from Hawks who’s played one game. Wishing I’d jumped on Baker now that Burgess is out
TU – trade out Burgess for Lewis if Petruccelle is dropped when teams are finalized tonight, and hope he doesn’t become a J Glenn
TD – not worth a trade, take the donut.

      1. Maybe he got RSI kicking all those goals last week, or has a sore back from carrying the eagles.

Seriously though, I haven’t heard anything about him not playing.

        1. He got a rising star nomination and kicked 5. They also need his pace. No way would he be omitted

  4. This plenty of people, myself included, will be conflicted over who to field at M8:

    T.U: Butters
    T.D: Gibbons

    24

    1. I like Gibbons if he plays the same role he did last week, pushing up the ground and getting more mid time, which should be the case. Only risk is if he gets stuck in that pressure forward role, which doesn’t bode well in SC terms.

      4

      1. That’s the issue I’m having. If I had certainty that Gibbons would be getting the same role then it wouldn’t be a problem, but he’s named FF this week- as opposed to HF last week.

        Hmm.

  5. What is Rothams Job Security? is there any logic in trading him in for Collins to free up some cash to upgrade elsewhere?

  6. Asked this on table for two as well, to take ridleys 74 I would have to bench
    T/U Duursma
    T/D Collins

  7. If Rotham is named do we pick him up?

I know he has shaky JS, but with Barass a confirmed out for the next 7-10 weeks surely that shaky JS improves ever so slightly.

    If named:
    TU – Collins to Rotham
TD – Hold Collins and wait for another option.

    6

    6
    1. Not named in the end so that answers my question. Really hope some decent defensive downgrade options emerge.

So annoyed Richmond played Wednesday, missed Stack /Ross as I needed a clearer picture of teams before trading.

    1. Same situation for me if only Bailey Scott was not versing Port! Hard to go past a rested Constable for me…

  8. I posted in trade talk earlier but since rotham has not been named so how can i make this happen still or should i pull the pin..

    considering a real shark move
Goldy too *def/fwd rookie* free up around 400k via a couple DPPs
O’brien would shift to my R2 hoping to get grundy in a few weeks when ROBs cash gen stalls at 450k i hope.
i’d have a 785k bank it would be nice to fix up a few holes in my side would allow a few upgrades across my 22. The 13 pt diff between goldy & ROB would be easily made up by the 3 premos i’d be able to get in with the cash.

    TU: go for it!
    TD: don’t be silly

    6
      1. who would i go too TrooRoo as my rookie?
Rotham not named, answerth only playing first game he worth going VERY early, how does mitch lewis look for JS? Alot of fuss about Corbett in preseason also.. just don’t know how to make it happen

    1. Hold the trade. Goldstein has decent match-ups to his bye and will likely improve his output and average between now and then, price-peaking at his bye, when you can then sideways trade to Reg.
Keep ROB at R3 who will keep making money but has some tough match-ups ahead.
I reckon making the trade now will cost you 25+ onfield pts/week on average.
Downgrade ROB when he’s fat to an Uber on another line and Goldy to Reg post-Rd13, maximising onfield pts through your byes. Same amount of trades, no risk and more immediate onfield pts.
By all means spend your current spare cash on an upgrade NOW! But I’d be looking at other lines if it were my team.

Good luck whatever you decide 🙂

      1
      1. PS just look at Rowan Marshall as an example. Was averaging 110-ish when he came up against big Max … he scored 50. I’m expecting lower scores from ROB with tougher match-ups (60s and 70s), whereas Goldy will be licking his lips at some of his match-ups as he approaches his bye.

        1. thanks for the reply AS i completely agree with what your saying and You may be right but a 800k bank will allow say 3 genuine premos in my squad in place of rookies.

          ie. collins/scrim -> LLoyd (use 300k) +40pts p/week
          Rozee -> Tkelly ( use 190k) +25pts p/week
          atkins/constable -> fyfe (use 250k) +45pts p/week
goldy -> ROB minus 25pts p/week as you predict ( closer to 10-15 imo)
so wouldn’t i be coming out close to 80 or so pts p/week ahead while gaining 3 uber premos…

Or am i gettting it all wrong i may be confusing myself haha
I think i have thought too much about it n fried my brain

          4

          0
          1. All those rookies are making money. All those premos are falling. You can still make those trades without having to trade Goldy I reckon.

