Late Changes?

Written by Motts on March 25 2011

So there’s less than 10 hours until you’re totally locked out from your side. Will you be making any final changes today? Who’s being gently ushered to the back door and who’s having a guernsey presentation this afternoon?

  1. Motts, question open for discussion. Put Gibbs as VC yesteday and with 138 that is a pretty reasonable captains score. Should I leave my team without a captain or should I bank on Swan putting up more than 138 against a crappy side like Port?

  2. What are people’s thoughts on the absence of Michael Hibberd? Do we think he’s worth hanging onto, or will his injury keep him out for a while? If we get rid of him, who would be some good options to swap for?

  3. Note: As he’s a DPP, I already have Lower, Duigan, Stanley, Toy, Bewick & Harris in the similar price range (as well as Heppell, Swallow, Otten, Krakouer & Prestia).

    What’s left?

  4. We are getting some RIPPING names on the site today.

I can’t work out if I like this or Foxy Redlegs better.

  5. The real question is, Is Hibberd injured? and if so how long is he out for?. If someone knows the answer please inform us asap.

  6. Heard a whisper it could be 3-4. Only a whisper I know, but if it’s true he’ll be a perfect downgrade around RD7 or 8. I’m holding off on him for now. (I’ve already got Heppell in MIDS)

  7. I reckon he looks pretty safe. Been plenty of talk from the Dogs about him and he’s been named on the ball. They have pretty much their full list of onballlers too.

  8. heres my dilemma.

Currently have SWAN in my midfield and playing Conca, Heppel and either Irons or Bewick.
    Swallow (GC) on bench.
    Loaded up my other positions.

The thing is, Swallow isnt playing this week and ill have 2 weeks to assess his performance before seeing if he is worth picking up. in the meantime, my midfield looks weak.

    Should i:

    a) Keep Swan and have Conca, Heppell, Bewick play with Swallow on the bench.
    OR
    b) Swap Swan for Pendlebury, swap Swallow for Callan Ward, which would give me a stronger midfield to start with, although downgrading Swan to Pendles….Ward will most likely go better than either Heppell or Bewick, and Pendles could easily do as well as Swan if all goes to plan.

    Thoughts?

  10. Hibberd out and libba in, coz I have bucks in the back and Heppel in the mid. Hoping libba can keep his gig on ball.

  11. Depends if you are going for league or overall? Overall, trade. League, could consider keeping if you have cover and want to take advantage of MPP

  12. i moved heppell from back to mid and made lester my new back as you should make all your team play round 1 besides your gold coast pics of course

  13. Is Irons a good POD or safer to go libba?? Had Hibberd but injury will be good downgrade target come later on

  14. Selwood or Bartel, I have Selwood at the moment, but downgrading would free up some money to trade Otten… thoughts?

  15. Libba is named in the on-field team as a rover so you would think that the doggies have a bit of faith in him.

  16. Agreed. Look at their injury list, not many would replace him. I expect him to play well and become a permanent onballer.
    Bewick out Libba in.

  18. I am stmped on my fourth rookie choice in the forwad line. I have Richardson, Darling and Matera. Considering:
    – Tapscott (not sure on JS)
    – Dixon (good JS, question mark on a decent score)
    – Prestia (not sure he will get a run early)
    – Other?
    Any sugestions.

  19. what’s the goss on Isaac Smith for the Hawks, want to hold onto him all intetntions he can play plus his dpp appeal, but worried he be collecting splinters for too long. any thoughts appreciated including replacements

  20. I reckon Tapscott, highly rated at Melbourne and would have played last year if he didn’t get injured.

  21. The sub rule is going to give us all a weekly nervous wait but I think it is too early to make drastic calls. If he is a sub with low scores in the first two games you can always swap him out for another crow, GC or roo player who also would have only played two games also. I do not think that wil be necessary though.

This is Dream Team, not SC, but, there are spots left for any of you SCT folk that are looking for a league to join.

  23. Hibberd > Pederson
    Puopolo > Coad
    Keeping I Smith for DPP
    Keeping Bewick.
I can’t see the Doggies kids having regular JS in that midfield. Look at Moles last year. This is Rocket’s last chance to win a flag with them.

  24. I reckon Bewick mate. Savage will be good this year and will get a few games over the journey but will more than likely be out Rd2 for Hodgey.

  25. Libba’s impressive preseason has seen him go past wallis, all the bench players and is named as a follower. I see no reason why his form will slump now. If he performs he will stay – could be like Blair last year.

  26. Libba was not in my team all preseason until yesterday. We all thought he would get a chance mid year, seems he impressed enough to have a run in rd1.
If he can play well this week, they next play Brisbane and GC which will be good for his scores.

  27. I know everyone has been Hibbarding today, but cant find an answer to my question, have in the backline with lower, otten, coad and duigan – any other good options, non-GWS to swap Hibbard for. Going with Hibbard as a trade down option, since he will come in through the VFL and we wont see him till rnd 8 i reckon.

