  1. Daisy to Carlton is good news for the SC community.

He would’ve had to pass a pretty inquisitive physical regarding his ankle to get a four-year deal. One huge step closer to joining my 2014 SC forward-line now.

  2. How does this Crappy compo stuff work.

Thomas goes to Carlton and Collingwood get pick 11.

Buddy goes to Sydney and we get pick 20 something absolutely RIDICULOUS.

  4. Matt White signing with Port, basically, for the chance to play without being the sub.

If that happens (makes the starting 21 week-to-week), then he presents an intriguing prospect. Averaged 56 this season, so will be priced somewhere around (or likely just over) the $300k mark.

Games this year where he wasn’t the sub:

    R5 vs Fremantle – 71
    R10 vs West Coast – 95
    R16 vs Gold Coast – 58
    R17 vs Fremantle – 62
    R18 vs Sydney – 72
    R19 vs Hawthorn – 80
    R20 vs Brisbane – 99
    R22 vs GWS – 107

That’s an average of 80.5. Ultimately he will probably be $50k-$100k too expensive for people to want to start with, but a 25ppg increase in scoring average would make him a nice stepping stone to a Fallen Premium.

  5. With the retirement of Max Bailey, Buddy Franklin off to the Swans and Mumford all signing with GWS, the Hawks ruck combination for 2014 is very much up in the air.

You’d think that Roughead would need to play almost entirely forward now, with Gunston and Hale his tall target partners. Hale continues in his role as the number two ruckman, but they still need a number 1.

If Billy Longer does end up at the Hawks, he could be a great R3 for 2014. Averaged 51.7 from only four games last year, so could well get a discount to around a 40 average. Definitely somebody to keep in mind if he does get to Hawthorn.

  6. Saints better come up with a good reason why they got rid of McEvoy, could not believe that news. I knew it was going to take a few years to get competitive again, but I don’t think this is the way to go,coming up to his best years. Must be something we don’t know about. Membership will go down next year for sure.

  7. Saints going all out for the wooden spoon next year. Part of their five year plan must be some tanking for priority picks. What a terrible decision……..

On the upside, McEvoy for SC Ruck next season. Should score well in a winning side

  8. Seriously what the $&$@ is happening a saint kilda! Whilst I really rate Savage, he’s no McEvoy. McEvoy is going to be a great ruckman and a potential leader of the club. I think they got shafted in there deal. Although I have zero respect for a club that has offered up some of there clubs legends and leaders for trades. Yes chase draft picks, but some players are off limits.

  9. File this under, “Don’t you just love the world we live in!”

Brian Lake on the Hawks getting Ben McEvoy:

“I haven’t seen him play that many times but I do a bit of SuperCoach and he’s a handy pick-up in SuperCoach so he’s going to be a great asset,’’ he said.

I know that he wouldn’t have had anything to do with the recruitment/trade process, but still, I love the idea that anybody would trade for a player based purely on the SuperCoach output.

  10. Interesting set of trade rumours at the moment.

Docherty to Carlton probably isn’t that big as SC news, but he would be a great get for Carlton, especially if it only costs them a pick in the late 20’s.

Chapman to Essendon would be interesting, both from a purely football perspective and from a SC point of view. I don’t think anybody would trust his soft tissue, but Chappy played six full games last season and finished with five 100s. 108 average from those full games and we saw BJ switching to the Bombers didn’t effect his SC negatively, so Chappy could be a very high risk PoD next season.

Jolly to St Kilda basically rules out Hickey as a viable option. It would annoy me as a Saints fan too, just because it looks like replacing a young star with a one-year rental. Also, the more I think about it, the more that I believe the Saints must (a) believe this to be a good – and deep – draft class and (b) that Savage can be a very good player. They must, or else trading a young star for a late teens pick and Savage makes zero sense.

Vince to Melbourne is basically SC irrelevant. It’d be a positive sign for the Demons though, attracting a high quality person and good player, but lets be honest, it’s far from the ‘midfield star’ recruit that they have been hoping for.

Gumby and Crameri both look likely to leave Essendon. Gumby is surplus to requirements so, as an Essendon fan, I’d be happy if we got something of even small use for him and genuinely wish him well wherever he ends up.

With Crameri, I really hope Essendon don’t be stupid and refuse to trade him for what we think is under the odds. Without first or second round picks this season, any pick in the top 25 is better than nothing. Learn from Adelaide last year. They didn’t want to take Jesse White as part of a trade for Tippett because they believed it wasn’t a fair trade. Then Tex Walker went down and White looked great at times in 2013. How much did they wish they had done that trade?! I don’t want to see Crameri leave, but he wants out and we need draft picks, so don’t be pigheaded and just take a much needed pick in the first couple of rounds of the draft, Bombers!