Also think Goldy will ave. c105 to his bye from here and ROB c80 at best. It’s a big risk and unnecessary one in my book.

To hell with it, go for it. But don’t come crying if it all goes wrong! I’ll take no pleasure in saying I told you so! 😉

            3

            1. Hmm if I can find a decent enough rookie in def or fwd line before 7.50pm i think i might just do it AS 😉

  9. Have Clark to use as Defender Loop and just unsure which way around to play it
T/U: Have Duursma as my Emergency and drop Collins if he scores well
T/D: Have Collins as my Emergency and drop Scrimshaw if he scores well

  10. Got a dilemma.Do I take Moores 77 by putting Setters on for Miers,Petch or Parker,or do I swap Setters for Drew and take Stacks 72?If Moore who do I take off? Thanks muchly

    1. Pos’s Daughter.

      I would take Moore’s 77 forward.

I can’t really see any if the other guys beating that score easily.

Who to bench is a harder one.

Miers and Petruccelle are playing each other and Parker the Crows.

Petru has been improving and I think worth keeping on field.

      Parker and Miers… Who knows?

I either play the one with the higher average, or let the thumbs decide.

      Hope that helps..

  11. Basically, next week I want to trade Butters to Nat Fyfe, to make that trade I need approximately 300K this week. I would have loved to go Burgess -> Lockhart and Parker-> Baker but I missed that boat. So now my options are bringing in: Burgess-> Rotham or Answerth, and Parker -> Corbett.
    Thanks for the help!

  12. Sort of off base, but I’ll be able to make my first upgrade next week. Where should I start?

    1

    1
      1. Got Lloyd, Hurn, Williams + rookies down back. Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Crouch, Steele, Crouch, Walsh + rookies in the middle. Gawn n’ Grundy in the ruck, along with ROB. And, up forward, I’ve got Danger, Heeney, Darling (who I’m gonna persisit with), Moore + rookies.

So, which line should I upgrade first?

        1

        0
    1. In all seriousness, have you identified:
Who you MUST have by line? Then of those,
Who can I afford now? Of those,
Whose price is likely to drop in coming weeks (they can wait).
Who is left? Of those who will add (by average) the most pts to your weekly onfield score. Start there and work down!

      1. This bit quoted below is where I stuffed up last year (my first year).
“Who you MUST have by line? ”
Just so i get it. Avoid guys that aren’t top 8-10 material?
Last year, for instance I picked a lot of safe upgrades, like Zac Tuohey, who was never going to be a top 10 defender.

I *should* go after Caleb Daniels and Worpel if I think they’re top 10 forwards?
But I *shouldn’t* look at Seb Ross even though he has probably bottomed out price wise, cause he won’t be a top midfield?

Last year I slid from top 20,000 to top 35,000 over the season and would rather not repeat that.

        1. That’s my thinking anyway. The ones I don’t have that I definitely want NOW are:
          Lloyd
          Fyfe and
          TKelly

I’ll probably get Fyfe this week with a view to Kelly next week and Lloyd the week after. Priorities being based on current and likely future prices and BEs. Then onfield points gain. By getting the must-haves first, you also gain crucial time and more data to assess and identify who the lesser premos are that you will likely want to pick up.

Players like Boak, Hurn, Merrett and Macrae are also on my wish/target list, but aside from Fyfe, won’t be bringing in any Rd12 byemen until after their bye now.

          Hope that makes some sense.

          1. But to be able to upgrade to the fallen premiums we want, we need cash, and I can’t see that the rookies have made enough yet to be able to move them on. I’d be interested in knowing how much cash / bank that coaches started off the season with
            TU- less than $50k
            TD- more than 51k

I’ve only done the one trade, to get in ROB to generate some cash by the byes, and as much as I’d love to bring in a Fyfe or Boak or Laird, with under $10k to spend, can’t see how that’s going to happen for awhile yet.

