Last Minute Selections

Written by on March 20 2020

Hey again

It seems we have a serious lack of rookies to contend with before final teams are announced for Sunday’s games later on this afternoon.  I thought it might therefore be useful to re-publish the Marsh Series best performers (by line) regardless of their starting prices.  If you need to make radical changes to have at least 29 playing this week, then it is probably worth doing, remembering that there are normally 13 non-rookie priced players who will make more than $100k.  Here are the numbers based on $/PPM.

DEFs

MIDs

RUCs

FWDs

… and here are a few more FWDs … there may be a bit of overlap!

Good luck all!  Bring it on!

    1. his SC proj’d score based on Marsh Series was 40.34. He will eventually lose money if he averages that!

          1. Hmm. I’ve got a spare 60k lying around after I offloaded Ash for Brander after he wasn’t named. Don’t know where to appropriate it now.

DEF: Lloyd, Sicily, Docherty, Noble, BZT, Brander [Starcevich, loophole]

MID: Macrae, Neale, J. Kelly, Cripps, Dunkley, Rowell, Green, Pickett [Anderson*, Brown, Robertonson]

            RUC: Grundy, Gawn [Conroy]

FWD: Whitfield, Petracca, Smith, Sturt, Cavarra, Budarick [Georgiades, King]

Any ideas? Have two 102k loopholes, so I should probably get them to a 123k rookies who’ll debut this week.

              1. Great minds think alike, Al.

I can keep Anderson, grab Bonar or Guthrie instead, or get rid of one of my loopholes and hold onto 50k.

                VERY conflicted.

            1. STARCEVICH > Zac GUTHRIE.
Word from GEE VFL coach is that he’s “been super-impressive and will likely be given 4wks to prove himself on the wing”.
His numbers are on a par with BZT at the same price!

            2. Hey GD – I too have Lloyd – any concern with him named in the centres and Dawson named at the back?? (pretty sure this is what happened at end of last season – he was named there and played there a bit but did not score well … )

            3. Hello GD, my ideas
              Starcevich is named
              Robertson to McInemey
FWD is full of slow burners, needs to be revamped, sorry but Gawn should go for mid prices like Brayshaw, Jones etc. Good luck.

  1. 2 cats guys Darcy Fort & Zach Guthrie quite left field options, If i had any faith that Fort could keep Stanley out he’d be a must have.

      1. Serious risk, but30 trades for 17 rounds let’s you take those bigger risk vs reward shots.

  2. If you could only have one of these ROOKIES, which one would you choose?

    T/U- Noble (COL)
    T/D- T.Green (GWS)

      1. Good. The main question is whether he can outperform others at a similar price range, eg Roberton, BZT, Guthrie

          1. He’ll a likely score better than BZT and Robbo on role alone. Sorry mate but disagree. I’d also put Z Guthrie ahead of all of them!

  3. last rookie bench spot:
    sturt – TU
    ben davis – TD

not overly fussed on scoring as i know both won’t do to much for me, more worried about JS

  4. Roberton and Williams (not selected and on my bench) T/U
    vs.
    Z. Guthrie and Starcevich (selected and on my bench) T/D

  5. Kreuz out 16 weeks.

Worth saving some cash for Pittonet? Or anyone think that Casboult will continue in the ruck?

    1. Pretty sure Carlton brought in Pittonet purely as backup for Kreuz, so he could be worth a look if you’ve got the spare funds.

    1. The game is unlocked till the start of tonight’s game. U can trade all players except for the ones that played last night richmond and Carlton. Once tonight’s game starts u won’t be able to trade tonight’s players until after the round is finished, late Sunday night.

      1. if they haven’t played you can trade them until their side has. It’ll cost you no trades right up until the last game.
        But DON’T CHASE POINTS 😉

  6. Is Mcasey worth it

I’m thinking downgrade him to Gould as I believe he will play fairly early
The extra 70k will allow me to either upgrade oliver to Neale
And Davis (Adel) to Geogriades who I feel has better job security
Or I keep Oliver and upgrade jelly to Neale

    1. My guess is Mcasey goes out as soon as Doedee is available.
I would much rather Oliver over Neale though.
Davis has the better JS of the two, Geogiades goes out as soon as Dixon comes back.

  7. What’s Brown’s (COLL) job security like? I’m guessing he’s only getting a gig til Treloar comes back, which is only a week or two away.
Wondering if its worth swapping Brown for Guthrie (via Starcevich)? Or save the 70k and just keep Brown.

    T/U: Brown
    T/D: Guthrie

    1. Depends what you’re planning to do with the 70k. With all the trades we have now, picking a dud rookie or two is not the big deal it usually is

  8. A couple of last minute trades, would appreciate some advice.

    Taylor or Sturt in Fwds?
    Currently have Sturt…

McInerney or Brown in the Mids?

Both players are bench cover only…

    Cheers…
Currently have McInerney based on JS

    1. Taylor easy, was really impressive in Marsh 2.
Sturt still a better option than others (Davis, Georgiades, Cavarra etc)

McInerney has better JS, Swans like to play rookies.

  9. TU: Roberton(D4) Noble(D5)BZK(D6) Starchevic and Gould
    Jacobs(R2)
    (Brayshaw(F3) Smith(F4) Brander(F5) Taylor(F6)

    TD: Noble(D4) BZK(D5) Starchevic(D6) Williams and Gould
    Gawn(R2)
    Smith(F3) Brander(F4)Taylor(F5)Budarick(F6)

    1. Yeah, rough night.

Macrae and Dunkley for me. Not to worry, bounce back next week v Carlton and still end up Top 8.

  10. Still unsure what to do with D8:

TU: B.Williams WC (D/R) – may get games in future
TD: B.O’Connor (D/F) 102k – provides flexibility to swing with Brander in Fwds

Comment: No D8 loophole – move Brander from Fwds to Def bench & play Sturt/Davis type @ F6

    Many thanks!

    1. Comment option, its what I did. Given we’ve just about got 2 trades per week, might as well start all the playing rookies, even if they’re not great.

      1. Who’s your 7-8?
Can you loop them. Due to no cheapies i’m running a 102 loop in the back line.

  11. I think I’m pretty set with my rookies for midfield and defense but the forwards are doing my head in a bit. I would prefer to use a loophole in the mids but based on what’s available in the mids, I think it’s better on another line.

DEF – Roberton, ZGuthrie, BZT / Brander, Starcevich.
MID – Rowell, TGreen, Pickett / TBrown, McInerney, Budarick.
    RUC – Xerri
FWD – Taylor, Davis, King / Georgiadis, Sturt.

I know those FWD rookies will be slow burners but options are limited this year – are any of those guys a bad idea (i.e., a loophole would be preferable).

I have some flexibility with positioning but I like having Budarick in the mids (so I have the DPP link) and prefer Brander in the back as I don’t see another DEF rookie (unless I put the loophole there).

TU – These rookies are good enough, no changes / loophole needed.
TD – Get rid of one of the FWD rookies (who?) and have a loophole in the FWD line.