    Any ideas?

  28. Currently have Polec on my mid bench but wondering if i should swap for someone else – maybe gaff or bewick ? Any suggestions?

  29. If you really needed to trade Otten you could go with O’Brien from the Lions. Starting on the ground, FWD/DEF and 10k less.

But I’m with the majority… Otten all the way.

  30. Kernal
Cooney was named in a Fwd pocket as well but highly unlikely he won’t start in the guts. Wallis was named on field in the team they gave CH9 on Wed night and everyone jumped on him then as well (inc. G Lyon!) Rocket has a history of playing ducks and drakes with the media. The only teamsheet that matters is the one submitted to the AFL 90 mins before bouncedown.
I’m not trying to be a naysayer – just giving an alternate view and I think my points above are valid.

  31. Anyone have nathan fyfe? Named in the center. Had a good preseason, but does anybody else think he’ll have a kelly rippa of a year?

  32. A few things…Hibberd has got me reel scared and i dont feel good taking buckley just to preserve the DPP…need more ideas from you guys please. libba is way ahead of wallis in ability to play RIGHT NOW…only, r eade is a twot when it comes to younguns…im gonna back libba, cos hes a tackler. More about Lester please…?anyone. am v worried abt otten but guess hes cheap enough to risk, even as a sub, early days. we always know you cant trust Neil Craig David, thats why i cant make myself take Smith in defence… i def think savage is a possible gun and cashbringer but cant trust jeff kennet or alistair nerdface…pity, id take him otherwise. Is Tapscott really gonna stay in the team? Is bewick? Please discuss…

  33. Valid points Deano, who knows what these coaches think from week to week. I think they will play him and that he is ahead of the bench players and Wallis at this stage.
I think his security is as strong or stronger than Bewick who may also be out in a couple of weeks if they lose a couple of games and want to give Polec a chance.

  34. Dunno who Max is…Deegz, forget Fyfe, even tho hes awesome…but i like the mention of kelly, james (cats)…hes gonna be a prem=ium mid possibly…not that ill take him…

  35. duigan on bench as emergency at present with otten on the field and some GCers on the pine waiting to come on…

  36. what do we reckon on atley and mckernan as they r both named to start.. worth having atley in the mid say over bewick and mckernen over someone like buckley in the backline?

    0

    0
  37. cougs – nice thinkin. i get it. i cant be sure otten will get a full game. duigan scored abt 60, leave him, be happy.
grinder – dont grind out those two, both are duds i reckon. atley is all talk (not his, the medias), and mckernan is a 40pt man every week. buckley is a risk, and may pay off, or may be an early tradewaste..?

    0

    0
  38. Lower and Otten still to pay but have Duigan as an emergency who scored 60 odd. Do i play one of the GC boys and take Duigans points? Gees, Dilemmas …

    0

    0
  39. chose to go with toy actually, probably safer that he will get games. i have the cash to ditch bewick for some1 like gaff? 234k to spend. will zach smith play or should i get pertrie in there in stead of in the foward line?

  40. Adelaide hasn’t settled on a substitute player for its clash with Hawthorn at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night, but Craig has already touted defender/midfielder Andy Otten as a perfect candidate for the role.

First-round draftee Brodie Smith will make his debut against the Hawks and Craig didn’t rule out easing the dashing wingman into the game as a sub.

“I don’t think it would be unfair on Brodie. It could be a good way to go,” Craig said.

“I’ve really enjoyed Brodie’s form in the NAB Cup and he fits in with what our agenda and charter is as well. We want to make up some ground [on the competition] but we also need to keep feeding people into our footy club as well.”

    0

    0
  41. Why trade Otten? Because he might be a sub this week? Even if he is, do you think that he’ll be a sub every week? Hold onto him. He’ll make you money.

  42. Ive got cameron bruce and questioning whether i should keep him as a premium, i already have goddard and grimes still to play…… who could i swap him for?

    and…gaff or libbatore?
Ive been here all day! (its ok , its my day off!!)
    great help tho everyone

  47. ROK, instead of both, Stevie J doesn’t have the mentality to turn himself into an elite, Sylvia been in the system nearly 9 years, he’s at his peak, go with ROK at the Swans, avg 90 last year but that was mainly due to few injuries and Roos had him tagging few times. he will step up!!

    0

    0
  48. i have harris , swallow, atley ,gaff and conca (already played) aswell as my 3 premiums

do i swap one for libbatore?

i have had those 5 from the start arghhhh!!

  49. Should i keep Boak and Dangerfield? And if not any ideas who to downgrade to?

->If Gibbs if my VC and i have no player with the captain label i get the double points right?

    0

    0
  50. I had ROK last year. Too inconsistant. Sylvia could finally thrive if he remains healthy and if the Demons improve as they’re supposed to. Stevie J – kicks them from anywhere, apparently going to play in the midfield more this year.

