Lockout Format Poll

Written by Motts on April 17 2015

One of the ‘benefits’ of SuperCoach is the rolling lockouts allowing coaches to sub players on and off the ground at the last minute should they not get up at the last minute from an injury, be named the sub, or get hit by the team bus as they get dropped off at the ground.

I’ve put benefits in inverted commas above because I’ve got a mate who stopped playing SC after they introduced rolling lockouts because it was just too much effort to keep track of late changes when he was out and about on the weekend with his family.

He was much happier with everyone being on an even playing field with a Friday night freeze on making changes to teams.

If you’re on the ball, rolling lockouts can give you a real advantage. But you can’t be on the ball every weekend – not if you’ve got an active social life anyway.

So I thought I’d do some research – which lockout format do you prefer?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. I think it becomes less of an issue as the season goes on. Round 1 you need to be monitoring it all weekend to insure the right rookies are picked and by round 20 you’re just hoping that you have 22 players named.

  2. The rolling lockout can be painful at times. I thought it would be great if there was a Supercoach app that could send you a mobile alert when one of your selected players was a late out….

  3. Friday Night anyday, hate the rolling lockouts even though i use the loopholes, it’s a case of always checking phone to see if late outs and stuff doesn’t go to well with the mrs lol

  4. Not really fussed either way. They were brought in because the outcry was so loud with all the late changes.

  5. Yep, as per most of the comments above for me too Mottsy (prefer lockout)!!

Only my third season in and I considered quitting it this year for precisely that reason. It really does just get too hard and create all kinds of angst at home. Fortunately this year I have succumbed to the inevitable ‘age factor’ and retired from all my competitive sport, so that frees up some time, but with missus, family and other lifestyle choices it makes it very hard to keep up with and remain competitive, week in week out. Case in point last weekend was my godmother’s 80th function … I was not looked on favourably checking my phone constantly all day!!! (I do NRL supercoach as well!)

For me, bring back Friday lockouts … then everyone on a level playing field and it purely comes down to your research and best selections … oh, and the 30% luck factor!!!

    Cheers all!!

  6. I don’t mind it too much – there are a couple of Facebook groups/pages I’ve “liked” that provide updates as they come to light. A quick check half an hour or 15 mins before each game is usually all it takes, and that can be done from my phone with minimal fuss.

That being said, removing the sub rule makes that a little less critical anyway – as that’s the primary issue when adjusting which rookies will be on field. Late withdrawals are usually a one-week thing, so trading isn’t generally a good idea anyway.

  7. I struggle with a rolling lockout as I work most weekends and my mobile is crap.

Ditch the sub-vest and the rolling lock-out on 2016!

  8. Mate, hate rolling lock out. Love supercoach… don’t get me wrong, but don’t we also have a life outside supercoach world? My workplace mates playing supercoach nearly decided not to do this year.

  9. Loved the old system. Panic trading right up until the first bounce on a Friday, cracking a beer and que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be. Everyone was in the same boat, you could enjoy your weekend, pay a bit more attention to those around you and come back on a Sunday night to survey the damage.
I think the herald sun could half the prize money and run two comps with and with out the rolling lockout. Won’t happen though as the rolling lockout means that people are on there site all weekend and therefore they are maximising their advertising revenue.

  10. Also I hope this ground swell against the sub rule is noticed by the powers that be and it is ditched next year

  11. I often get in trouble for being on my phone during weekends lol. Either way doesn’t worry me. It takes 30 secs to check for late outs. But while there’s the sub rule it’s better with the rolling lockout.

  12. I’m actually quite shocked at the general response here.
A very small amount of effort (if you have a smart phone and 15 seconds before each game) allows you to potentially significantly improve your score.
I am a huge fan of the rolling lock out
