Looking Ahead To 2021

Written by The Salamander on September 9 2020

Are there any players you’re tipping to breakout next year? Or possibly to drop off?

Know of any rookies worth keeping an eye on?

Think someone might pick up DPP-status?

Is there a fallen premium we’ve all forgotten about?

Or perhaps there are certain players you’re definitely starting/not-starting?

Or some important lesson you’ve learned from this season?

  1. I can see Lukosius becoming a premium next year. High draft pick averaging ~89, takes kick-ins and is entering his 3rd year, while further developing. Is a beautiful user of the football, and could easily average 95-100+.

    1. Definitely. Unfortunately, the SC system can’t really measure things like vision and decision making, because he’d be off the charts if it could.

    2. He’ll go forward at some stage. Natural forward, played there in SANFL seniors as a 17yo, kicked 4 on debut in a losing prelim. Then kicked 14 goals in 13 games in his draft year in between carnival duty. He’s a gun

  2. Having headed home from Queensland, Carlton’s Liam Stocker won’t play this year, and so should be around $170K next year. He had moved into the midfield at training beforehand, so definitely one to keep an eye on.

As to breakouts, I’m tipping Sam Walsh to continue his recent form into next year. SPS and Zac Fisher will also be turning 23 next season, so look at their roles over the pre-season to see if either is looking SC-friendly.

    1. If Fyfe does get a DPP status he’d probably make the team, otherwise I have a strong chance of not starting him as he always finds a way to miss a couple of games. Will be more brought in after his typical injury break

      1. That makes me think CD might go for it – they like to tweak these things so that gun players don’t end up in 100 percent of teams, and with a lot of coaches swearing off Fyfe because of all his injuries, making him available as a forward would throw a cat right in amongst the pigeons.

  3. For coaches (especially me) to see the names of J Kelly and Z Williams and A Treloar and N Fyfe pop up as player suggestions when filling in my 2021 team and to say “NOT LIKELY – you are on my NEVER AGAIN list after letting me down, again, in season 2020, when I traded you in against my better judgement.”

  4. Anthony Miles might be worth a look next season as a midpricer. Spent all this season on the sideline and was predicted to make his way back midseason but didn’t occur.
Body should be good for next season and a cheaper price. Currently 450k
Him and potentially Rowell another target to look at

  5. Nic Newman another potential target after playing 2 games this season for a total of 47 points. Those 2 games he had an elbow injury Rd1 then a patella tendon injury rd2

  6. Rowell’s going to be super expensive for a 5 game player but will also be super cheap for a potential keeper. Probably worth the risk.

  7. I think next year will be the year that to do well in overall Rankings you will need to find mid priced value.

Reason for this is the abundance of rookies that have been given debuts this year. So many players that have played Less than 3 games and probably only been given debuts due to condensed season.

Another to keep an eye on is Naismith again from Swans and hope he gets that knee right.

  8. Don’t like Brisbane but feel that Cam Rayner has showed significant improvement this year. If he continues improvement could be SC relevant.

  9. A super risky midprice forward pick would be Ziebell if he can get himself right. Averaging 48 including injury affected 0, 19 and 20 scores. Says it all really. Lowest average in last 7 years is 84 with four years of 90plus average.

    1. > would be a no-brainer if he gets dual player status

This is what makes me think he won’t. I hope I’m wrong, but I reckon they’ll give it to injury-prone players like Fyfe, because it makes the decision on whether or not to pick them that much harder.

  10. Next year, its G&G set and forget in the ruck. Locked in for me. Experimented with few things but happy to have a normal SC back.

    1. With Kreuzer having just retired, he definitely needs to be on people’s radars. He’s the long-term future of the Blues’ ruck division; we’ll have to wait and see whether or not next year is the year he takes the number one spot, but he doesn’t look too far off – I wouldn’t be at all surprised if one more pre-season is all it takes for him.

  11. Hi all,
2nd year of Supercoach, 1st year ranked 31k, this year 1564 currently. 1st post as I feel I’m still learning so much from this site in particular and have little to add to this experienced group.
I have heaps of notes and do’s and dont’s.
So from a newbie perspective the one thing that has really hurt me both years is not picking the right Uber Premo’s at the start and losing too many points early, then not being able to get them in. Next year planning to lock in Lloyd, Neale, Macrae, Oliver, Titch, Gawn & Grundy, then build a team from there.

  12. Reckon I can start a team consisting of:
    Lloyd, Laird, Docherty
    Neale, Macrae, Oliver, Cripps
    Gawn, Grundy
    Marshall, Dunkley, Heeney
And fill the rest with various rookies, but I’m not sure if I’ll end up paying up for the really expensive players in 2021.