  51. I’m sure you’ve all heard, Neil Craig said that Otten would be the perfect sub. So what are your thoughts?
Otten in starting line-up: THUMBS UP
    Heppell: THUMBS DOWN

    0

    0
  52. I’d like to know about having no captain too, does it mean Gibbs as VC takes the captains points without a captain named so I can bring Lower on instead of taking Duigans 70 as the emg.?

    0

    0
  53. That’s a hard one, because Libba is named as a strarter but will be competing with Sherman, Picken, Wallis and Djuerkka for spots. Irons will probably get a game and is $10k cheaper. Irons… JUST.

    0

    0
  54. Made a few changes, now have buckley, tapscott and atley.

Whats everyones thoughts on Tapscott? In for one game or a likely regular starter?

  55. Read it somewhere on here earlier today that all your bench players should be playing this week unless they are GC. I tend to agree with this philosophy myself. Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Take what you know, cause you don’t know what will happen with Puopolo over the course of the season.

    0

    0
  56. I played against Libba last year, he gets a ton of the ball on his day. so i am going with him. never heard of this Irons bloke 😛

  57. Are people really considering putting Otten on the bench?

And does anyone think Lower will outscore Duigan this round?

    0

  58. hell be alright this year, not sure if he will get much more than 10 games with melbourne wanting to develop jurrah and watts in particular

ive currently got him and sandilands but any alternatives i should consider?

  60. Who are people going for the last ruck spot. I’ve already got Smith. Is anyone else even named to play?

    0

  61. Ouch! Thanks PA!
Who really knows, I was sure Gaff would play and reports say he is out.
I may have to bring the coin out because both Libba and Bewick are both worth a shot as is Atley.
    We will see.

  62. Gold Coast double will probably be the most common R3/R4 combo in Smith/Tippett. Tippett purely because he provides good R2 bye coverage when teamed with Petrie.

  63. Guys one last thing…
Out of the four, which of darling, tapscott, dixon and prestia would you take?
Concerened about prestia and tapscotts JS, opposed to dixon who looks solid, but may have a lower ceiling (like gumbleton)

  64. Today my ins and outs:
IN: Buckley – Lester – Liberatore – Markovic – Adock
    OUT: Puopolo – Hibberd – I. Smith – Lamb – Shaw

had to rejig my reserves and in the end was forced to take out Shaw and bring in Adcock to free up some cash in the reserves and still have 90,000 spare, could take Adcock out again for someone but I’ll keep him for now.

  65. It’s only Round 1, don’t go savaging your team for a few ins and outs in Round 1. Stay calm and trust the work you’ve done before now.
    Good Luck to all.

  66. Gaff not playing has thrown a spanner in the works!
What do you guys think of a trading Gaff upto Liam Shiels? It’s a very unique choice…
Averaged 100 in the NAB Cup (110 and 90) and is $228,700.
Will get games and looks to make you some money.
Having a serious thinkg about this….

    OR:
I could bring in Callan Ward, will get games and also looks to improve. But that’ll only leave him with $5k in the kitty :\

Where as Shiels will leave me with $50,000.

  67. Hold up!
Found a way to sneak Mitch Duncan in my team.
Downgrade Smith (DPP) to Irons. Smith was purely in the team for DPP status.
The good news is…. Duncan is a DPP too! And SHOULD improve as he’ll play more games. Ah last minute gut decisions before lockout, gotta love ’em.

  68. What I’ve done for this round JW, is I’ve put Otten on my bench as an emergency, just to see what Neil Craig does with him. As he most likely will be a sub.
Not sure if it’s enough to let go of him just yet. But if he is a sub and you’ve gotten rid of him before R1 you’ll be laughing in our faces… upto you.

  69. Whats peoples thoughts on R Shaw this year? He’s a sydney player so will play all your league games, is playing Malceski’s role of last year off a half back flank and avg 92 in 09 and then 70 last year after becoming a forward when sexy and kennelly were tearing it up. Thumbs up or down???

    Burgoyn and Higgins= thumbs up

Rioli and JP Kennedy = thumbs down

  71. Extra 5 minutes will be crucial haha, thanks PA.

Shiels- Cheaper, good NAB form. Played 2 games for 100 ave.
Duncan- DPP, good NAB Cup form. Played 3 games for 85 ave.

  74. Same.
Poll is 3-0 in favour of Shiels.
But for some reason I’m liking Duncan. Will get more run in the midfield and his spot is just a tad more cemented than Shiels’.

  77. Immediately subbed as well so those who had Milburn in their side will benefit.

If Ray gets weeks for that I’d be surprised. Just a clash on the footy field with no malice intended… Selwood just stuck a hand in there and paid the price.

Sounds bad but he did tap the ball away with said hand and Ray was over the ball.

  78. I had him, did a bit of tweaking Thur night and put Gibbs in his place, so I could swap him with Goddard should the need arise. Also brought in Judd, think I have spent too much time chatting to Motts…! forget who else I took out, now! haha! I changed it so many times.
    Happy with Lenny!!!