Of the recent news, the biggest potential for SC gold is Xavier Ellis. He’s been horribly injury prone in the last few years, but if he is to leave the Hawks and get a spot in a sides 21, then we are looking at:
    – A 26-year-old;
    – Who has 80 games of AFL experience;
    – Who has had four seasons averaging 73 or over; and
    – Most importantly, who should be available at the price of a rookie.

He only had the two games this season, being vested in both of them and averaging 21.5.

It’s very early, but the likes of Ellis, Morabito and Claye Beams could be very popular (and very cheap) midfield picks next season next to Jack Martin. All four of them don’t present as the greatest green vest player, which is a plus too.

  11. Read the Sun this morning and i’m more pissed off with the Saints thinking of getting Jolly. They sent out big e-mail explaining there plans but I still don’t get it.

  12. The Saints might be trying to get young Boyd the more I think about it and pick 17 and a player or 2 might be what they are up too? Wishful thinking.

  13. Sodes, would you take either of: –
GWS give up: Pick 1 (Boyd) + Josh Bruce
Saints give up: a) Pick 3 + Sam Fisher OR b) Pick 17, Fisher & Montagna

With a declared rebuild underway getting say Boyd (1) & Kelly (3) would be a good way to get the mighty Saints back into a flag window in 3 to 4 years time with Steven etc reaching his straps then. Would also certainly take option a) myself, but could not see GSW being keen.

  14. Dead right Andy B , I can’t explain it right but that’s what i’m thinking so i’m hoping GWS go for this.I can handle losing McEvoy if this could happen, This is there plan to rebuild with the young blokes but we have to get some good young fella’s in return for mcevoy. Gees it’s hard being a saints member but that’s what life is about, so toughen up saints supporters we have a few tough years ahead of us.

  15. Just reading over the latest news, piecing together some potential moves and I’m now wondering what people would think of this trade:

Essendon trades: Pick 22 (from Western Bulldogs via Crameri trade), Pick 33 (from Fremantle via Gumbleton trade) and David Myers

St Kilda trades: Leigh Montagna and Pick 37

Montagna will be 30 by the time the next season roles around, so getting a 24-year-old midfielder, an extra second round pick and moving their third round pick up to a second round one, doesn’t seem like a particularly bad deal for him. They are keeping Hayes to mentor the younger brigade of midfielders, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see them take something for Montagna this trade period.

    Thoughts?

Also, is it just me, or does it seem like Essendon rate their list very highly? Looking at bringing in Montagna and Chapman (two 30-year-olds) basically says: We want a flag now. I’m just not sure that they would be enough to bridge the gap between what we saw this season and the top 4.

  16. GWS give up: Pick 1 (Boyd) + Pick 35 + Taylor Adams
    Pies give up: Pick 10 + Pick 11 + Pick 27 + Heath Shaw

Pipe dream that gives GWS 3 selections inside the top 11, and 5 selections in the top 30 plus an experienced defender. Pies get a big forward for the future, and a young talented midfielder, plus a pick as a 3rd rounder as a bonus.

    Thoughts?

  17. Mcevoy will be interesting. At the Saints he took many marks though his ruckwork wasnt the greatest .
At the Hawks they have many players who can take marks or deliberately spoil unlike Saints so i dont know what his role will be other than centre bouncedowns etc.
The Hawks defence is tight and so is there fwds.
The NAB will show what his role will be .
He may have a ” reduced score ” re SC if the Hawks players take the marks he used to do at the Saints .
His tap work to advantage was weak so he will have to improve immensley to help the Hawks.
Spangher is 195 cm and Mcevoy 200 cm so Spangher may be used more around the ground
Our smalls read the Grand Final taps off sandi and will always do so and to other rucks as well.

  18. Marley Williams for the Pies has a court case coming up re alleged assault breaking a mans jaw .
Williams has pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to the man during a fight outside a nightclub in December last year.

The trial is for 5 days and will be in December 2013 at Albany Western Australia.
This will be interesting to see what his future will be re playing AFL .

  19. Okay, everything is done and dusted trade wise.Out of all the trades done which will have the most significance supercoach wise.meaning ppg? I’m thinking Jackson Paine well get a regular gig at the lions and may be entering into his prime years.should be able to pick him up for under 150 k next year, will he be worth it? If not him who do you think?