            0

            2
            1. Fair point. I started with next to no bank. I’ve now made three trades, one corrective and two downgrades to what I think are decent rookies.
I now have just over $300K ITB.
If Hayes is named again next week, I’ll probably bring him and Fyfe in and have approx $230k ITB.
A lot can happen between now and the Rd after that, but I should have another two rookies ready to go. The same applies for the week after that. The trick will be using DPPs and finding decent downgrade options, to make the upgrades happen.

  13. Thinking about going Parker to Worpel… he’s been consistent over the first 5 rounds & could come up with a big score against carlton?

I have just enough $ to do it. & have 27 trades left.

    Thanks for any help !

    1. Options are: Rotham, Lachlan Young, Noah Answerth or a 100K rookie who could be used as a loophole option.

  14. AllSaints,

What is your highest rank finish and how are you travelling this year?
You seem to have alot of knowledge on SC and good advice to offer mate…

    1. 1900th last year. Currently 2000th.

All the advice is simply based on everything I’ve learned on SCT over the last 15months (since finding it). In the last off-season I did literally hundreds of hours of research (I love stats, modelling and SuperCoach) to try and frame and define certain strategies/approaches to various conundra.

I shared a lot of those nascent thoughts and ideas on here in the pre-season, but I’m still very much a beginner. I’m learning on the job; a lot and on a daily basis still.

If I feel I have an opinion that might be helpful, even if simply to give peeps something else to consider, then I’ll post it. It may not be right, but if it helps that SCTer make a better informed decision for their team, then it’s served its purpose. That for me, is the whole purpose of this wonderful site. Innit?!

There are literally hundreds of people on here doing the same thing. That’s the beauty of it isn’t it.

We all have our teams and know we can come here for advice and opinions, but ultimately they are our teams. And the decisions we make should be the ones we consider are right for us and our own teams.

    1. depends on where Gibbons is named mate (also hard to know for sure, as team lists are rubbish!) … but if he isn’t named at FF line, and more HF outside, he may be the go … pushing more in the mids lately and looking good …

      good luck with you choice

    1. Gibbons is named at FF currently but it means nothing. Go with your gut and good luck. If CCurnow is a late out, I’d probably go Gibbons. 50:50 otherwise.

      1. I know it’s a different team, but Chris Scott got asked in the presser last week about how silly some of the named team’s positions are. And he said he delegates it to someone. Got the impressi0n he wasn’t super happy with the ‘take the piss’ out come sometimes.

I swear most teams just give it the the weekly work experience kid.

  18. Who should I put in the field. Constable coming back makes me nervous.
    TU Constable
    TD Gibbons
    Pls comment.

    1. My guess is Yeo goes to Dangerfield and Chris Scott promptly sends Danger to full forward to stand amongst the seagulls and hutchings goes to kelly, leaving Constable ample mid time.

      1. Thanks Gra Pol. Constable is a guaranteed 70+. I was chasing Gibbons score as I missed out last week on his ton. He could be back to his usual this week. Needed to get it out of my system. Sanity prevails. Constable it is.

  19. Since Gray is set to be out for 4 weeks with a broken hand, will this lay any affect on the output of Boak? Does he move back to more of a fwd role or is it more midfield time if Port bring in a genuine fwd?

  20. I can loop Collins(66) & Parker(61)

    t/u – take the points
t/d – let it roll with Scrim and Petrucelle?

The Sunday curse is upon us!

  21. A long term question:
I tend to think most people are going to find round 12 easy to deal with, I know my team will. Is it worth keeping one of the port rookies, Drew for instance, (who have the round 12 byes) in the side so you know you can get a good score with them round 13 and 14, then cash them out?
I’m focusing on trading in some rookies with the round 12 bye so they’re in my team for round 13/14 to cover spots.
